Restoran Famous Seremban Favourites, Aman Suria

Warning: Tidak Ditanggung Halal

Three weeks ago WMW suddenly messaged me in MSN out of boredom. In the middle of the conversation, she ask want to go makan some time? Then I replied that I haven't get to try the char siew in Famous Seremban Restaurant before and so we set the date and wait at Oldtown Kopitiam in Aman Suria first because I don't know exactly where is Famous Seremban. Need WMW to show me the exact location.

So, last Friday morning, I started driving from my place at 10.30 am. Aman Suria is only 20 minutes drive if there's no traffic congestion. I have to bloody made a wrong turn and ended up in PLUS highway which wasted me 30 minutes. Le Sigh. So, I was 30 minutes late, no excuses there, brunch will be on me.

The Famous Famous Seremban Restaurant.

I've been reading a lot of good reviews in the food blogs that I read. This is the first time I come here. WMW is a VIP regular here. No, I didn't exaggerate, the staffs there recognized her and she always get additional freebies. More about that later.

Bill the owner is Married But Available a Master of Business Administration (MBA) holder.

The sinful char siew (BBQ Pork) that I came here for.

My lean cut char siew

I ordered "pun fei sau" (50% fat 50% lean meat) but it turn out to be like 20% fat and 80% lean meat. Still, it didn't disappoint at all. It's tender and juicy even with so less fat. For ladies who want to eat lean and tender char siew, this is the place to come. The char siew is very flavourful even without dipping the char siew sauce. The char siew sauce comes separately so that customer have a choice whether to eat with or without it. WMW's cut is more accurate to the "pun fei sau" ratio, she let me tried a piece and I'm in heaven. The char siew literally melts in my mouth. The best char siew I've ever tasted in my life. Normally I don't like char siew because the one that I've eaten it's either over burned or very dry. The char siew here is different. I will surely come back for more char siew.

Rating: 4.5/5

Hakka Mee

Of course, in Famous Seremban it is not only char siew one can have. To go with the char siew, one can op for your normal oil rice or hakka mee. That day I opted for hakka mee. I comes with just minced pork and a bit of soup. Simple but nice. The minced pork just nicely complimenting the hakka mee. I like that the minced pork is diced so finely which goes very well with the thin hakka mee. One of the nicest hakka me I ever had.

Rating: 3.5/5

WMW ordered plain dry loh shu fun (needle vermicelli) to goes with her char siew tao (the edge of a char siew)

Fried dumpling.

We also ordered fried dumpling. The texture of the fried skin is al dente, crunchy yet not oily. The fillings also taste great but if there's more fillings this dumpling will be perfect.

Rating: 3.5/5

Pork balls and fish balls.

The staff there called the owner Bill and told him that WMW brought a friend to the restaurant and we got two freebies. A bowl of pork & fish balls and a bowl of pork wanton. The fish ball is very fresh and doesn't have preservatives added. The pork ball also not bad but still lack the texture of a perfect pork ball that I have in mind.

Rating: 3.5/5

Wanton in soup.

The wanton is just normal, I've tasted better wanton. Maybe it's very hard to get good wanton in Malaysia, no wanton I tasted in Malaysia match the one I tasted in Hong Kong.

Rating: 3/5

The variety of food available in Famous Seremban.

So, the rave reviews that I read is right, the char siew here is really good. The hakka mee and fried dumpling also not bad. Will I come back again? Of course, better to come with WMW too, can get freebies lol.

It's better to come before 12 p.m. to avoid the crowd and so that you can select the best cut of char siew. ;)

Time Out KL: On The Up November

I went to another Time Out KL event last week. I was late to the venue because I went to Pecha Kucha first in KLCC first. More about that later.

I arrived at No Black Tie at about 10.30 pm hence I missed An Honest Mistake's performance. Read from Yatz that they're not bad. David, Hsu Jen, Nigel, Aaron, Joshua, Celine, Fuzz, Dillon, Sue, Dahlia, Josephine were there too. Kelli was there to show me where the guys were sitting.

The Bassment Syndicate was already playing half way when I took my seat. Lucky there's still a table left because the whole place is packed. These group basically consist of two bassists and a drummer. There's no vocal here just pure instrument. Their music is somewhat more toward Jazz. It's the kind of music I'll listen to when I want to relax. While there's two bassists, one is playing high bass 4 strings and another is low bass with five strings. While jazz is not for everyone, I sure find their music quite to my liking. It has the calm soothing effect.

The Bassment Syndicate

After a short break, it was Alaling & the Kaya Kok's turn to perform. She's one of the reason I detour all the way from KLCC to catch this event. As usual, Alaling sang with her sweet and soothing voice. After singing her usual hit single First Time, this time she sang a new song that she named Facebook Song. Talk about catching up with the fad.

