Simon Says: MDG2 Beautilicious Contest Result

Sorry for the delay of announcing the winner of Simon Says: MDG2 Beautilicious Contest. I've been quite busy kekeke.

Here are the entrees I received. No many but still thanks for entering the contest.

Jess: I love Beautilicious cosmetics product because they are really value for money.

Diese: I love Beautilicious cosmetics product because I want to discover the magic of beauty within my yummilicious lips and prettilicious face.

Clare Ng: I love Beautilicious cosmetics product because they are perfect for all occasions, portable and affordable. A must-have for all ladies!

Jan-e: I love Beautilicious cosmetics product because it creates a more beautiful me and it's the men who have to know about beautiful women instead of otherwise.

Jessica Cheang: I love Beautilicious cosmetics product because they have a very nice packaging.

Mayz: I love Beautilicious cosmetics product because it makes me look like a million bucks but costing only a very minor fraction of the million dollar price!

I've sent them to Jerad so that he can forward it to Julie, CEO of Beautilicious to be the judge. The best completed sentences that she picked is Clare Ng's. *clapping*

Which reminded me that I haven't have time to go to the post office to send the prizes to Clare. She's from Sarawak by the way. Maybe I'll just fly over to Kuching since air ticket and Tune Hotel's fare is so cheap now. Oh, the top 12 of MDG2 has been chosen. I won't tell who got in. Catch the premiere on 28th of Feb here. While waiting, read all about the Closed Auditions here.

Pepper Lunch, Pavilion KL

Simon Says: This is something similar to what I'll be going to do for the next 20 days or so. For mine, MY FM is the organizer.

After having teh halia and paru goreng for tea, I headed down to Pavilion KL from 1 Utama. I am meeting Nigel in Pepper Lunch for dinner because he'll be helping me to shoot my Rihanna impersonation video that night.

The first time I tried Pepper Lunch was in Singapore early last year because at that time there's no outlet in Malaysia yet. As Jeroen commented in the post, they are opening in KL soon. Yes, he's right. They opened their first Malaysian outlet in Pavilion KL, which don't surprise me. Seeing food chains from Singapore opening all their first outlet there such as Food Republic, Ministry of Food, Dainti Hill and etc.

The outlet here in Pavilion KL is bigger than the outlet I went to in Singapore. Yes, we got the luxury of space here, so don't envy us Singaporean. LOL. Just kidding. Ahem. Let's get back to the main topic.

Well, one thing I don't envy being a Malaysian is that our spending power is low comparing to our friends from across the Causeway. While it cost only SGD 9.90 for a Weekday Lunch Star Deal set of Pepper Steak that comes with rice and a soda, it cost RM 30.80 for a Pepper Steak and rice here in Malaysia. You have to top up RM 2.50 for a soup or a soda. Even if converted back to Malaysian Ringgit, it's still cheaper to eat in Singapore. If one is earning Sing Dollar then it's even more affordable. Sigh.

The ordering is the same here. Place your order at the counter, you'll be given a number to place on your table, and then they will serve your order. This time I ordered Hamburger Steak with Fried Egg (RM 21.80).

Instruction of how to cook your Pepper Lunch.

Spread the butter evenly on the Hamburger.

Instead of the normal garlic or honey sauce, I was advised by the staff there to pour the French Onion sauce. I call it that because it tasted damn like French Onion soup, only thicker and saltier.

Pouring my sauce after the needed done-ness is reached.

Taste wise, it's not too bad but it still can't beat Pepper Steak that I had in Singapore. Didn't know what hamburger can go so well with rice. It must be the sauce. It's quite fulfilling too with the fried egg, bean sprout and corn as the side. Wish that they will come out for set lunch that is much more affordable. If not, I think they won't last very long in Malaysia.

Rating: 3.2/5

Down it with rice not fries.

Even though it's not what I was expecting as the one that I've eaten in Singapore but with the eating with a company of fun loving friends more than cover the flaw. Thanks David, Hsu Jen, Kel Li, and Nigel for helping me making the Rihanna video.

