Selamat Hari Merdeka 2010

Oh Malaysia,
Negaraku yang tercinta,
Mengapamu menderita?
Anak-anakku tak bersatu,
Malaysia ku menjawab,
Mengapa tidak bersatu?
Ali tidak berkerjasama,
Ah Lek pula nak kuasa,
Sami masih nak kerja,
Manalah kita boleh bersatu?

Oh Malaysia,
Negaraku yang tercinta,
Jangan anda risau sangat,
Yang nakal hanya sikit,
Anak-anak lain semua baik,
Tiada yang tengok warna kulit,
Tiada yang saja main politik,
Biar kita ajar mereka di GE ke 13,
Mari kita menrayakan,
Hari Jadi anda yang ke 53.

Puisi atau sajak yang ditulis oleh saya dengan Bahasa Malaysia saya yang sudah berkarat. Kalaulah ada kesilapan, tolonglah maafkan.

The Loaf, Pavilion KL

I've never patronized The Loaf in Pavilion KL before even though it's been more than a year there. Firstly, I'm not a big fan of pastry and secondly, the price of pastry in The Loaf is not actually cheap. Then two weeks ago I got myself to Pavilion to meet up with Zoe to get my long awaited Christmas present and also I invited her to go to the Phua Chu Kang Fans Gathering.

She asked me to wait at the fountain in front of Pavilion KL

There's still an hour to kill for the fans gathering to start and we're both a bit hungry. So, I recommended that we go try out The Loaf. Most of you would have know that The Loaf is owned by our beloved ex Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir. The first outlet started in Langkawi, and only recent years the branch started up in Kuala Lumpur.

I saw that there's a 50% promotion on one new item. Tomato Cheese Pastry. Selling for RM 4.80 per piece normally but now it's only RM 2.40 per piece. So I ordered 1 for me and 1 for Zoe. Very suitable for her because she's half vegetarian.

Zoe remembered my birthday was two days ago, and she insists of buying me belated birthday cake. Awww.. so nice of her. Happens that The Loaf doesnt make any cake. So, instead of having birthday cake, Zoe bought me half a dozen of cup cake like Mini U-Hu-Hu.

Clock wise from top left: Oreo Crunch Munch, Nuts Nuts Nuts,Inspiring Fluffy, Glitzy Strawberries,Trickled Caramel, and Mango Banana Bliss.

There's some hit and misses in the Mini U-Hu-Hu. We liked the Inspiring Fluffy, Glitzy Strawberries and Trickled Caramel. Inspiring Fluffy is like a cheesecake but with more eggy flavour than cheese. Glitzy Strawberries is like a strawberry moose cake. Last but not least Trickled Caramel is like a egg pudding with caramel sauce, which is the one we liked best. There are a lot more choices to choose from and the more you buy the cheaper it is.

The other pastries look very nice and delicious looking but the price is a bit stiff for a non-pastry fan like me. Those of you that like good bakery and pastries should drop by and have a look. Good news is, now The Loaf has branches in Empire Shopping Mall in Subang Jaya and also IOI Boulevard in Puchong. Don't have to drive all the way and brave the traffic to Kuala Lumpur city center anymore.

Phua Chu Kang Fans Gathering

"I'm best in Singapore and JB. And some says Batam." If you have watched 1 or 2 episodes of Singapore's most popular English sitcom you would have known that familiar phrase which is spoken by the lead character of that famous sitcom, Phua Chu Kang (PCK).

After ending the long running sitcom (up to 10 seasons) in Singapore. Phua Chu Kang and his wife Rosie also made Phua Chu Kang Sdn Bhd, where the story will be shifted to Malaysia instead of Singapore. That lasted about 2 seasons. Now, the much awaited Phua Chu Kang movie will be shown or Don't Play Play In Cinema 26th of August.

Frequent cinema goers would have watched this Phua Chu Kang Movie teaser that reminds patrons to switch off their hand phone.

Last week, thanks to Nippon Paint Malaysia and Nuffnang, I got to go to the PCK Fans Gathering held in Rizt-Carlton Hotel, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. I invited Zoe along as she'll be going back to Canada for good soon. She is so nice to treat me birthday cakes at The Loaf. My first and only birthday cake this year. Thank you Zoe.

Yuenny and Jackie from Nuffnang and Churp Churp were there to give the passes to us.

Yuenny and Jackie

Before meeting PCK, we took pic with Nippon Paint's mascot

The MCs of the evening are the radio DJ Serena C of Mix FM and DJ Royce Tan of MY FM. That's Hooi Nee by the way. Royce is so cool. I took pic with them too but not from my camera. I forgot who took the pic already, damn.