Alaling + The Kaya Kok

They also made a MV for the Facebook song.

After that, it's the last but not least Rendra Zawawi. He's the favourite of the audience because he literally rock the house. His band also consist of a violin and a saxophone on top of the guitars and drum.

Rendra and his band

The Sex Sax player

The violinist.

When we thought that that is the end for the night, Rendra gave us the audience a surprise. He asked our very homegrown Youtube artiste, Kokokaina who happens to be in the house to sing to us one of her well known song. She is indeed very good. She has a strong voice for such a petite person.

Kokokaina doing her stuff.

Then we end the night, which is midnight. Now who says we don't have local talent. There's so many independent talented singer out there in Malaysia that need our support. So look out for the next Time Out KL: On the Up and come to give our local singer some support.

Nikonian Nose Bleeding Swimsuit Photography Class

Three weeks ago Andrew invited me to go and look see look see in one of his Nikonian Swimsuit Photography that he is conducting in Dynasty Hotel. This of course is one opportunity that I won't miss because there will be models wearing bikini that will make one's nose bleed for the students to practice.

The photography class will be conducted at the roof top swimming pool of Dynasty Hotel. Which is 29th floor.

The venue where every student will start to nose bleed practice their photography skill.

I can see the house that I used to live in when I was young from 29th floor. That is Sentul by the way.

After Sean arrived with the mini-compo and the CDs, and we're good to start the class. He compiled some very groovy music for this class.

Most students bring some pretty expensive lens that even the trainers envy lol.

Okay, okay. I'll keep my long story short. Here's the picture of the three girls in bikini. They're models from SGX Faces, a modeling agency that Nikonian Academy works with. The models also model clothes for Cocorich.com the online boutique.

This is the teaser. No nose bled yet.

Participants working hard not to bleed from the nose to capture the best angle.

The participants were too shy, so Andrew demonstrated how to get closer to get a good shot.

Shots that I took with my puny Canon Powershot A470, click here to see some of the photos that the participants took in other classes:

The Prologue

Er...remote flash?

Is it getting hot here or is it just me?

Jeslyn looking at me very seductively.

"You really don't want to takes off your clothes, Simon?", says Jeslyn.

"Sorry, I have to go to Cineleisure to catch Quantum of Solace later", answered me.

"Oh come on, you watch James Bond anytime. It's not everyday that you can be with 3 hot girls in bikini."

"I'll do whatever pose you want, if you stay"

"Sorry but I made a promise to go", I answered very reluctantly.

"You won't stay even if I'm all wet?"

"Oops, look at the time. Catch you girls later, gotta make a move. Ciao."

So, did I regretted of taking off so early? Not really because I know that there will be another session that I can always go. LOL.

For all the photos that I took that day, click the album below or you can take some swimsuit photograph using your own DSLR just by signing up for a one day class. More details here.

Italiannies, The Gardens, Mid Valley City

The first time I ate in Italiannies was when they first open in 1 Utama. Back then a friend and I ordered a stuffed mushroom, a soup and a plate of angel hair pasta in tomato sauce. It was a mistake because only when the pasta arrived that we know that the portion can feed more than four people. Hence you'll see motto inscripted in the wall of an Italiannies restaurant like the one below:

Last Saturday, I was invited by Nuffnang and Italiannies to get to taste first hand some of the item in their new menu. One of the special introduction is the Bowls of Pasta. From 10 different pasta, one can choose 4 pasta, each pasta will comes in a small bowl. The 4 bowls is nice portion to be shared between two people but if you're big eater like me, I can finish all 4 bowls. So now, one can enjoy 4 different variety of pasta with just Rm 29.90 ++.

Okay. Back to the food tasting session. The other bloggers that were there too are Ringo, Cynthia, Cindy, Iza, and of course Yee Hou. This is the second time I come to the outlet in The Gardens. The first time was just 3 days back during Nuffnang 3rd Sharing Session. Usually, I'll go to the outlet in the Curve or 1 Utama. I think this outlet is the newest outlet in Klang Valley.

House baked breads, and balsimic vinegar in olive oil.

As usual in Italiannies, I will start of by whacking the complimentary breads which will be eaten not with butter but with the aromatic balsimic vinegar and olive oil. The first time I ate bread this way is in Italiannies.

My fresh watermelon juice. It's freshly made.

While waiting for food. By the way, the table is made of solid wood.

First, we were served appetizers. Californian Shrimp Salad and Quottro Platter.

The Californian Shrimp Salad is a very refreshing salad because it not only comes with vegetable like baby spinach and romaine lettuce but also have mangoes, oranges and tomatoes. Orange vinaigrette is the dressing used. I especially like the the seasoned grilled shrimp which is so springy when I bite into it. It's like the shrimp is dancing in my mouth. Mixing the cream cheese with the fruit and vegetable also create a new kind of taste. Kind of like a new age salad moving away from the traditional Caesar's Salad or Nicoise Salad.