I'm In The MY FM Life Size Card Board Carrier Contest

That is what I perceived the contest should be named lol. The real contest name is "MY FM Brand's 白兰氏鸡精飞天遁地阳光帮". From 19th Feb 2009 onwards to 15th March 2009, I'll have to carry the life size card board of MY FM 101.8 FM's DJ Jack Lim (林德荣), Mei Yan (颜薇恩), and Nicholas (翁书尉) from the morning show every I go and take picture of the card board and me in it at each place. The purpose is to create publicity so from my guess the places with more people and the more people that I took the picture with will earn me more points. This contest is limited to 1,000 contestants. The top 10 finalist will get RM 1,000 each and the winner will get RM 15,000.

So, that fine Thursday morning on the 19th of Feb, despite it's a non-working day for me, I get my ass up and reached Sg. Wang Plaza to sign the contestant form and collect the life size card board.

I'll be carrying one of those until 15th of March.

I heard some of them took leave just for this.

Registration is quite fast as the queue is not long. Maybe it's still early. I gave the Brand's staff two Brand's bottle caps to join the lucky draw which will be held at the end of the launch. About 10 a.m. Already they gave me a Japanese clay tea cup by giving those two bottle caps.

Me and the life size card board.

The MY FM DJs were on the stage entertaining the contestants there while doing a live broadcast.

At about 9.30 a.m., it's time for the swearing in ceremony for the contestants led by Ah Beng (the alter ego of DJ Jack Lim). At first he read the testimonial of marriage, then the swearing of organized triad and only the third time is the real deal. Funny man.

Ah Beng leading the swear.

After that we all yum sheng with a bottle of Brand's Chicken Essence. My 2nd bottle that day. Then it's lucky draw time. 5 winner will be draw. Each will go home with RM 100 worth of Brand's hamper and RM 50 cash. The last and fifth draw was done by the GM of Cerebos Malaysia. He announced the name,"Seow Ying Suen". Sounds familiar. Only when DJ Mei Yan corrected the pronounciation to "Seow Ying Yuen" and also read out my Chinese name that I am sure that I was the winner. Woot! Not a bad start.

After all that, most of the contestants went their own way. While some stayed back to take this opportunity to take picture with the DJs.

With DJ Mei Yan (颜薇恩), she's holding her own head lol.

DJ Nicholas (翁书尉) same surname as Ong Tee Keat (MCA's President)

DJ Jack Lim (林德荣), he had a role in Jack Neo (梁智强)'s Ah Long Pte Ltd (老师嫁老大) and also the latest movie Love Matters (幸福万岁).

I start to think where to go after that and since I'll pass by Nuffnang's office, so I stop over there to enlist help. Surprise, surprise. Boss Ming and Hui Wen were there too. Robb said,"Things people do for money", after he opened the door for me. I'm doing it just for the fun of it lol. Thanks to the Nuffnang team for the support. I'll buy the whole Nuffnang team dinner if I win the RM 15,000 grand prize.

I then went to Mid Valley and had lunch with Jess in Kim Gary. I chose Kim Gary because I thought there will be a lot of MY FM listener eating there and I will get spotted. Non-contestant also can participate by spotting the contestant with the card board. Take a picture of the contestant and card board or the card board only. But make sure to ask the full name of the contestant. In my case, "Seow Ying Yuen". Then upload the picture here. Listen to MY FM for the queue to call. Call in and if you get through, you'll win RM 100 cash.

One of the busiest entrance in Mid Valley Megamall.

I even brought them with me to the toilet in the Gardens.

They were there too when I was having my facial treatment in MTM Skincare.

With the staff of MTM Skincare at the Gardens.

When I was about to get my car, I got a call from my colleague that I am being activated for standby that night because one of my colleague called in sick. Well, since I don't have plan yet of where to bring the the DJs so might as well go for the standby and earn extra money. It's a difficult time currently. I was working morning just yesterday and being call in to work night today. Hope I don't fell asleep while on duty.

Last but not least.

My lucky draw goodies. RM 50 real hard cash, a nice tumbler and 2 dozens bottle of Brand's Chicken Essence in big and small sizes. Just in time for my night shift standby activation.

The Blood Banks Needs You!

Blood banks in Malaysia have always been in need of blood donors for it has insufficient blood in the bank. According to Deputy Director of the National Blood Centre Dr Faraizah Abdul Karim, during festive season in 2002, there were only around 450 units of blood available in the centre which has the capacity to hold up to 5,000 units. The minimum requirement for Klang Valley alone is between 1,200 to 1,500 units of blood. To cater for this demand, the National Blood Centre actually requires about 300 blood donors daily. Statistics shown a very low percentage of donors donating blood every year.
Your blood may not only save the lives of your loved ones but other people who are loved. Drop by to our college and donate your blood now. The community needs your aid.

