Oh Em Gee! Today is my birthday!

Woah. Time flies. I'm officially 33 already today. I don't remember what I did when I was 22 wtf. Yesterday night went to dinner to celebrate because one of my colleague has the same birthday as me but he's a year younger. Never in my live had I known someone that has the same birthday as mine. My youngest nephew nearly has the same birthday as mine because my sister then told me that the expected labour date was 17th August 2011 but she told me it's always a week earlier based on past performance. Yupe, she's right about that.

We went to Restoran Greenview in Section 19 Petaling Jaya to have dinner after work. I brought the Glenmorangie Astar that I got from Glenmorangie Malaysia to celebrate this with. This is a very good Scotch Whisky from Glenmorangie even my boss agreed on. Too bad, it's limited production so even if you have the money, you might not be able to find one.

Ordered their Four Season Dishes, which is very nice and fresh ingredients were used. But it's a bit too pricey. This cost us RM130. Gulp. Should have asked for the price before we order =P

Greenview is famous for it's Fresh Udang Galah noodle (生虾生面). We ordered one with four big fresh prawns. We gave it a two thumbs up. Saw on the wall there are pictures of Lin Dan and his wife Xie XingFang ate here before with the Chinese badminton team. This cost us RM170.

Need to have some vegetables to balance up the meal. The captain recommended stir-fried young lotus root, pine nuts, celery and mu er. Quite refreshing.

Continued with pork ribs and half of a roasted duck. The pork ribs is nice but the roasted duck is meh.

Sorry for the blur picture. I must have too much Astar already when I took this picture. Honey glazed squid. Crunchy and the sweet taste is just right. Very good dish to go with whisky or beer.

Had very good time chatting with colleagues after work and not talk about work. Oh, do you know that Hyuna also wished me Happy Birthday. You don't believe? Watch the video below.

I swore to you that I heard her sang, "Oopa Simon Seow". Okaylah. Shiok sendiri.

How young was I then in this old picture? Can't remember lol. By the way, this is my last year birthday post, 2010, 2009, and 2008.

Happy Birthday! To me!

Roasted Pigeon (烧乳鸽) at Shui Wah Restaurant 萃華酒家, Shatin, Hong Kong

The night after my cousin sister's wedding lunch buffet, my uncle decided to treat us (my cousins and another uncle and aunt) for dinner in Shatin (沙田). Shatin is famous for roasted pigeon (烧乳鸽) and chicken porridge. This is my first time coming to Shatin.

I was going on a shopping trip with two of my cousin sisters and my aunt in Tsim Sha Tsui. Elaine, my Hong Kong cousin decided that since there were 5 of us (we later joined up with my uncle), it's more worth it to take a taxi to Shatin instead of taking the MTR . True enough, taking the taxi we saved up a lot of walking time and it only cost us about HKD$100.

There are a lot of restaurants in Shatin that also sells roasted pigeon. My uncle chose to eat in Shui Wah Restaurant. One need to trust the local for their choice, also I am not familiar with Shatin.

Each of us get one roasted pigeon. The skin is very crispy and the meat is tender. Albeit there is not much meat and that's why the marination was absorbed thoroughly making the meat very tasty.

Lotus pancake is one dish that we don't normally order in Malaysia. I think not many restaurants in Malaysia has this dish too. Lotus root cut into slices and then dip into egg white batter and fried. Crispy at the outer and soft inside.

Next dish is prawn cooked two ways. One is stir-fried with mixed vegetable and another way is deep fried. The stir-fried uses prawns that are big and succulent and very fresh too. Timing is just right and not over cooked. The restaurant provided prawn paste sauce for us to dip the prawn. It taste a bit like our belacan.

The tofu is smooth and nice to balance off the heavy tasting dishes that we had.

Of course, need to have some greens to balance the meal.

8 prosperity duck (八宝鸭), the version here is a bit different from the one I ate in Sek Yuen. For one the version here uses more expensive ingredients for the stuffing like fish maw and abalone slices.

Claypot glass noodle.

Steamed pork with prawn paste.

My aunt order a single portion of chicken porridge for us to have a taste. Smooth, sweet (from the chicken meat and bones) and tender.

Last but not least, complementary dessert of taofufa (豆腐花). Which I was informed is house made by the restaurant chef.

If you don't want to take the taxi you can opt to take the MTR Tai Wai station. Shui Wah Restaurant is just opposite the station.

