ONCE UPON A TIME -皇宫灿烂 CASTS AUTOGRAPH SESSION

Last Saturday I went to Sutera Gemilang Auto in Shah Alam, one of the Hyundai 3S Center which was selected out of 12 outlets to host "ONCE UPON A TIME -皇宫灿烂 CASTS AUTOGRAPH SESSION". While waiting for the cast to arrive, I was able to go and see what is a Hyundai 3S Center is all about.

Sorry, Jack Lim is not included in your package.

So, what does 3S stands for? A 3S CENTRE consists of SALES, SERVICE AND SPARE PARTS. A pit-stop for Hyundai &Inokom car lovers to service and purchase their Hyundai cars.Claim insurance & windscreen can be done in their service center.

Imagine, if you go to a normal workshop. The mechanic found that you have a faulty master brake pump and it needs to be change with a new one. The mechanic called the spare parts dealer and the part needs 2 or 3 hours to be delivered. You got no where to go and have to stuck in the workshop for 2 to 3 hours waiting for the spare part and another 2 hour for the brake pump to be installed. Half a day gone.

If the same case happens in a 3S Centre, then you only have to wait 2 hours for the installation because spare parts are easily available. Unless it's something too complicated then the 3S Center will order for you. Heck, you might even save on the overcharge of spare parts by a normal workshop.

While waiting for your Hyundai to be serviced, relax at the Customer Lounge.

Have a cup of White Coffee, which is free while watching your Hyundai being serviced by the professionals.

Too boring? No sweat. Go try out some of the latest Hyundai models. It's a showroom too after all.

Sorry, Gan Mei Yan 顏微恩 not included when you buy a Hyundai Sonata.

While there was still a bit of time before the cast appear. I went for a lucky dip in the magic cubic cube. Won myself a Hyundai 2013 Desktop Calendar.

Finally some of the casts from the movie "ONCE UPON A TIME -皇宫灿烂" has arrived to meet the fans. The casts were led by lead actor and producer Jack Lim 林德荣, Gan Mei Yan 顏微恩, Jeff 陈浩然, 曾洁钰, 颜江瀚 and the director Silver Yee.

ONCE UPON A TIME -皇宫灿烂 is a local Chinese New Year movie produced by Jack Lim, which he is also the lead actor. It's been kind of his tradition now to come up with CNY movie every year ever since the first one, 大日子 Tiger Woohoo. Coming soon to cinema on 7th Feb 2013. Most likely the first CNY movie I will watch because I got the tickets for the special screening on 4th Feb 2012.

Fans gets to play game with the casts and win some prizes.

Jack Lim 林德荣, Jeff 陈浩然, and 曾洁钰 sings the movie theme song (风霜) live.

Your Friendly Neighbourbood Cockroach-man

If I were given a chance, I would want to get the power of cockroach. Yuck, some of you might say but I have reasons to choose cockroach.

Firstly, cockroach has strong exoskeleton that if it was in human size, it might withstand a hit with a force of thousands of Newton Meter. Which means I can take a lot of hit form Sandman, Lizard, and whatever strong villain.

Cockroach can survive the harshest environment there is and study reported cockroach can with stand a high amount of radioactive exposure and still live. If I was to be captured and was thrown in a deserted island or a faraway dessert, I can survive without food or water for a very long time. I can even eat inorganic materials such as newspaper, sand and whatnot to keep alive. Survivability is the key in being a hero.

With the power of a cockroach, I can easily slip through small openings or cracks and surprise the villain. Think Tooms from The X-files. Climbing up wall or ceiling is not a problem.

Given time, I will be able to grow wings and be a flying cockroach-man. Who needs web to swing when you can fly? Really Spidey, I heard you'll be swinging by this 3rd of July. Want to see who's faster?

Well, there's only one thing I need to improve on.

My costume! I might need to redesign it. In the mean time, this has to work. No matter how I look, I'm still your friendly neighbourhood Cockroach-man. Peace!