Paru Goreng at Teh Tarik Place, 1 Utama

Simon Says: I foresee a 5th By-election is coming. Elizabeth Wong might resign as the State Assemblywoman for Bukit Lanjan. When long will all this By-election shit stop?

Walking around 1 Utama and I have a sudden pang for a glass of teh halia and light snacks. There it was, Teh Tarik Place in a quiet and cosy corner near the entrance to Rain Forest the same floor as Kluang Station which is doing quite a brisk business despite their mediocre food. Opposite 港士港啡 which is quite contrast, while one is serving Hong Kong style 奶茶, the other is serving teh tarik. You can really find it all in 1 Utama it seems.

After ordering my teh halia, I am looking at the menu thinking of what to eat. Nasi lemak will be to heavy because it's just tea time for me, I still have to go to Pavilion for dinner. Then it caught my eyes. Paru goreng - RM 2. So there I put my order to the waiter. He re-confirmed with me, "Paru goreng saja?". "Ya, paru saja", I replied.

Paru Goreng (I got 4 pieces for RM 2)

Not that crunchy because it's not freshly fried for you. Nevertheless the texture of the cow lung is still there. Also the indescribable nice taste that one find the lung. Those that scurried away on hearing the word lung will not know what they are missing here. I will gladly exchange my glass of teh halia for a glass of cold Hoegaarden White to with the paru goreng.

CNY Dinner at Sek Yuen, Jalan Pudu

Simon Says: Happy Valentine's Day to all of you out there. Since I am single, most probably you'll find me here.

Warning: Tidak Ditanggung Halal.

Just a few days before Chinese New Year. Me and a group of colleagues planned to have our 收工酒 ourselves. I suggested Sek Yuen in Jalan Pudu because I read that it is one of the earliest restaurant in Malaysia to start the lou sang (捞生) tradition. It was started by the Phang Brothers in the 1950s.

Old school.

The table my colleague booked is at the shop next to this one, which is air-conditioned. Free parking is available at the back of the shops which is just next to Pudu LRT station. Greeted me when I went up the shop is my colleague's cute daughter.

Reminds me of Arale-chan from the manga Dr. Slump.

It was almost 9.15 p.m. and still not all the invited is here yet. The staff told us, have to serve the dishes already or else the kitchen will be closed at 10.00 p.m. Wah, so early.

Seldom see this red table cloth already in newer restaurant.

First up is of course the yee sang (鱼生), this is my second yee sang of the year. I like the yee sang here, the raw fish is fresh, the sliced vegetable is crunchy and the best of all is that the sauce here is not overly sourish as in other eateries. It gives just a dash of sourness hence it will not overcome the taste of the other ingredients.

Rating: 4/5

Yee Sang (鱼生)

The roast piglet (烧乳猪) was supposed to be canceled but there's been a mis-communication, so there we have it the roast piglet which cost RM 105, which I don't mind paying. It's so yummy. Skin is roasted to crunchiness and the meat is tender. I almost finish the head too if it's the third dish came a bit later.

Rating: 3.75/5

Roast Piglet (烧乳猪) Oink, oink.

Some of the people in the second table came late hence they waited until all were here to start lou sang. Which, then I have the opportunity to take picture.

For health, career, money, and sex life love life.

The third dish to be on our table is Sek Yuen's famous dish, Pat Poh Ngap (八宝鸭) loosely translate into eight treasures duck. It look like a normal baked duck from the outside but once you cut open the body, you'll find the treasures. Inside it are lin chi (莲子), walnut (核桃) , and other ingredients that I was too busy eating to remember lol.

The meat is tender and soft, the sauce is nice and of course the 'treasures' inside has soaked in the juice from the duck and sauce. Which tasted better than the meat. If this is your first time here, this is a recommended dish to order.

Rating: 4/5

Let the treasures be shown.

Pat Poh Ngap exposed.

Steamed Sek Pan (石斑) is next. Which is quite normal. Not sure whether it is over steamed or what the meat seems to be quite dry and stick to the fish skin very firmly. The fish is very fresh though.

