The Flying Pan, Central District, Hong Kong

After the battle of the dim sum in Lin Heung Tea House, we walked up hill to the SOHO area in Central District to get some western breakfast in one of Elaine's favourite joint for all day breakfast. The Flying Pan, which serves 24 hours All Day Breakfast. Cool right, even midnight you'll can have breakfast.

Located in SOHO in one of the historical shop in Central district, it's a real nice and cozy street. Not many cars around.

I think one of their specialties is the way they prepare the eggs in the breakfast, there's like more than 15 ways that you can choose to have your eggs. From the normal scrambled, sunny side up until egg benedict and some exotic names like Eggs Maharaja, Eggs Ala Reine and Eggs Champignon (eggs in red wine?? :p).

The breakfast set starts from HKD 64 onwards, comes with a side of your choice from choices of Spiced Apples, Fresh Fruit, Grilled Tomato, Lyonnaise Potato, Baked Beans, Grits, Graden Salad or Tomato Soup and a small glass of fruit juice. You can choose to upgrade the fruit juice to a bigger size with additional cost.

Elaine recommended Egg Benedict with Grilled Ham set. I chose fresh fruits and grits as the side dishes. Need to detox a bit from the dim sum that we just ate. I chose Grapefruit for the fruit juice. I don't know what is grits at that time, that's why I ordered it. It is actually coarsely ground corn and it's tasteless -_- I should have ask for salt and pepper and put some on it.

True enough, the Eggs Benedict here is good. Nice too to eat with the grilled ham.

On top of the breakfast set, we also asked for streaky bacon. It's pan fried till crispy. Just like what the American will do with their bacons. Nom nom.

I mixed some of the egg yolk from the Eggs Benedict into the grits so that it won't be absolutely tasteless.

I was the one the finished up the grits. I don't like to waste food, you see.

Me, downing the tasteless grits.

I really like the SOHO in Central District, it is fills with nice colonial time architecture that is still quite well maintained and most of it is now used as restaurant, cafe, pub or bistro. You can even find hair saloon in this kind of building.

Shit, I ate too much and got stuck.

And I need Aaron to pull me out T_T

At first, our target is to go eat 九记牛腩 (Kau Kee Beef Brisket) in Gough Street after coming out from Lin Heung. But even Elaine the local here also don't know which direction to go from there. That's why we ended up going to The Flying Pan. As we are walking towards the main road to take the train, we found Gough Street, so happy. But they are close on Sunday and Public Holiday, FML. It's a Sunday.

Ngau Kee is open though. No, we didn't eat there lol.

We went to Kong Chai Kee for fish ball and fried fish skin instead.

Well the fish balls here are not too bad but nothing to shout about.

I still say that the fried fish skin in Lok Yuen is the best I had yet.

We were cheated by the pictures of the Hong Kong celebrities pasted at the front of the shop T_T

We then took the train to Wan Chai and didn't eat anyting until dinner time.

I was tempted to buy the sha yung from Tai Cheong in Wan Chai but alas I was too full.

Best Bits of Project Alpha Season 1

Project Alpha Season 2 will be kicking off soon in 19th April 2010. I followed Project Alpha Season 1 religiously every week waiting for new episodes to be uploaded. That time Project Alpha don't even have their official site yet, the videos were loaded in the sub-site in Nuffnang Malaysia website. Before that let me write about what bits and pieces of what I think is the best from Project Alpha Season 1.

Project Alpha is hosted (and co-produced too, if not mistaken) by the beautiful and talented Jojo Struys. She's very friendly in person, so don't be shy shy if you bump into her. ;)

First off, I love the FourFeetNine Episode 3 where Audrey went to workout in the gym, in which she's much prefers walking for hours in the shopping mall rather than running 5 minutes on the treadmill. It's funny to see how she struggle on the treadmill lol. In case you don't know her bf Timothy jogs everyday but recently I'm not too sure :p

To recap all FourFeetNine episodes go to Project Alpha website.

Second is because one of the featured blogger is my taukeh soh (Nicole Kiss) during Project Trafford. Her episodes came up after Audrey's. She talked about her life as a traveling blogger and of course show the pictures and video that she's taken during her traveling. In episode 7, you can see her playing with an orang-utan.