Rating: 3.75/5

Californian Shrimp Salad

The Quottro Platter is a combination of deep-fried risotto balls, calamari, stuffed mushrooms and zucchini fritte. Comes with marinara sauce and alfredo dressing for dipping so that you don't have to ask for ketchup. This is the first time I heard of risotto balls. Pop one into my mouth, and wow, creamy cheese just squish out from the center of the risotto ball. For added flavour, dip it in the marinara sauce and you'll get cheesy inside out. The calamari is fried with the right amount of batter which is not too thick and of course it's crispy. Al dente. Everyone's favourite, especially Yee Hou is the zucchini fritte, thinly sliced zucchini and then fried. The taste is like onion ring but sweeter.

Rating: 4/5

One of the mains that day is Italiannies Lamb Shank, which is also my favourite. Braised lamb shank with a medley of herbs, red peppers and tomatoes. Served with garlic mashed potatoes and brown sauce. The lamb shank is cooked right until it is tender yet juicy. One don't have to use a lot of strentgh to cut through the meat. I can easily deboned it using the knife provided. It was marinated nicely that I eat it without even dipping any of the brown sauce. The mashed potatoes is very finely mashed and it tasted so good that I clean out the plate. I leave no mercy as I finished the tomatoes and red pepper too. First time that I ate red pepper that is so sweet and soft.

Rating: 4.75/5

Itallianies Lamb Shank

The stars of the day, 10 stars to be exact are the Bowls of Pasta. Normally, you can only choose 4 out of these 10 pasta, which consist of:

Clams & Beef Bacon
Beef bacon strips sautéed with fresh clams, onions & clam broth. Served over fettuccine.

Chili Shrimp
Lightly sautéed shrimp with dried chillies and garlic over linguine.

Classic Carbonara
Fettuccine pasta tossed in light parmesan cream sauce with smoked beef bacon and fresh button mushrooms.

Shrimp Linguine
Linguine pasta with sautéed shrimp and served with our marinara sauce.

Angel Hair Pomodoro
Angel hair pasta with chopped red tomatoes and sautéed with garlic in a light tomato basil sauce.

Salmon & Lemon Aioli
Baked salmon flakes tossed with chilled lemon aioli mayonaise and baby spinach over shell pasta.

Chicken Coronation
Grilled chicken tossed with sliced apples, raisins and mayonaise with chilled shell pasta.

Chicken & Mushroom
Shiitake mushrooms sautéed with chili chicken tossed with cherry tomatoes & rocket lettuce. Served with spaghetti.

Chicken Lasagna
Layers of lasagna pasta, creamy cheese sauce, marinara sauce with melted mozzarella cheese and baked until golden brown.

Fussili Pesto and Mushrooms
Pan-seared shiitake mushrooms served over chilled fussili basil pesto pasta.

Clockwise from the top: Chicken Lasagna, Classic Carbonara, Chili Shrimp, and Angel Hair Pomodoro.

Choosing some favourites among the 10 pastas is really kind of hard because the pastas were all cook al dente. Not too soggy nor too hard. So, it all comes down to taste and preferences. Ladies might prefer the chill pasta such as Salmon & Lemon Aioli and the fruity Chicken Coronation.

My own favourite is of course the Chili Shrimp with the ever so springy shrimp and linguine is cooked in a simple yet flavourful way. Angel Hair Pomodoro is another favourite of mine, the aroma of the garlic and light tomato basil sauce is just so nice and combines very well with the angel hair pasta.

Top: Salmon & Lemon Aioli, Bottom: Clams & Beef Bacon fettucine.

For those who like cheese and cream will probably opt for Chicken Lasagna, Fussili Pesto and Mushroom (there's Parmesan cheese sprinkled on it) or the Classic Carbonara. So, it will be kind of hard to rate it pasta by pasta. So, overall:

Rating: 4/5

Last but not least, is the dessert. We had Italiannies Chocolate & Hazelnut Cake. Rich, moist chocolate cake with hazelnut served sprinkled with sugar icing, which is my first time to taste it. The chocolate is rich and dense, there's no doubt about it. Hazelnuts crunch in between. If not for the softer texture, I would have thought that I was eating hazelnut chocolate. Such a good way to end our meal.

Rating: 3.5/5

Italiannies Ambassadors?

Yes, I had lunch with these four leng luis.

Thanks again to Nuffnang and ChasWood Resources Sdn Bhd (the company that owns TGIF, Italiannies and surprise, surprise, Teh Tarik Place) for inviting me and my friend to this wonderful tasting session.