Rating: 3.5/5

Steamed Sek Pan (石斑)

Tiger prawn (老虎虾) is next. I think is stir-fried with garlic and soya sauce. The sauce is tasty and the prawn is quite big and succulent. Love it.

Rating: 3.75/5

Tiger Prawn (老虎虾)

Had to have some green after so many dishes of meat. The Stir-fried Conpoy or dried scallop (江瑶柱) with lai bak (baby bok choy) is just the right dish to be serve. Stir-fried in the sauce that was soaked with the essence of the dried scallop, eating the vege with a bit of dried scallop added and extra omph to the texture and the taste. Slurp.

Rating: 4/5

Stir-fried Conpoy or dried scallop (江瑶柱) with lai bak (baby bok choy)

The best dish of the night. Stewed lamb rack (燉羊腩). Oh my god, the lamb is so tender and juicy. It doesn't have the strong smell and taste of lamb too when eaten due the ginger used to make the sauce. I think 5 aroma powder (五香粉) was used too. This dish to me is the tastiest that night.

Rating: 4.5/5

Stewed lamb rack (燉羊腩)

Last but not least is the stir-fried mixed vegetable (罗汉斋). Vegetable is fresh and it is not overcook. The taste is normal. Funny thing is that there's no dried tofu (豆干) used here, I like to eat dried tofu.

Rating: 3/5

Stir-fried mixed vegetable (罗汉斋)

All in all, the cost of this 8-course meal is RM 600 for 10 pax. Not too bad, quite reasonable. Will surely return for a visit if there's enough people to join the feast.

On the side note. We jokingly told Arale-chan that we will bring her to watch golden fish (金鱼). We didn't expect that there's really a school of golden fish in the aquarium down stair. The thing is that one won't be able to see fishes clearly because the water is so murky. Maybe the owner didn't clean it for weeks already.

MyView: Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans

I was lucky enough to win a pair of tickets from Nuffnang to the premiere of Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans. Found out that Zoe Yve wanted to go too, so I gave her one of the ticket.

Long queue.

I didn't watch Underworld 1 and 2. It doesn't really matter because the 3rd installment is a prequel to 1 and 2. It's about how the Lycans (werewolves) rebel against the Death Dealer (vampires).

The daughter of the King of the Death Dealer were in love with the first Lycan, whom is a slave to the Death Dealer. Don't want to leak out too much of the story here. I like some of the sword fight scene but I think the werewolves are a bit ugly and thin lol. Entertaining movie but don't have to wow effect.

Rating: 3/5

A brief camwhore session taken place after the movie.

Spongebob Family. Zoe Yve and Robb.

I want the Spongebob bag.

Camwhoring with Sisha Sasha. Didn't camwhore with her since Hennessy Artistry.

Nicole was there too with a friend, first time I saw her in a premierre. She treated my McCurly fries. Hahaha. After the movie Sue, Kelvin, Zoe Yve, Yatz, Anne Marie, and gang went to Misai at SS2 for supper.

Zoe Yve showing us her tongue piercing at Misai.

Camwhore again.

Ruumz Lauching at Mist

Simon Says: Anyone seen Victoria and Debra's pet dog Yuki? Inform them if you see Yuki near your place. More details here and here.

After having chili pan mee in Kin Kin and sweating profusely. I brought Zoe Yve to visit Nuffnang office as I've promised her. Then Nicholas say since we're here, why not join the Nuffies to an Ruumz event in Mist, Bangsar later in the evening. Me and Zoe Yve of course accepted the offer. At first I thought Ruumz is a club or something.

We then went to Taman Tayton, Cheras to have duck rice with Sue and Kelvin. Sorry, I forgot the name of the restaurant but they server very nice roast duck.

Rating: 3.75/5

My siew cheong and roast duck rice.

Long time never took picture with Sue.

After the meal, I drove to Bangsar. It's only 6.30 p.m. when I reached there. The event supposed to start at 7 p.m. So, I parked in front of NSTP building while Zoe Yve took her nap because she haven't sleep for 24 hours.

Zoe Yve recharging to prepare for the event.

New Strait Times building

When it's about 7.30 p.m. Zoe Yve woke up and we made our way to Mist. Registered ourselves and got the goodies bag, which in the end we lost it.