MyReview: Marvel's The Avengers

Thanks to Nuffnang I got to watch Marvel's The Avengers yesterday night, a day before the official premiere in Malaysia.

Don't plan to write too much here to spoil the movie for you.

I think it's quite balance on how each heroes get to show their stuff.

I love the battle scenes. A lot of mixed battles. Heroes versus Heroes. Heroes versus Villain. Strong versus Strong. Strong versus Weak. Weak versus Strong. Funny thing is I didn't see Villain versus Villain.

If you think Tony Stark is funny, wait till you see Dr. Bruce Banner and his alter ego The Hulk. If he's not funnier then he is a match for Tony Stark.

As in any Marvel movie, stay back after the title credits but don't have to stay back after the ending credits. I'll watch it again in IMAX 3D. Hopefully I will be able to purchase a ticket.

Rating: 5/5

Marvel’s The Avengers

I am Matter Maestro. The latest member of The Avengers. I joined after Spider-man decided to restart his whole life again to when he haven't become Spider-man. Oh, good that he finally realized that his web doesn't comes out from under his skin.

Okay. Let's get back to The Avengers. Being a new kid on the block, surely the other members will have doubt about my ability. Especially the arrogant Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man and the more than 90 year old but still look like he's in his 20s' Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America. "So, what kind of power you got that made you qualified to join The Avengers, My-ass what?", asked Tony while sniggering.

"Well, Tony. Basically I'm not a genius or a playboy or a billionaire but I do contribute monthly to World Vision. Jokes aside. You can say that I am the master of mass in their atomic form. I can change my mass property into solid, liquid or gas form.", I replied.

"I can solidify my mass until it is as strong as Adamantium. Even bullet made with diamond can't go through me when I solidified myself. I might be the only one that can take on Wolverine's claws with my bare hand when I'm solidified. I think your armour won't stand a chance if I punch you with my solidified knuckle.", I continued with Dr. Bruce Banner looking at me with a face of curiosity.

I can also turn myself in to liquid form. In this form any attacks on me will be a waste because it will only goes through. I can drown someone by covering his or her face with my hand. I can also slip through any piping or hide inside watery surrounding for infiltration and escaping.

Last but not least I can turn into gas form which will be barely visible or easily detectable because I've mixed with the air. Most important of all, I can traveled into Loki's hideout through the ventilation and spy on his secrets. Once I got to know the weakness of his armies and sabotage his mind control. We, The Avengers will stand a greater chance to win this war and save the world.

By the way, I can modified any inorganic thing's form too. So really, your amour is useless when facing me. Come, come. We have a movie to catch this April 27th and I might be able to watch it a day earlier.

Super Bad Experience Watching Movie at GSC 1 Utama

I'm not sure about you but from my past experience, I always had some of my movie going experience spoiled by bad projection or bad sound. So often than not it happens in GSC 1 Utama. Okay, having technical glitch is one thing but having the projection going way out and the audiences themselves have to notify the staff there to tell them there's a problem with the picture after waiting for 10 or 15 minutes means one thing. The projectionist must be doing something else rather than making sure that the movie is projected correctly or the sound is okay after he push the start button.

Take just now for example. I went to watch Viral Factor in GSC 1 Utama on 21st Jan 2012, 9pm at hall 11. I was quite excited to watch this movie that was shot mostly in Malaysia. When the film starts, the ratio of the picture doesn't match the screen at all. It's like it's using 4:3 rather than the 16:9 ratio. Then there's the sound having some distortion that is very irritating and the volume from dialogue and sound effect in the movie was damn low. We, the audiences had to endured this bad quality projection for about 15 minutes, until some of the audiences couldn't take it anymore and walked out to complain. Then only a few minutes later the picture ratio was corrected and a few more minutes later the sound was corrected.

What I don't understand was, why we the audience need to wait 10 to 15 minutes and go make a complain only then the technical glitch is taken care of? What is the projectionist doing? I hope he/she is not sleeping on the job.

