Ah Balling Peanut Soup, Bedok 85 Food Center

After dinner in New Century Village Eating House, my sister suggested to buy Ah Balling Peanut Soup for dessert in Blk 85 Bedok Food Center (the bak chor mee here also not bad, I tried it two years ago). At first I thought the name is quite funny because my niece keep saying. Ah Balling, Ah Balling and I don't have any idea what is it lol.

Turn out, Ah Balling is tang yuan 汤圆 (glutinous rice ball) cook in a peanut sweet soup with a lot of peanuts. You can opt for the fillings for the glutinous rice ball. You can choose from sesame, peanuts,

Damn. I've never tasted something like this before the peanut soup is very good and I like the soften peanut that I can still chew on, unlike the grind peanut soup. The rice ball is quite big, very smooth and quite chewy. Makes me crave for it now that I am writing this post. I should have go for another round before I come back to KL.

Rating: 4.5/5

I later found out from the Internet that Ah Balling started since 1947 in a hawker stall in Chinatown. Now they have stalls in a few food center. There's a very detail description from Street Directory here.

On the side note. After tapaoing the Ah Balling, we passed by this bakery and were attracted by the aroma of cakes. The smell is too good to resists. So we bought variety of butter cakes. I chose Butter Walnut Cake, which my mum mistakenly eaten and left a bit for me the next morning -_-

I will say that the butter cakes here is very nice. One for SGD $1.20 and two for $ 2, not too bad right?

The cheese cake look tasty too, so we bought one box for SGD $4.80.

Nuffnang Hong Kong Will Be Coming Soon!

Surprise! Surprise! Last week from an online interview of Boss Ming I was able to guess that Nuffnang has expanded to China. Check out Nuffnang China's website. It's all in Chinese. Feel quite weird looking at a familiar Nuffnang website all written in Chinese. There's even Nuffnang Bloggers of the month from Malaysia, Singapore and Philippine and their posts were translated to Chinese. Nuffnang in Chinese is called "拿福能" which also can mean "Can get prosperity".

There are already activities going on in Nuffnang China.

Then yesterday I had a chat with Timothy when I met him in an event and he told me there will be another new Nuffnang launching in another country by this year. So, that's mean besides Nuffnang China there will be another one coming up before the end of this year. He don't want to give it out though.

Well, this won't be too difficult, using my deducing skill I was able to roughly guess. By reading the blog of both Nuffnang bosses, I was able to see that they travel to China. The other country that they also went to is non other than Hong Kong. As logic, if one opens Nuffnang China, why not do one in Hong Kong too which has lesser red tapes than doing it in China. Timothy told me that they need to apply load of licenses to open Nuffnang China, a license is even needed to register the domain Nuffnang.com.cn.

True and behold. I went home and type http://www.nuffnang.com.hk on my browser. Voila, loaded the Nuffnang Hong Kong portal. Although it's still not developed yet but I can see testing of a Tweet from @NuffnangHK. I think there's still work to be done on Nuffnang HK like having Chinese Traditional as language option because Hong Kong uses a different Chinese typeset.

So, Nuffnanger be sure to see two more flags added to the Nuffnang portal. Congratulation to Nuffnang to be able to expand to China and Hong Kong. Maybe we might see Nuffnang India not very long from now.

Fish Head Steamboat at Century Village Eating House

The night following the day that my sister brought me to Chew Kee for the soya sauce chicken noodle, she then brought me to Century Village Eating House in Bedok factory area for fish head steamboat. Fish head steamboat is popular in this eatery my sis told me.

But turn out, we're not ordering fish head lol. We just ordered a sliced fish meat hotpot.

Ordered extra enoki mushroom to be added to the hotpot.

I found that the fish stock taste very nice and has a natural sweetness to it. Dig deeper and I found out why.

The stock is cooked with yam. So, I guess the natural sweetness come from the yam. I can assure that no MSG is added to the stock because I was not thirsty after drinking the soup. The fish sliced is quite fresh too.