Not long after that, the two actors and an actress of PCK Movie came in with the fans applauding. Gurmit Singh (Phua Chu Kang), Ireng Ang (Rosie) and Henry Thia (Lim Lau Peh). They were so into character once they were up on stage. Gurmit Singh didn't dressed up as his character because he is recovering from his Dengue fever. The doctor advised him not to dressed up as PCK because he tends to go hyper mode once he's in the costume.

There is this small girl that dresses up like Phua Chu Kang. Gurmit is so happy to meet her. Check out the video of this cute little PCK.

Jason, Michelle and I were joined as a one of the two team to act out a scene. We did our best but we lose out to a very old Rosie (an old man portraying her), a kid as PCK and an uncle as Lim Lau Peh. We did get some consolation prizes.

The fun doesn't stop there. The three stars took group picture with all the fans and autographed the movie poster for each of the fan that was there. So nice of them.

The other bloggers that were there are Coco, Suresh, Tian Chad, Yi Wern, Joshua, Rebecca, Feeq and Wilson. Sorry, if I missed out anyone. It was a fun gathering. Too bad no food but we have free flow of yummy Ho Yan Ho canned herbal jelly tea.

Repo Men

In a distance future not far away. Biotechnology has taken a big leap that now artificial bio mechanical internal organ was invented. Patients with cancers now could have a new leaf of life with these artificial organs. Those with kidney failure can have a new kidney without waiting for someone's kidney that is suitable. Not to mention liver, pancreas, esophagus and etc. You name it, The Union got it. But the organs comes with a hefty price.

No worries there because the Union has an easy payment installment scheme with just 19% interest per annum to help those in need but can afford to pay the full amount in one time. You owe it to family, you owe it to yourself. So, if it's your life that's at stake, surely you will sign the deal for that much needed organ that will save your life.

What if I missed the installment? Do not worry because The Union is so good that we will give you up to 96 days of grace period if ever you were haven't difficulty to pay on time. What if I can't pay up even after the grace period? Ah, then we will have our trained expert to come and take back the merchandise. Just like a car or a house, if you missed payment for three months, the bank will send their man to repossessed the car or house.

That basically what a repo man does in the story. Jude Law is one of them that does the dirty works. I am very glad that the censorship board didn't lay any cut or they were so good in cutting that I barely noticed it. Blood and gore is intact. Vulgarity is intact. Thus, this movie is rated 18.

While the plot is a bit predictable for me, it's still entertaining. The blood and gore is really not for everyone whom couldn't stand looking at live surgery. This is when scene of extracting the artificial organ. But if you like SAW series, Repo Men is just chicken feet to you. I do know of someone who watched the movie the same night as I did, didn't like the movie.

Jude Law has done a fairly good job in portraying a ruthless repo man in the beginning, extracting organs from defaulter without a blink of an eye. Until he himself needed an artificial heart transplant after an accident while he was trying to extract, ironically an artificial heart from a defaulter. After that, he didn't have the heart to do it anymore (extracting organ from defaulter). Because his bio-mech heart doesn't comes free, and he became a defaulter himself. Now he have to run from other repo men and one of them is his long time friend and partner (Forest Whitaker). Will he succeed in running away or take down The Union even? Well, Repo Men is showing on the cinemas now, go and watch for yourself.

Pork Pie and Chinese Chives Pie From TMN Sri Bintang Pasar Malam

Again last Saturday I went to hunt for food in the pasar malam (night market) in Taman Sri Bintang. I blogged about the Penang Nasi Lemak that is also found here. I wanted to try something a little different from the usual fare in a pasar malam. As I walked about, I spotted this.

Pork Pie & Leek Pie? (韭菜) Chinese Chives to be correct.

The Pork Pie (鲜肉煎包) (RM 2) and Chinese Chives (韭菜煎包) pie (RM 1.50) which is more like a puff shaped bao to me is grilled instead of the normal steamed. Hence, the other skin will be crispy.

What I like about this stall is that the bao is freshly wrapped on the spot with fresh ingredients instead of using frozen dough and pre-wrapped ingredients.

On the way to my car, I saw the Mat Dou Yao (乜都有) (which means everything also have in Cantonese) truck. So, I bought a big Mat Dou Yao (RM 4.80) for dessert. Loads of goodness in the lin chi kang.

Yes. Semua aku mau.