Obligatory picture. I'm wearing Crocs to a club wtf.

There's free flow of whisky, wine and beer inside and of course finger food. I ate some of it not too hungry because I had roast duck rice. Not too bad the food.

Then we stop by to ask the pretty Ruumz promoter what is Ruumz all about. Briefly, from what I found out is that Ruumz is like an online portal providing service such as photo printing and music downloading and you pay for the services by buying Ruumz points. If you print photos worth more than RM 35 (about 80 pieces of 4R size picture), they will deliver it to you FOC. Not too bad, I got loads of picture that I need it to be in hard copy.

Zoe Yve listening attentively.

I didn't pay too much attention because I was busy taking pictures.

I saw some familiar faces down stair.

I met many new and old faces that night. I of course camwhored with them.

The most active blogger currently. You see him everywhere. Huai Bin.

Leonard.

I always like to camwhore with Ginny. I see her in almost all the event I went.

Friends of Ginny. That's her hand in the back. -_-

Rachel has been camera shy nowadays.

Mellissa, she called me when I was watching movie from her Nuffnang office lol. She's going back to Melbourne soon. Gonna miss her.

Carol, new nuffy in Nuffnang.

Vernice, Firdy's protege.

Pinky, she's continuing her study in Melbourne. Gonna miss her too. T_T

Robb is straight? Nah.

Nicholas, thanks for inviting.

Timothy has to rush back early.

Pietro, DJ for the night.

Sorry but I was too high to remember the name of these two hot girls.

This one I can remember because she's Nuffnang Feb 2009 featured blogger. Her name is Tzia.

Tock Tock brought his hot colleague Katherine with him. Lucky guy.

Then Pietro start to spin the wheel and most of us went down to the dance floor and dance away.

I like Pietro's music, so retro.

Firdy, Zoe Yve and Robb having fun. Are we sure that Robb is not straight?

Intoxicated look.

Having one with the hot MC of the night. She's tall.

Pleasant surprise to bump into Elaine. Good, I didn't manage to take pic with her during the MDG 2 KL Auditions.

Long time didn't bump into Amanda, so that I night we took quite a few pictures together.

Well, I had fun that night except for a little mishap that happened to Zoe Yve. You can read about it in her post. Will surely print my pictures through Ruumz after I've chosen the picture that I want to be in hard copies.

988 CNY Concert at Bren Mall, Kepong

Simon Says: Just found out from FBB's post that my picture appeared in Kosmo! A popular Malay tabloid. This reminded me that I was featured in KLue Magazine last month.

118 (18th of Jan 2009), that 's the date 988 held their CNY concert singing songs from their CNY album at Bren Mall, Kepong. I got tickets which I found out that one doesn't need it at all. Sigh. I went all the way to their office in Jalan Pahang to get it.

Anyway, I didn't take any video or pictures of them performing. It's nice to listen live. I especially like Danny One singing "12 Astrological Sign", a CNY song that's in R&B style. He sang the song with Desiree Tan, Xin Yi, KK and Luke. Lucky I brought my 988 CNY CD with me because after the concert there's an autograph session. I already got May, Anson and Luke's autograph. So tonight I can complete the collection lol. Almost complete that is, there's still 4 more that I haven't get because Tung Xin can't make it there that night and Jeff, Kien and Jack is now working for 988's new rival Chinese radio station, One FM.

I took pictures of the 988 DJs and singers while queuing for my autograph.

There's more than 10 different autographs I can get here.

Desiree is so camera sensitive that she knows that I am taking picture.

I got a picture with Luke in Studio V at New Year's Eve.

Now that Jack and Kien is in One FM, I wonder what will happen to JNK.

I've taken picture with Xin Yi in the Yeah Awards Dinner last year and picture with DJ Morna recently at Studio V on New Year's Eve.

DJ May and DJ Sam.

I've taken picture with DJ May in the Yeah Award Dinner and DJ Sam in Studio V at New Year's Eve.

DJ Anson and DJ Jiu Yuet (Autumn Moon lol)

I took picture with DJ Anson here.

DJ Jia Yee and DJ KK

I bumped in to KK when I went to the The Forbidden Kingdom press screening.

A lot of people brought their CD with them.