Lan Fong Yuen 蘭芳園, Tsim Sha Tsui

I am staying at a guest house in Chungking Mansion, yesterday I woke up quite late and it's almost lunch time. So, my plan to go Central for Sang Kee's porridge has to be put off because I will be going to Disneyland later in the day so I don't want to travel so far for lunch. Just as I was walking towards the MTR station, some lady handed me a leaflet saying Lan Fong Yuen just opened in Woodhouse, Chungking Mansion. Yes, it's just at the basement next to the place I am staying.

The wall in this branch is decorated with Alan Tam's autographed LP album covers and posters.

Craving for some nice Hong Kong milk tea, off I went into the basement of Woodhouse. I can see a lot of eateries were newly opened. There's Jika Udon which is I can see before I found Lan Fong Yuen which is at the end and at the corner. I've been to the Lan Fong Yuen in Central. This is third branch. So, business must be brisk for them.

The lunch crowd started coming once it's 12 p.m.

Tempted to order "G dum dao low ting" but I wanted to try some other food from here, so I ordered their set lunch that cost HKD$42 that comes with a daily soup and drink. The main, I chose stir-fried fat beef slices with enoki mushroom.

The fat beef is very nice and tender. A very appetizing meal. The only thing I don't quite fancy is that the gravy is a bit too starchy.

Daily soup

I of course ordered Hong Kong hot milk tea for drink. Some might not like that milk tea here but the milk tea here is just what I like. It's not too milk-ish nor too strong of tea taste. The balance is just right.

The place is packed during lunch hour

Now we don't have to cross over to Central to get Lan Fong Yuen, there's one in Tsim Sha Tsui already and it's more comfortable and bigger space than the one in Central. If you are looking for a nice quick lunch and a cup of balance Hong Kong milk tea, this is just the place to come and have a try.

Old School Feng Chun Noodle Stall (逢春面档) in Dengkil

If you work or studying in Cyberjaya, you'll know that Chinese food is hard to come by there, especially Chinese food that has pork in it. Yes, there's Old Town, Pappa Rich and Padi that sells Chinese style food but it's not cheap. So, the nearest option for those working in Cyberjaya is to drive to Dengkil to search for affordable Chinese meal with pork.

My colleague and I found this very old school noodle stall that is operating in a makeshift stall in a house. It's just two shops away from Dengkil Ng Seafood Restaurant. What I like about this stall is that the food here has a very homey feel to it.

Even though I say that it's a noodle stall, they also sells rice dishes there like fried rice. Their special fried rice, which is home style fried rice with chicken curry. Man, it's so delicious.

Another thing I like about this stall is that they sells so many different variety of noodle dish here that every time I come here I'll be able to try a different style of noodle dish. Their pork noodle is very different from the pork noodle out there that I tried before. The soup base is not very overwhelming. I love their mui choy (preserved vegetable) minced pork.

They also have wanton mee. Besides the normal char siew (Chinese BBQ Pork) they also throw in my the mui choy minced pork that I like.

One of the noodle dish that I haven't got to try is their herbal noodle. My colleague told me it tasted like bah kut teh noodle. From the look and smell of it, it's really very appetizing.

Of course, this stall is quite well known with their Hakka mee. I must say, it's one of the best Hakka mee I ever tasted. The taste is simple and the ingredients put in matched nicely with the noodle making it not too dry nor too wet. Satisfying. Of course, maybe it's because of the mui choy minced pork that they put in :p

I ordered pork noodle again one day and they told me that they are out of pork. So they substituted with char siew and wanton instead lol. Interesting combination though.

Sometime they will have specialty like vinegar pork trotters. I ordered it to go with my fried rice. So yummy. The vinegar is just nice not too sourish. It feels just like home cook food.

There are still Cantonese Fried Noodle, Hokkien Fried Noodle, Fish Ball Noodle, Yee Mee, Mushroom Chicken Leg Noodle, Fried Loh See Fun, Loh Mee, Mun Fan (gravy rice), Yellow Wine Chicken, Curry Chicken Noodle and Dumpling Noodle that I haven't try yet.

It opens from morning till 3pm and closed on Sunday. The night time is operated by another stall, which I think is okay only.

Don't be fooled by this picture. It's taken around 2.30pm. During peak hour it's packed.