The pork pie and the Chinse Chives pie are definitely a good buy. The outer is very crispy yet the inner part is still soft like your normal bau. The ingredients inside still retains the juice. Yummy.

Rating: 4/5

I then wash it down with a cool bowl of Mat Dou Yao. Satisfaction.

Rating: 3.5/5

Note: Pictures are taken using my LG GW525 3MP camera. So quality is a bit low.

We Can Has Free Beer

Last Thursday I went to Asia Cafe to queue up for my free beer after seeing so many people Tweeting about it. If you follow my Tweeter, you'll know that I Tweeted about it quite a lot too. I arrived at about 4.30 pm not many were there yet. As I was walking around looking to order food, I bumped into Serge. Not long after that Jessica came and we sat together.

I ordered Korean food, Pork Kimchi Soup. Seraph Sam ordered a teh ais and the three of us didn't order any drinks because we wanted to wait for the free beer.

My breakfast

Then we saw the free beer flyer stating that free beer will only start to be given out at 6pm. We have to wait for one more hour. We were thirsty after eating, so we ordered drinks too.

Starts only at 6pm

They forgot the sugar and the waiter gave me sugar for my Teh C ais -_-

Then more and more people came. Wen Pink, Wilson, Suresh, Adele, Karen, Yuen Yee, Huai Bin, Michael, Timothy, SaiMatKong and many more. At 5.50 pm, I saw there's not queue yet, so I went up to queue. I was the 2nd in the queue. After that many more people started to queue up.

Yes. The free beer is Tiger Beer with the new can design

Wen Pink, Huai Bin, Jessicca & Serge in the 2nd line

This queue is not long yet

Each of us can take 4 cans and you can queue up again if you want to take another 4 cans. There's group of people that goes so many rounds that after the cut off, they've collected about 8 crates of Tiger beer. 1 crate has 4 dozens can. That's about 384 cans. Talk about kiasuism.

We can has free BEER!

It was a fun evening queuing for free beer with some fellow bloggers. I then joined another group of friends to savour their free beers.

My Kina Grannis - Stairwells CD Has Arrived

Talk about efficiency. I ordered Kina Grannis latest album Stairwells from her website last week, and it reached my doorstep exactly a week from when I ordered it. I took notice of her music after a saw her appearance in FUNemployed by Wong Fu Productions. If you haven't catch the fun web series, you should go catch it already. I checked out her Youtube channel and found Valentine MV. I love it the moment I listened (and watched)  to it.

I still remembered that I ordered the CD on 4th of August, which happens to be her birthday. So, she's gave a 15% discount on all products purchased on that day. What a coincidence, my niece Ruth's birthday also fell on the same day.

Happy Birthday Ruth

My nephew Noah

Here's the merchandise.

All the way from Nevada, USA

Album Cover, gorgeous isn't it?
The Stairwells CD

There's 14 tracks in this album. For USD 12.00 before discount, it's such a bargain, so I only paid USD 10.80 plus USD 6.50 for International shipping. Delivery is fast. Oh, you'll be given a link to download a bonus track "Make Me" once you've purchased the CD online.

You can hears sample of the tracks here. I found all the tracks are very good. Maybe I like music that is lively yet not too loud and give you a very quiet and peaceful feeling. Good news, you can download her single "Valentine" for free.

Okay. That's all for now. I have to concentrate on listening to Stairwells. ;)

Celio Launching at Pavilion KL

Thanks to Michelle I got invited to the launching of the first Celio clothing store in Pavilion KL a few weeks ago. Celio is an international men's clothing retailer from France. On that launching day, three range of men's clothing were introduced.

Sporting:

Girl can wear men's clothing too.

Casual:

Celio Club:

For more picture of the clothing wore by the models, go to my Picasa album.

Brendan and Suresh were there too.

Champagne, lemongrass cocktail and Hennessy XO were served. I think XO is an acquired taste, it tasted like medicine to me.

I'm not the only one that think that XO is blah.

No one finish the XO.

The MC plays game with the guest there and I won a belt worth RM 260 just by answering a simple question. To my OMGness, the goodies bag giving the same belt -_- FML. I got two same belts. I gave the other to my cousin sis Joyce when I got home lol.

Here's one of the more challenging game.

They get to keep the accessories as prize.

Oh. I also bumped into Aenie Wong (王淑君) one of the main actress in last year NTV7 hit Chinese TV series 女头家 (The Iron Lady ). She is nominated Best Actress for the same TV series for this year and the first TV awards presentation, Golden Awards (金视奖). The theme song is not bad too.

With Aenie Wong

Thank you Michelle for the invite.