DJ 淑萍. She's also the manager for the DJs.

Second time meeting her and took picture. Ther first time was here.

Many fans still lining up for the autographs when I was about to leave.

I Want To Meet Rihanna

I don't listen to English song much but there are a few hit songs that've been playing over and over again in dance clubs that I went to. There's one song that got a very catchy tune that caught my ears. There will be a verse, like umbrella, la...laa..la. Yes, you've guess it right. It's the song Umbrella sang by Rihanna.

I watched a few live performances from MTV, and I know why Rihanna is so popular. Her voice has so much energy. Seeing her performing live will be a performance I wouldn't miss if ever I have the chance. Oh, there's a chance now alright. Unless you've been to camping in the forest with no Internet or daily newspaper or TV, Rihanna will be holding her "Good Girl Gone Bad Tour" and RIHANNA LIVE IN KL 2009 will be scheduled for February 13th 2009 (Friday) in Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil.

I found out that Celcom's Channel X MeTV is running a contest where I could stand a chance to win a pair of VVIP tickets for the concert, representing Xpax to meet Rihanna, meet and greet pass, and best of all exclusive invites to Rihanna concert post party.

All I have to do is shoot a video impersonating Rihanna. Like the one below.

So, I called Nigel to help me in this because he's very good with video. We went to Pavilion KL and do the shoot. With David taking photos of me, Hsu Jen help to hold my things and Kel Li singing Umbrella in the background to give me the feel of the rhythm and tempo. There's a lot of people passing by the place where we were shooting but I don't really care and just continue to do my moves. Here's the video we did. What do you think? Am I a Grand Prize winner?

Well, even if this video is not good enough for the Grand Prize, I still get a chance at the 15 x consolation prizes which consists a pair of Rihanna concert tickets worth RM 198 each, meet and greet pass, and greet and send off Rihanna in KLIA.

Think you can do a better video than mine? Well, you can try it out too.

How to do it?

Step 1: Record your best Rihanna video from your mobile.

Step 2: Send your video via MMS to 26388 with RIHANNA typed in your message or subject box.

While to watch, rate & download videos on MeTV from your mobile:

Step 1 : Log on to http://wap.channelx.com.my/ (from your mobile)
Step 2 : go to Fun Stuff and select MeTV,
Step 3 : click on Rihanna category.
Step 4 : Watch, rate (my video) or download any of the listed video.

It's that simple really. Well except maybe for the part of you doing your best impersonating Rihanna. More details can be found here. Terms and condition apply.

Kepong Food Crawl

Simon Says: It's the first week of the month again. This means Time Out KL: Comedy Thursday Night is on the 5th of Feb 2009. Remember to get your discount voucher here.

This happened about a month ago. Yes, I was busy. I remember that I was going to take a short nap at about 8 p.m. I checked my mobile and saw a missed call from WMW. I called her and she asked me whether I know about Sen Kee Satay in Taman Desa Jaya. I don't quite know the name Taman Desa Jaya but I know there's an area we call Desa Jaya in between Kepong and Selayang. She then asked whether I am intrested in a food crawl in Kepong. I of course said yes. Even though I have limited money in my wallet lol.

So, I drove to Carrefour Kepong where WMW is waiting for me. Took me 20 minutes, normally only 5 minutes from my place. It was a Saturday so there's many people shopping. Once I get on WMW's car, I was greeted by a very hungry CityGal. Then Jason show me a street directory which is almost 5 year old. Metro Prima was not even there yet. -_- Once he pointed out our destination, I already know where's the place is at. So, I navigated them to Taman Desa Jaya. You can read how it all begin here.

First stop, Seng Kee Duck Satay. I've been living near Kepong for more than 20 years and I don't know about this place. What a shame.

They used to sell pork satay too but now it's replaced with lamb.

We ordered 10 sticks of satay for each of us, which is 40 sticks. CityGal tapao another 10 for KampungBoy and WMW also tapao another 20 sticks.

The staffs diligently preparing our duck satay.

The satay sauce is very creamy and peanut-ty.

Alas, the yummy duck satay with the side dishes of onion and cucumber. The texture of the duck meat is harder than chicken but softer than lamb. It doesn't have the gamey taste that duck has. It doesn't taste like roast duck, it's more like a kebab. At first, I only planned to have 5 sticks due to budget constraint but alas I can't deny such a temptalicious affair. I had 10 sticks instead.

