Osteria RealBlue, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur

Two weeks ago, Sheryl SMSed me to meet up for an early dinner. She set the venue at Osteria RealBlue in Solaris Dutamas. It's nice little Italian restaurant run by husband and wife team. The husband came from Bologna, Italy, while the wife I think is Malaysian because she is able to chat with us in Cantonese although not to fluent.

The parking here in Dutamas Solaris is like a maze. I always got lost and couldn't find the parking near the block I wanted to go, especially if it's Block A.

The interior is like a cozy little restaurant in the an Italy country side. No lavish decoration here. The lady boss came to take our orders herself. She's very helpful in explaining each and every dish that we asked about in the menu. After our orders were taken, a complimentary bruschetta was served.

As with any other Italian restaurant, complimentary breads are given with balsamic vinegar and olive oil as the dipping. But in RealBlue, there's one more dipping that made of anchovies and chili was given as well. Lady boss told us that this is because in Southern Italy, the people like stronger taste. The red chili and anchovies paste tasted a bit like Chinese bean paste that we see in those Shanghai cuisine restaurant but less salty.

I'm a soup person. If there's opportunity I will always order soup. So, I ordered mushroom soup. The mushroom soup here is less creamy and uses a vegetable based stock. It's celery if not mistaken as Sheryl doesn't like celery.

Another appetizer, we had Beef Carppacio. Which is raw beef in olive oil. Parmesan cheese is sprinkled on the raw beef and olive oil. Rockets was used for garnishing. I will have to say, it taste great. The beef is fresh and tender. There's no gamey taste at all that might be found in beef.

Sheryl having problem choosing between lasagna and ravioli for the main. Since I wanted to try ravioli, so I tell her to order lasagna instead. We can try both dishes.

The pasta here is made in the restaurant and not order from a supplier. Lady boss told us that the pesto sauce is freshly make only when there's order for our Spinach Cheese Ravioli. The ravioli is cooked al dente. Not too soft nor too hard to bite into. Love the cheese inside the ravioli.

You can see your food being prepared through the windows to the kitchen from outside the restaurant.

The lasagna here is very different from what I tried before. The pastry is thinner and the cream cheese is not too jelak. Lady boss told us that the cream cheese is only prepared if there's order.

As for dessert, we shared one Tiramisu. We chose the non-alcoholic version because Sheryl cannot take alcohol. It's creamy. It's more of a mousse type. Dig deep, and we can taste the coffee.

We've been told that the regular customers like the T-Bone steak and pork ribs. Also, the pork is imported from Italy. I'll keep that in mind and come to try it next time. Reservation is recommended on weekend, if not, be like us, come at 6.30 pm :p

The dinner cost us about RM140, so it's about RM70 per person. I think it's quite worth it for an authentic tasting Italian cuisine.

Valentine's Set from California Pizza Kitchen, Fahrenheit88, Kuala Lumpur

First off, I have to tell everyone that California Pizza Kitchen didn't close down if you can't find it in KLCC anymore. It has shifted to Level 2 of Fahrenheit88 (formerly known as KL Plaza) in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. CPK told me that KLCC want to change concept so did not renew their leased on the lot taken by CPK. Good news is that more outlets is being planned to open around Klang Valley.

Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day is coming soon. While there's no CNY set menu from CPK but from February 1st to the 17th there will be ‘Triple-L Celebration: Longevity, Love & Luck’ dine-in promotions. Diners spending RM30 or more will stand a chance to win up cash and dining vouchers up to RM388 in the restaurant’s Sure Win Festive Draw!

Lucky for those of you that celebrate Valentine's Day, CPK came out with a customized set menu just for Valentine's Day from the period of 12th Feb - 14th Feb 2011. Its set menu for two, which includes a choice of one half-size salad, one pizza, one pasta and two mocktails or sparkling wine at the special price of RM88++. This sweet deal saves diners up to 25% from normal price if order the items à la carte.

I was lucky enough to taste the dishes that is offered in the set menu. For the salads, there is a choice of Thai Crunch Salad or Caesar's Salad.

The Thai Crunch Salad has a more Asian influence with shredded napa cabbage, edamame, crispy wanton, grilled chicken breast, julienne cucumbers, peanuts, cilantro, julienne carrots, red cabbage and green onions tossed with a lime-cilantro dressing. Topped with crispy rice sticks and authentic Thai peanut dressing. This is the second time I had this and still loving it. There's option to add avocado to it. If you like gado-gado, you will love this salad.

Thai Crunch Salad

This is the first time I tasted CPK's Caesar's Salad. The grilled chicken breast is optional top up but they are very generous to add it for us. I found their Caesar's Salad dressing is a bit different from other I've tasted before. CPK's dressing is not too sourish. I found it to be very pleasant eaten the Casesar's Salad here.