Viral Factor is quite nice by the way but please watch it somewhere else if you don't want a bad experience like me. I also bought ticket for I Love Hong Kong 2012 for 12.30 am show at hall 6. Ratio and sound was okay but there's a big vertical line covering the top of the picture. I didn't wait for 10 minutes this time, after 1 or 2 minutes into the movie, I walked out and complained to the staff. They then tried to fixed it. They stopped the movie, do something, then played again but the vertical black line was still there. The frustrating thing is that the movie is continued to be played, so we all missed out portions of the story not to mention watching the movie with the black vertical line. After 15 minutes and it's still not fixed yet. I couldn't take it anymore. I walked out straight to the box office and asked for a refund. The box office staff asked why. I told him technical glitch and I missed like 10 minutes of the story. He gave me the RM12 I paid and I left 1 Utama.

This is what I get when I pay good money to support original film? Luckily I don't watch movie at GSC 1 Utama that often. TGV Kepong is still the best lol. Please, GSC Cinemas ask your projectionists not to sleep on the job. Thank you very much.

那些年,我們一起追的女孩 You Are The Apple Of My Eye

I watched 那些年,我們一起追的女孩 (You Are The Apple Of My Eye) on Wednesday. I thought it's already screening for a few weeks, then only I knew that the premiere date is on 10th November 2011. The screening I watched is a sneak preview session. The movie is based on the novel by the current popular author 九把刀 Giddens. The book which is actually based on the real life story of the author himself when he was in high school, college and then working life.

The film kind of reminds me of Ice Kacang Puppy Love by Ah Niu. The difference is that it's based on high school and college life in Taiwan and the jokes in the movie is kind of 18SX (like masturbating in the class) hence the rating for Malaysian screening is 18PL. Sorry for those of you that is not 18 and above yet.

The jokes are very original and funny and the way the director (Giddens) placed the camera is very captive. There are some scenes in the nature and street of Taiwan that just too beautiful to describe with words.

The acting of the casts doesn't seems like acting at all because they were so natural. Especially the lead actor and actress. 28 year old 陈妍希 Michelle Chen gave a very good performance of portraying 17 year old 沈佳宜 (the love interest of Giddens when he was in high school). She was nominated for the Best Leading Actress in 第48届金马奖 the 48th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. Hope she wins, I love her performance in this movie. She's now very popular now after this movie broke Taiwan local blockbuster with a sales of NT$110 million and still going.

New comer 柯震东 Chen-Tung, Ko also did very well in his portrayal of the younger Giddens. He was nominated for Best New Performer in 第48届金马奖 the 48th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards.

Apparently the fans found the picture of the real 沈佳宜 . No wonder Giddens fell in love with her when they were young.

The real 沈佳宜本人.

This movie is funny and touching. There's love, family and most important of all, friendship. It also makes me so absorb into the movie that I laugh and almost cried with the characters. There were also a few scenes the the audiences in the cinema clapped, one very rare thing to see in Malaysian cinema. Nice to know that Giddens was nominated for Best New Director and the movie theme song "那些年" was nominated for Best Original Film Song.

陈妍希成为新的宅男女神 Michelle Chen has now become the newest Otaku Goddess in Taiwan.

This movie is a must watch of fans of Giddens of course. Those that was born in the 70s and 80s. Can understand Mandarin. Even if you can't understand Mandarin, you can read the subtitle. Basically it's a movie that everyone will have a feeling for. So, if you are over 18 year old, then make your way to the cinema and watch it. Under 18, then wait for the DVD to comes out :P

Rating: 10/10

P.S. Remember to stay until the credits end for a secret scene. It's worth the wait.

P.P.S. I nearly teared when I saw "好 在一起". T_T You'll know what I mean when you watch this movie.

P.P.P.S. I will go and watch this movie for a second time, who wants to join me?