Next stop, I recommended Gou Lou Chao Fun (Tall Man Fried Noodle) that I tasted a few years ago, which I think is not too bad. I warned them that we might have to wait very long though. Located along Jalan Kepong Besar, this restaurant has been serving the residents of Kepong for almost more than 25 years.

The restaurant is called Seng Yuen but the locals call it Gou Lou Chao Fun.

The noodles are cooked by this uncle alone, hence the long wait.

I ordered Hokkien Char (hor fun and mee, some might think it's weird but this is how I like it), Cantonese fried Ying Yong, and Loh Mee.

Hokkien Cha

After an hour long wait, our noodles finally arrived. Not sure whether it's because there's too many customers hence a drop in the quality. As, WMW put it, there's not enough wok hei and the lack of pork lark.

The Cantonese Fried Ying Yong tasted quite bland but WMW say it's ok for her. Maybe, I'm more towards the heavy tasting side lol.

Cantonese Fried Ying Yong

Sigh. Quite disappointing. It's not what I've tasted before. The disappointment doesn't stop there. The Loh Mee I ordered turned into Yee Mee instead. -__-

Afraid of waiting for another hour, we gladly took the Yee Mee. Not too bad the Yee Mee but it's never my plate of noodle.

Overall Rating: 3/5

Mun Yee Mee

Our disappointment ends when the pork lard that we ordered arrived at our table. Pork lard saves the day. Woot!

Trust me, it's not enough for the four of us.

It's almost 12 midnight when we reached our last stop for dessert. We passed by Tim Pun Gor Gor when we started our journey from Carrefour. Since my car parked in Carrefour, we make it out last stop of the night.

Since I only left RM 3 in my wallet, so I ordered one of the cheapest dessert sold here. Almond Sweet Soup + Red Bean + lotus seeds, RM 3 for a small bowl. It's a quite interesting mix. Never did I know that almond can taste so well with red bean. Yummy and fulfilling.

Sweet Soup + Red Bean + lotus seeds

CityGal ordered Black Sesame sweet soup + Almond sweet soup, RM 3 for small bowl. Hence the colours are black and white. Read her review here.

Black Sesame sweet soup + Almond sweet soup

Jason and WMW shared on of the most expensive yet nicest dessert here. The mango with noodles (RM 7.50). The noodles is actually coconut jelly shaped like hor fun (rice noodle). The 'noodles' are really refreshing and smooth. Blended very well with the mango. Next time will come back to eat one bowl.

Rating: 4/5

Mango with noodles.

Why is CityGal laughing?

Well, the staff there speak some very Hong Kong style Cantonese. The waiter told us that they need to 'ta yong' (means closing time) instead of 'san moon'. WMW which is not very well verse in traditional way of speaking don't get he waiter, hence created a very funny scene.

And we end the night of food crawl in Kepong here. Ah, such fun going on food crawl with fellow foodies. It's been a long while that I haven't done that. I wasn't even a blogger yet in my first food crawl. Total damage for the night is RM 15. Not too bad. That's all I have in my wallet lol.

MAS Lou Sang Dinner at Mum's Place

Chinese New Year in Malaysia and Singapore is never complete if one don't go for 'lou sang'. It's been kind of a tradition for the Chinese in the Straits here. My first 'lou sang' started almost 11 days before Chinese New Year. Thanks to the good people from Malaysian Airlines (MAS) to flew me and 24 other more famous bloggers.

I came to Mum's Place in Damansara Perdana after my cooking workshop stint. Here again I met one of my team mate in the cooking workshop, Babe KL. Meeting her two times in a day. I met her hubby and son too. Nice and friendly bunch.

Before the dinner start. Wai Fong from MAS gave us a short briefing. Thanks for the invitation.

Let the feast begin. The first dish, is of course 'yee sang'. BabeKL and family, John, Cindy, KampungBoyCityGal and I toss and toss and toss. That's lou sang. Salmon is used as the raw fish ingredient. The sauce is quite sourish which is very appetizing but a bit too sourish for my taste. Still it taste good.

Yee Sang

After tossing, I went around taking pictures of other tables.

Spotted Ringo and Kenny.