Caesar's Salad

For pasta, one will have a choice of either the Kung Po Spaghetti, optional of chicken or shrimp or both lol. I tasted a bean paste in the sauce. A very nice fusion of the East and the West. I prefer it to be a little bit more spicier. A very appetizing pasta.

Kung Po Spaghetti

Or if you prefer the more traditional Spaghetti Bolognaise. The spaghetti is cooked al dente. For those that like tomato, this is the choice of pasta he/she should choose. Generous amount of minced beef that make sure each strand of spaghetti can be eaten with the minced beef.

Spaghetti Bolognaise

The Sausage & Pepper Penne is not my favourite because I have a weird feeling of sausage in pasta lol. It's just a personal taste really, nothing to do with the taste of this dish. The taste is actually not too bad. If you like sausage then go for this by all mean.

For pizza, the is a choice of The Original BBQ Chicken that comes with Barbecue sauce, smoked Gouda and Mozzarella cheeses, BBQ Chicken, sliced red onions and cilantro. The BBQ sauce is really good and goes well with the BBQ Chicken. The cheese just made it tastier. A must order if you like BBQ sauce.

Or one of CPK bestseller. The Peking Duck Pizza. Another fusion that make the pizza not so pizza lol. Low fat cheese is used, so ladies don't worry about the diet. It will be better if the crispy thingy were put at the side instead of on the pizza. More spring onion will be good. It's my personal taste. Some people might like it the other way around. I like the taste of the sauce when eaten with the shitake (Japanese mushrooms) on the pizza. I even tapaoed one whole Peking Duck Pizza home. There's extra. :p

Peking Duck Pizza

My favourite pizza is of course the Pesto Chicken Pizza. Basil always goes very well with pizza. Grilled chicken breast marinated in a basil pesto sauce with mild onions, Mozzarella cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto sauce and toasted pine nuts. Topped with fresh basil. I'm craving for it again as I am writing this. I can just smell the nice aroma from the fresh basil and basil pesto sauce.

Pesto Chicken pizza

A meal in California Pizza Kitchen won't be complete without eating their dessert like the Red Velvet Cake or Chocolate Souffle Cake. Red Velvet cake is actually dragon fruit mixed with chocolate hence the taste is a bit chocolaty. Natural colour of the dragon fruit is used to get the red.

Red Velvet Cake

Those that like chocolate will probably fell in love with their Chocolate Souffle Cake. Rich in chocolate and top with optional vanilla ice-cream it's a dessert to die for. Coming here for the dessert alone is worth a try.

Herbal Mutton Soup and Parma Ham Pizza, Hola Cafeteria, Simei, Singapore

On the next day. I went to Hola Cafeteria that is near Simei MRT Station for brunch with my brother-in-law, my mum and my niece and nephew. We were suppose to go to Tampinese Shopping Mall but all the parking is full.

So there we are in Hola Cafeteria. I tried the chicken rice here before two years ago, which is not too bad. There are some new stalls here that I didn't see before two years ago. Then this Chinese word "羊肉汤" caught my attention. It means mutton soup actually.

So, I ordered a bowl of SGD $5 Mixed Mutton Soup.

The soup taste a bit like bah kut teh soup from KL. The mutton is very tender. For those that like mutton will love this.

Rating: 3.5/5

Mixed Mutton Soup (SGD $5)

A bowl of mutton soup is not enough for me. I tried googling using my mobile phone and found out that way inside the coffee shop there's an Itallian food stall called Il Piccolo Pizzeria. I went to look for it and ordered a Parma Ham Pizza (SGD $9). Where else can u find parma ham in a local coffee shop?

Parma Ham Pizza (SGD $9)

Thinly sliced parma ham laid on top of a slice of aubergine lay over a 7 inch pizza dough and baked in the oven. A very simple pizza yet quite satisfying. The only complain is that more cheese can be better and the crust can be thinner. Greedy me.

Rating: 3.75/5

Such a pleasant surprise there to find a mutton soup stall and a pizzeria in this neighbourhood local coffee shop. Oh well, at least now I don't have to go far for Italian food from my sister's place.

Of Miss World Malaysia & Pasta de Gohan, Sunway Pyramid

Simon Says: Help vote for me on the Slurpeelicious contest. Click here then look for my picture and click vote! Oh, after you voted, check your e-mail because you'll be asked to verify your vote by clicking a auto generated link. Thanks.