Joe's Indian Curry Fish Head, Kepong Baru

Joe's Indian Curry Fish Head, it is actually a stall selling economy rice in the afternoon but it will takes special order of their curry fish head, Indian style. It's been in the business for 30 years, which I patroned since I was just in primary. Why? It's because Uncle Joe as I called him since 10 year old, rented a stall in my parents then kopitiam in Kepong Baru. Most of my lunch then is eating very nice dishes prepared by Auntie Joe for their economy rice. Once a week, my dad will order a curry fish head from Uncle Joe and I get to enjoy this Indian curry fish head that is quite different from a typical Chinese made curry fish head which has overload of santan (coconut milk).

Recently, their daughter-in-law expanded the business by doing business till dinner time too and renovated the zinc shop to be brighter. There's also a logo now to marked their famous Indian Curry Fish head at their shop's signboard. So, a few days ago I brought my colleague and her girlfriend to have dinner here. It's a surprise that they haven't heard of this eatery before even though they both stayed in Kepong Baru for quite long already.

Nicole recommended Red Snapper fish head for the curry that night, sour vegetable and fried chicken wings. Only three dishes? Well, the fish head is not your small portion claypot type of curry fish head.

I know the presentation might not look good but the important thing is that it taste good. The fried chicken wings is done just right, crispy and yet the meat is still juicy. My colleague and his girlfriend say that the taste here feel like home cooking. I concurred.

The sour vegetable is very appetizing. Not too sourish and has a tinge of spiciness from the dried chilis. There are also the chicken legs, it's not complete without those legs.

The main attraction is of course the Indian curry fish head. Usually, I like to take Mackerel as Uncle Joe always make his curry fish head with Mackerel. Since Nicole told us that the Red Snapper is very fresh, so we took her heeds.

Ah, the curry fish head loaded with condiments like ladyfingers, eggplants and dried bean curds. The aroma from the curry is what makes Uncle Joe's Indian curry fish head so good. It's their own blend of curry. It also has a bit of sourish taste just to make you feel more appetizing when eating fish. Only a bit of santan (coconut milk) is used so that it will not over power the fish. Nicole told me she planned to changed to fresh milk later for those health conscious customers.

Evidence of how much I love the curry fish head. Too bad my colleague and her girlfriend doesn't know that fabulous taste and texture of the fish lips, fish eyes and fish brain.

The picture really doesn't do justice to the dishes. I only have my Nokia E7 with me at that time. So sorry for the picture quality. Remember to order their Pandan leafs infused water too cool down after a hot meal. It's so refreshing.

Not to worry if fish is not your cup of tea because there are a lot of other dishes that is very good here. Pork lovers will love their home cook feel pork dishes like:

Pickled Vegetable with Pork Belly (梅菜扣肉)

Yam with Pork Belly (芋头扣肉)

Hakka Fried Meat (客家炸肉)

Vinegar Pork Trotters (猪脚醋)

A must try if you love lamb. Australian Lamb Shoulder in Thick Dry Curry.

These are just some of their dishes. New dishes are added almost every month. Check out Joe's Indian Curry Fish Head Facebook Page for more dishes from their menu. If you stay near Kepong Baru or happend to be in the vicinity, do dropped by for a meal of home cooked like meal.

China Town Seng Kee, Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur

For those frequent clubbers, the name Seng Kee should be very familiar to them. Well this is one of the popular supper hangout for after clubbers. A few weeks ago went to this haunt for supper with my cousins and aunt.

This place is famous for the siew yoke mee (roasted pork noodle) and claypot loh shee fun. So, these were the dishes we had that night.

The yong tao fu is nothing to shout about here, I found it quite oily too. Next time don't order yong tao fu.

Ah, one of my favourite dish here is the stir-fried pork fallopian tube (生肠). Yes, it is often mistaken as pork intestine but no, this only can be found in a female pork. I like the springy texture and the loads of dried shrimp to flavour it. It will be perfect if there are more bird eye chili.

Next up, claypot loh shee fun. I found that the quality of this dish is not as what it used to be. Sigh.

My cousin's bf actually wanted to eat at Fatty, the stall next to Seng Kee but there's no seats available there, so he tapaoed this stir-fried roasted pork from Fatty. Marvelous.

Last but not least is of course the stir-fried roasted pork noodle. I found that the roasted pork from Fatty is much nicer. Next time, we'll just go to Fatty instead.

Turn left into Jalan Sultan from the junction after Nando's if you are coming from Jalan Pudu. Go straight, passing a right turning. Further down on your right you'll find Fatty's stall first then Seng Kee. The HQ of Nam Heong Hainanese Chicken Rice is also here.