Blackie and I in Samurai Showdown

When I was still in high school, there was this fighting arcade game called Samurai Showdown that I used to play. In there, there was a character named Galford D. Weller. He's an American Ninja. He's fighting style is of course using Ninjistsu, something like Naruto, the can fake being hit and turn into a piece of wood. On top of using his Ninjistsu, he also has a pet Siberian Husky named Poppy that will charge towards enemy when he calls out "Go! Poppy".

Gerald and Poppy

That time I always imagined myself as the character and has a pet dog that will charge towards enemy at my command. I will go on an adventure of traveling around the world challenging different samurais and ninjas and my pet dog, let's call him Blackie, will fight by my side and do straight charge, teleport on top of enemy, and create illusions of myself to confuse the enemy. So cool right to have a pet dog that can do Ninjitsu.

Well, of course that was just my day dreaming. In reality, Blackie don't even know how to play fetch. All he knows is 'sit', 'hand', and 'down'. He is one strong dog though and like to jump at people that he likes. But I did teach him to do Wing Chun once :p

Doing Wing Chun wtf

Speaking of adventure. There will be one adventure that I wouldn't miss next month. That will be The Adventures of Tintin in 3D which will be premiering on 10th November 2011. It's one of my all time favourite comic made into movie. I watched the trailer in cinema, and this freaking good.

If you are fan of Tintin, then you shouldn't miss the opportunity to win some cool merchandise from United International Pictures Malaysia (UIP).

Horrible Bosses

This is Nick (Jason Bateman ) with his psycho boss Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey) whom is making his work life very stressful. He was lectured and forced to drink whiskey during work time when he was only late for 2 minutes to work by his boss.

Dave Harken making fun of Nick in the office.

Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) is a hard working account manager in a chemical factory. He has a very nice boss but not his boss' son Bobby Pellit (Colin Farrell) whom is only into partying and drugs. Bobby has plan to sell off the company and cash out.

Bobby showing Kurt who's the boss.

Dental Assistant, Dale (Charlie Day) is engaged and love his fiance very much but he is constantly sexually harassed by his dentist boss Dr. Julia Harris (Jennifer Aniston) (I don't mind being harassed by her)

Dr. Julia Harris sexually harassing her assistant in a day's work.

The three are good friends and the could not that the shit from their horrible bosses anymore. So, one night they have this idea of killing their bosses to make their work life much better.

They engaged the help of Motherfucker Jones (Jamie Foxx) to kill their three bosses. Their murdering plan didn't turn out quite of what they expected, which is filled with funny scenes. How it will end?

Personally, I love this movie. There's not much cliche in the jokes or humourous scene. Some of the jokes are quite original. The beginning might be a bit slow pace while showing how the bosses tortured the three hapless employees. Things starts to move quicker after that.

This is one funny non-cliche comedy that I've long been waiting for. Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell did a great job in portraying the horrible bosses. The three main characters did good too. Oh, remember to watch the bloopers after the end of the movie. There's a punch line in the blooper that is funnier than the movie lol.

Rating: 9/10

Horrible Bosses will be showing in Malaysian cinemas on 11th August 2011.

My Favourite Smurf

Lala lalalala lalalalala. I grew up watching Smurfs. I was 5 or 6 year old then. Smurfs are back and in 3D in the cinema.

This time the gang in blue will ventured out from their world and goes to Big Apple (New York if you are not familiar with the nickname of US cities :p). Actually The Smurfs got lost in New York and are trying to find their way back to Smurf Village.

My favourite Smurf is Brainy Smurf.

Of course, Brainy Smurf will come up with his so call plan which the other smurfs won't listen to. The only plan they will follow is Papa Smurf's plan. He asked Gutsy Smurf to find a map with the help of Brainy. Smurfete will then interpret the map because she's actually beauty with a brain. Of course, Clumsy will accidentally destroy the map.