Early this month, I went to Sunway Pyramid to support Bangsar Babe in the final of Miss World Malaysia 2009, she's one of the finalist. I reached there about 7 p.m. but the final only starts at 8 p.m. Since there's still time and my stomach is growling, so I went to Pasta de Gohan for dinner. (For guy that is not interested about food can scroll down for picture of the Miss World Malaysia 2009 :p)

I've been wanted to try Pasta de Gohan for a long time but alas, Sunway Pyramid is a place that I rarely step foot in unless there's any event there. This month and last month, I already went there 4 times for events like I.M. Magazine Launch, Miss World Malaysia 2009 Grand Finale, Digi D'Ultimate Birthday Bash and the most recent XPAX XBerry Party. Since, I am already here and there's enough cash in the wallet, so I won't miss this chance to try Pasta de Gohan, if not I won't know when I'll be coming to Sunway Pyramid again.

True to the name, they serve a lot of different style of pasta here. I am here to try their 和風
(wafu (Japanese)) style pasta. Started off with a Japanese clam chowder soup. One word can decribe this soup. SALTY! Even Campbell Soup will taste better than this. FAIL!

Rating: 1/5

For the pasta, I ordered 海胆 (uni) Sea Urchin Spaghetti in wafu sauce. I have to give credit that the pasta is cooked al dente, not to soggy and not to hard, just the right texture and springiness. I think a specially mixed soya sauce was used as the pasta sauce. Too bad the amount of sea urchin that was given is too little to mention here, well sea urchin is quite expensive stuff. They are only charging RM 30 plus (sorry I forgot the exact amount), so you can't expect a lot of sea urchin. This pasta is good for those that like sea urchin but for those that can't stand the special taste of sea urchin won't like it at all. I found that using sea urchin in a pasta is not a good idea at all. I still prefer to eat it in the form of sushi, sashimi or even uni tofu.

Rating: 3/5

Ah, this is quite a disappointment for my first time in Pasta de Gohan. It makes me wonder to come back again or not. Even though there are still a lot of different pasta that I haven't try yet, there's still the alternative Pasta Zanmai that got my thumbs up. Talking about that, it may be a time for me to revisit Pasta Zanmai, anyone want to join me? :p

Okay, after filling up my stomach it's time for the show. It says to start at 8pm but the real time it starts is 9pm -_-

The invited guest will be serve with food from Sakae Sushi.

Asha Gill is one of the co-host that night for the finale.

The show opens with Soo Wincci doing a song from her debut EP. For those of you that don't read The Star, she's the winner of Miss World Malaysia 2008. While she's singing, a batch of finalists already getting ready near the stairs to the stage with their sports wear by Schwarzenbach.

The finalist getting ready to start. Sports wear is the first item.

And very quickly they changed into swimsuit. They were like running back to the backstage to change after the sports wear, that is what I meant very quickly.

Next up, is a more traditional taste. Baju Kebaya. 1Malaysia mah. I starting to think that this theme maybe a bit overuse as in what Jeff Ooi has written in this post, this post, and this post.

Bangsar Babe looking stunningly in her Baju Kebaya.

Her fellow contestant-mate.

Some touching up before going back on stage again.

They did a bit of catwalk with oil umbrella and Peranakan stlyed basket while wearing Baju Kebaya.

After that, the girls get to get some rest because it is time for the performance by the children of some orphanage and their instructors. They did a few nice songs, I only able to recognize You Raise Me Up.

Oh, the very confidence girl that was shown in the audition were invited to sing a Celine Dion's My Heart Will Goes On that she sang during the audition.

This is her cut of the auditioning:

Well, even if you don't make into the finals of Miss World Malaysia 2009, you are very suitable in the showbiz, because you sure got guts singing in front of so many people. I would have pee in my pants to be on stage. Salute.

It's time for the final dress, evening gown.

Bangsar Babe in her evening gown.

This also means it's time to announce the winner of the sub-category titles and the top 10 finalists that can go the Q&A round.

Hey, I see Miss Popular there.

As all of us expected, Bangsar Babe won the Miss Popular title. As expected of a blogger. She also made it to the top 10 finalists.

Sue Lynn walking down after doing her Q&A session.

I saw Soo Wincci wearing her crown and getting ready for her last performance that night.

The crowd outside started to noticed her and ask for picture with her. I joined in the fun as well lol.

While waiting for the result to be calculated. Asha Gill and her co-host went around to interview the family member of the top 10 finalists.

The youngest audience and supporter of that night.

I later went up to first floor to join the colleagues and friends of Sue Lynn.

Soo Wincci singing, while the finalists waiting nervously for the results to be calculated.

The results: *drum roll*

Second Runner-up goes to Christy Yeoh

Stefanie Chua got first runner-up and Thanuja was crown Miss World Malaysia 2009.

Later the organizer called Sue Lynn and told her that she's the 3rd Runner-up wtf. Well, it's a very good experience.

Me and Miss Popular.