Rating: 4/5

We also ordered other dishes to go with white rice.

Beer pork ribs. Not too bad.

Their signature tofu.

Stir-fried vegetable.

We only ordered 3 more dishes because the fish hotpot is actually quite big and filled with generous amount seaweed, cabbage, yam and fish slice.

Hitting the High Notes with Lin Yu Chun 林育羣 Malaysia Showcase

I was invited to Lin Yu Chun 林育羣 未來的第一站 大马音乐会 Malaysia Showcase last Saturday at Rootz, Lot 10, Bukit Bintang. Thank you Sony Music Malaysia. Not many familiar faces there. The only one I knew there is Tian Chad. He then bumped into his friend Patrick. I think most of the bloggers went to the other event happening at the same time. Yupe. I saw loads of Tweet from there.

Oh. You don't know who is Lin Yu Chun or more popularly known as his nickname Xiao Pang (小胖). He went on to One Million Star Season 6 (超级星光大道 6) and PKed the contestants there. Then the video of him singing Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" got so many hits on the Internet that the people from US of A started to noticed him. They even nicknamed him "Asian's Susan Boyle". The people from Sony Music then signed him up as a recording artist and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

He was down in Kuala Lumpur to promote two of his debut album, an English ("It's My Time") and a Chinese album ("未來的第一站') . I think he is still in Kuala Lumpur because I heard him doing interview on local Chinese radio station 988 yesterday night.

There were a lot of media there that night. I overheard someone from 8TV 八八六十事 was there too.

Camwhored with Tian Chad while waiting.

After an hour of waiting, finally DJ Jason from MYFM took the stage and introduced Lin Yu Chun.

Chit chat later, everyone is waiting for him to sing. The first song he did is a song from his Chinese debut album. I didn't manage to take video of it though.

A bit of interview with DJ Jason after the first song.

Then he sang the song that made him get noticed, and the crowd went wild. "I Will Always Love You". Man, the high notes that he can do will embarass a lot of female singers.

Time for some fun and game with his fans. There of the fans picked have to sing one song from the album. Juliana, one of his fan there flew all the way from Sarawak to meet him.

Two songs are not enough of the crowd of course. He then sang a cover that he did on one of 順子 Shun Zhi's hit single 星星 (I Am Not A Star) from his Chinese album.

He sang one last song from his English album, "Under Your Wings", which is composed by Walter Afanasieff, whom produced "My Heart Will Go On" for Celine Dion.

It doesn't end there. It's now autograph session for the fans. He did another one at 3pm in Lot 10 a few hours before. One of his PK mate from Malaysia 馬嘉軒 was there to give him her support. She was the first one to get his autograph.

Fans lining up to get his autograph.

After almost half an hour and it's all done. It's time for Lin Yu Chun to say goodbye to his fans. Ah such talented young man.

P.S. For those of you that don't know. PK means "Player Killing",in One Million Star, not Penalty Kick or Pok Kai. It's like a one on one between two or more contestants, the one of the lowest score will be "killed" (put in the loser's area).

My Magical Journey

Narnia is back for the 3rd installment. I watched the 1st but missed the 2nd. So now the 3rd, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, I will want to watch it. If I were to be able to go the the magical world of Narnia, I will truly like to explore the Eastern Ocean.

One can get a very beautiful view of the surface of the earth meet the sky view travelling on Eastern Ocean due to the fact that the world of Narnia is flat (yes, Columbus will be wrong with his theory here :p)

Not only that, it is said that the "sweet" water from the Eastern Ocean capable of sating both hunger and thirst, and is completely covered by large lilies. So, I will really want a drink of the "sweet" water to see if it really as it's said and what it taste like. Will it taste like honey?

Good news if you're a GSC-EON Bank Credit Card holder or plan to sign up for one. You'll get to participate in the The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader contest on going now. What more, you'll get free GSC tickets just by signing up. Terms and conditions apply of course. Want to know more about the contest? Go click here.