Fear not, Brainy tells the others. "I've just learn that we can get a map from this piece of hardware." It's a GPS device. From his long research of the world map, Brainy remembers the coordinates of Smurf Village. He entered it to the GPS Navigation device and off the go. Of course, it is not smooth and easy during their journey back home but in the end, they made it safely back to Smurf Village.

The Smurfs

Alright, The Smurfs will be showing in Malaysia cinemas on 1st September. In the past, I only see Smurfs in 2D but now I can see how they'll be like in 3D. Come on all you 80s' babies out there, it's time to relive your childhood. Lala lalalala lalalalala.

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night

Dylan Dog is a private investigator just like any other P.I. handling jobs like missing pets, catching the wife/husband cheating on the spouse and etc. He however was not doing this normal P.I. stuff in the past. He is the appointed investigator to handle business for the undead. Yes, you read that right, undead like vampires, werewolves and zombies. Something happened in the past that made him stayed out of the business of the undead.

Not until a mysterious murder happened and that the murdered victim's daughter hire Dylan to investigate the murder. At first Dylan is not going to take the case but something happened and he takes on the case. He have to fight off vampires, werewolves and do business with zombies.

That was my summary of the plot, don't want to give too much and spoil the movie for you. Dylan Dog (Brandon Routh of Superman Returns). I didn't watch Superman Returns so not sure about his performance in that movie but he's kind of "kayu" in this movie. He does make some sarcastic joke but he just lack the charisma like Brandon Fraser.

The client, Elizabeth (Anita Briem). Well, she's okay. Just okay.

Dylan uses some ancient tools to investigate case of the undead.

What good does a hero P.I. do without a sidekick comic relief. Dylan's sidekick Gabriel (Peter Stormare whom also starred in Superman Returns as Jimmy Olsen) gave this movie a good boost. Without him, this movie might be quite boring.

The vampire showing his true form. Hmm..reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Some of the actions sequence are quite nice but I was dissapointed by the final boss fight. It's just like that. Yupe, I was thinking,"Just like that?" Ah, well, if you miss those good old P.I. movie with the narrations done by the lead himself, like Dick Tracy. Then this movie help to give you a fix of craving for those P.I. movie.

Rating: 6/10

Watch the trailer of Dylan Dog: Dead of Night in HD. Opens in Malaysian cinemas on 9th June 2011.

MyView: X-Men: First Class

It's been a while now that I haven't write a movie review. Yesterday I watched X-Men: First Class when it officially premiere in Malaysia's cinemas. Just couldn't hold myself to wait any longer after reading such rave review from Eyeris or should I say after reading his not a review post on X-Men: First Class.

Eric and Charles with their new recruits

True enough. It's a great X-Men movie. The previous 3 should have been done this way. Yes, it's better than the previous 3 X-Men movies even without Wolverine in it, well he (Hugh Jackman) did make a cameo appearance.

Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) is quite funny. Eric Lenhsherr aka Magneto is cool but quite a sad character. So, there's this group of mutant villains led by Sebastion Shaw which is portrayed very good by the ever cool Kevin Bacon. Although there are no Storm and Night Stalker here but two of the villains working for Shaw has the power similar to Storm (Riptide) and Night Stalker (Azazel). Their parents? The partner in crime with Shaw is non other than Emma Frost (January Jones).

You gotta love Charles Xavier

Charles Xavier worked with his friend Eric with the help of the CIA covert operation unit starts to recruit mutants out there. Alex Summers (Havoc), Angel (I prefer if it's renamed Fairy), Banshee, and Darwin joined as new recruits. While Henry McCoy (Beast) and Raven (Mystique) were already with the CIA and Charles.

Not gonna spoiled the plot here for you all. This X-Men movie is by far the best and I think there will be a sequel. Of course, the original X-Men yellow uniform is still the best. I came out from the cinema craving for more X-Men movie of this kind. Hopefully there will really be sequel. Well done Matthew Vaughn.

Rating: 9.5/10

Deducted 0.5 because I don't like what they did with Angel.