Coincidentally, in Project Alpha Season 2 there will also be scenes withe the featured bloggers with animals in Lost World of Tambun. It's especially funny to see Cheesie's holey tights being nom by a goat. Can't wait to see the Project Alpha version of this scene.

Third is to find out interesting bloggers that I've haven't known before I watch Project Alpha Season 1 such as Beautiful Nara and Budiey. I was later able to meet both of them in person in different ocasions lol. I think most of it is in Nuffnang's event.

There's just too much to write about Project Alpha Season 1. There's like about 50 episodes all together. So, if you want to warm up before Project Alpha Season 2 begins, go now and watch all the episodes here.

Last but not least, my favourite bits of Project Alpha Season 1 is of course the weekly blogging contest that's giving nice prizes such as Adidas deodorant, facial care, Sunway Lagoon passess and much much more. Why it's my favourite? Because I won consolation prize for week 4 on the post about Beautiful Nara and won 1st prize for week 7 on the post about Huai Bin. I now have like a two years supply of Adidas New Action 3 deodorants and Adidas facial products.

There's a lot of exciting prizes ready to be won too in Project Alpha Season 2. Kicking off is the Instant Cash Blogging contest, the prize is hard cold cash pumped into your Nuffnang account once you've done. Terms & Conditions applied. :p

Project Alpha Season 2 is presented by Adidas Action 3 and supported by P1 and MAS.

Lin Heung Tea House (蓮香樓), Central District, Hong Kong

Exactly a week after my visit for a food hunt in Central District, Hong Kong. My cousin Elaine, my friend Aaron and I went to yum cha in Lin Heung Tea House (蓮香樓). This place is like the must visit place for dim sum for foodies. I read in each of the food blog I went to, if the blogger had been to Hong Kong, sure enough you'll find one or two post about Lin Heung Tea House.

Yes. I'm a tourist.

So, what's the fuzz about this place that everyone that come to Hong Kong must drop by to eat the dim sum? Well, for one this place has been here even before World War II. It's one of the few tea house that's still serve very traditional dim sum that's hard to find else where in Hong Kong.

We reached quite late, which is almost noon. A lot of the dim sum is finished. Well, I just came to have an experience, not to eat all the dim sum here lol. I should have taken KampungBoyCityGal's advise seriously when they wrote in their post that this place is a war zone. Yes, here you go hunt for your dim sum that you want, you don't wait for the dim sum to come to you or you'll face with disappointment. Because I was too slow I didn't manage to get one of the dim sum that I wanted. I think it's goose feet or something, can't remember :p

Elaine and Aaron just sat there and watches me battle my way to get the dim sum. So bad lah them. Elaine's a local, she can be better in the battle than I am T_T Well, here's a few of the dim sum I managed to battle it out from the crazy crowd.

Steamed bean curd with chicken and fish maw. Yummy.

Siu Mai

Pork Stomach siu mai. This is a very traditional dim sum. Hard to find else where.

Steamed Pork Ribs

Lotus Paste Bun

The lotus paste here is very different from the lotus paste in Malaysia. It's very smooth and yet not too sweet. My kind of taste ;) There's even salty egg yolk in the lotus paste bun. Reminds me of Mid Autumn Festival lol.

Alas, when I go to hunt for the goose feet, the last one was already taken. You'll have to bring the dim sum card to the waitress that's pushing the trolley to stamp when you took dim sum from her. Other modern tea house, the waitress will come to you and you choose the dim sum and they will stamp the card that's on your table.

The staff stamping the dim sum card for a customer.

Aaron that just sat there and wait for the dim sum while I went into the battle field.

My cousin Elaine. At least she helped me to get the lotus paste bun lol.

Overall the dim sum here is quite good. The best thing is that you can still find those very traditional dim sum that most other restaurant don't make anymore. The bad thing is that you'll have to be furious to battle it out with other customers to get your dim sum. It's quite an exciting experience but I don't think I'll come here again if I visit Hong Kong again lol.