Next up is fried otak-otak. Personally I prefer steamed otak-otak but this one is not too bad. Goes very well with the marinated onion and cili padi (bird eye chili) dip. It's kind of spicy so if you can't take hot stuff, you might want to skip the dip.

Fried Otak-otak

Stir fried vegetable (I think it is potato leaf) is next. Very fresh and not overcooked. Taste is normal.

Rating: 3/5

Stir fried vegetable.

Then comes the prawn with butter & garlic. This prawn dish is marvelous and the prawn is fresh and springy. The sauce is quite addictive too. I cleaned out the sauce from the prawn only then I eat the meat lol. A must order when coming to mum's place.

Rating: 4/5

Prawn with butter & garlic.

Devil Curry, a very famous Peranakan dish. Very flavourful yet not too spicy for me. Goes very well with white rice.

Rating: 4/5

Devil Curry

As Peranakan food also have some Portuguese influence in it, this Portuguese Beef Slice must be it. I like the way they put in the tao pok (dried tofu) too. The tao pok can suck in the juice from the beef and become very flavourful. The beef is well marinated and very tender.

Rating: 4/5

Portuguese Beef Slice

The Asam Pedas Jehanak (fish cook in asam and chili) seems to be a popular dish here because my friend ordered this too the second time I came for dinner here during CNY. I gravy is not too bad but I found it too bland. Not sour and spicy enough. Another good dish to go with rice though.

Rating: 3/5

Asam Pedas Jenahak

After devouring all the main, Wai Fong offer us to order dessert too. So, while waiting for the dessert, us bloggers of course will camwhore.

From top left (clock wise): KampungBoyCityGal, Nicole & Linora, Kenny Sia, and Ringo.

From top left (clock wise): Thomas, Cindy, Huai Bin and KY.

Joyce and I were wearing flower theme that night.

Suanie too is wearing plants. lol

Wingz, Red Mummy and Sultan Muzzafar were there too.

Here comes the dessert.

Forgot who's Thai Sago Water Chestnut dessert.

I ordered red bean cendol. The cendol is very pandan-ish and the red bean paste has a very nice texture. A little bit too sweet for my taste, nevertheless a very nice dessert.

Rating: 3.5/5

Lastly everyone went home with goodies from MAS. Air tickets to Hong Kong! I wished. Well still the goodies are very festive. Pineapple tart, a diary and a pen drive bracelet.

The goodies. The MAS airplane model not included, sorry.

Thank you once again MAS for the delicious dinner.

P.S. Andy Lau dine here before too. Here's the proof. Picture from hanging on the wall.

Time Out KL: On the Up January

Simon Says: Valentine's Day is just two weeks away. Get your flowers and gift here.

I've missed the one on November and December due to my busy schedule. So, die die also I must make my way to the Time Out KL: On the Up in January. Made my way to No Black Tie after work. Kel Li of course is at the counter selling the entrance ticket. Nigel of course was there to take video and pictures. David, Hsu Jen, Joshua, and Aaron went to makan first before the show starts. Then Yatz came a few minutes after me. This time David's sister came too.

The first to perform is a guy whom call himself 2storeyheart, I heard Two Story High wtf. One thing for sure that his songs is damn boring. It is like the same tune sang in different lyrics. He sang six songs. Oh, the suffer. He sang too loudly too in such a small acoustic venue. He just playing his guitar no need to shout unless there's a band backing you up lah dey.

2StoreyHeart

The next up is BrokenScar and I think people in our table has been waiting for this. After listening to two songs they performed, I know why. They are very good. I even took video clips of them performing but I don't know why I bloody having trouble uploading to YouTube. So, you might want to visit Nigel's blog for more high quality video and the rest of the gang's blog for more pictures lol.

I ordered a bucket of Heineken. Drank 3 bottle, vomited after having food in mamak. Why?

Mood was brought to a slow when Izzy Mohamed performed. Performing slow pieces. Her voice is really jazzy. My kind of music. I especially like the song titled "Pelangi".

Nice to listen to slow music in a dimly lit venue.

The trance techno-ish Secret Love Affair is the last to perform. The vocal is not bad and the music is quite trance, makes me feels like I had 'ecstasy' or something like that. They also did a whole instrumental piece which is real nice.

Let's hope I'll be free to make it to the one on February.
