The Noodle Stall at Restoran Cheong Kong, Bandar Manjalara

Last Saturday, Dennis invited me, Satkuru and Aaron for breakfast in a hideaway noodle stall in Bandar Manjalara. No problem for me finding the place because my house is about 2 mins drive. The noodle is actually inside a make shift shop using stainless steel roof opposite the factory and warehouses. So, one would have guess that the people working in the area there are the main customer.

Dennis told us that curry mee (RM 3.50) is the hottest selling item there. True enough, we reached at 10am there and curry mee was sold out -_____- So, all we left is the clear soup noodle. I chose pan mee for the noodle while Satkuru and the rest chose hor fun.

The pan mee (RM 3.30) comes with fried ikan bilis, shitake and potato leafs. Quite a simple condiments. It will be nice to have a bit of pork lard added on it though. The soup is quite al dente for a pan mee soup. One thing to mention is that the pan mee is very smooth, I pan mee was easily suck into my mouth lol. The pan mee is of course best eaten with the grind chili sauce.

Rating: 3.5/5

Chili that goes well with the pan mee

For those that ordered non pan mee noodle, the condiments are much richer. There's fishballs, sliced pork, vegetable and fishcake. I should have tell the lady boss to add more stuff in my pan mee kekeke.

Hor fun soup (RM 3.30).

The noodle are not enough to feed 4 of us, so we ordered a plate of chicken rice from the next stall. Instead of steamed or roasted chicken, we had fried chicken thigh. The fried chicken is very nice actually, very crispy outside and tender inside. The downside is that the it's covered with soya sauce which was a bit too salty. If you come to order fried chicken, you may wanna tell the boss to skip the soya sauce.

Rating: 3/5

The oil rice comes as a surprise for all of us because it is very fluffy and flavourful. Rich taste of ginger. I finished the whole plate of rice almost all by myself.

Rating: 4/5 for the rice

Too bad we didn't get to try the curry mee on that day. When something can sold out so fast, it can only mean one thing. It's very good. I'll surely come back again to taste the curry mee since it's quite near my house anyway. I'll come earlier of course, come before 9am to be safe. Tell me how's the curry mee if any of you have tasted it.

Nothing to do with the Restoran Cheong Kong, just happend that it got a big banner there.

Address:

Google map here.
Open from morning till lunch time.

It's quite easy to come to this area. If you're coming from LDP, after the Kepong toll make a U-turn at the end of the highway then turn left when there's a turning. At, the roundabout, go 12, all the way straight until you come to a cross road. Go straight again, you'll come to a road that split into two, one going up a flyover and another road on the left. Take the left route but do not turn left, go straight and you'll be under the flyover, make a U-turn here. Go straight, and turn left into the factory area and turn a quick left again where you'll see a few make shift shops on your left. Restoran Cheong Kong is the last one.

No Sweat!

Malaysia is summer all year round. During a sunny day, even if I am just wearing a T-shirt, I'll starts to swear like a pig. After that, you won't want to come near me because I'll be very strong odour, especially the odour coming from my armpit.

So, to overcome this problem. I'll be using deodorant to keep my armpits from sweating and thus keeping "them" smelling good all the time when I go out. Of all the deodorant out there, I found that Adidas Action 3 deodorant works best for me.

I was introduced to Adidas deodorant by my cousin Elaine from Hong Kong. I was visiting my aunt in Hong Kong in the year 2006 and I guess they found out that I have a BO problem. Hence, Elaine gave me a few deodorants, and one of it is Adidas. Since then I never switch to another brand of deodorant.

I'm currently using Adidas Action 3 Sensitive deodorant.

I like it so much that started to buy Adidas Action 3 deodorant when I came back to Malaysia. Thanks to Project Alpha Season 1, I won like about a two year supplies of Adidas Action 3 deodorant. With all the deodorant I can use, I can now eat chili pan mee in Kin Kin or Super Kitchen Restaurant without any bad odour from my body. Really No Sweat!

Project Alpha Season 2 is presented by Adidas Action 3 and supported by P1 and MAS. Auditions are now open! Check it out at www.projectalpha.com.my/auditions

Tai Wing Wah Restaurant (大榮華酒樓), Hong Kong

After having a taste of TPK Swiss Sauce Chicken Wings in the old school Tai Ping Koon Restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui. Elaine and I met up with Aaron. We then took the MTR to Lai Chi Kok station and then changed to the West Rail (西铁) to go to Yuen Long station. From Yuen Long station we took the green taxi (taxis in New Territory are green instead of red as in Hong Kong and Kowloon) to Tai Wing Wah Restaurant(大榮華酒樓) which is quite near the Yuen Long West Rail Station but we were lazy to walk. The fare is not very expensive because green taxi initial charges is cheaper than the red taxi.

When we reached there, my aunt (Elaine's mum) already took a table. Be warn, there's no reservation service here, one have to come early to take a number and queue up to get a table. From the crowd I saw there, you should really come very early if you don't want to wait too long. Lucky for us, my aunt got some reputation in eateries in Yuen Long, especially Tai Wing Wah because she's a frequent customer there. So, we were able to get a place :p (Still she has to come early)

Wing Wah Since 1950

So my aunt just ask the captain to recommend a few of their signature dishes. The one signature dish or rice to be exact to order here is of course their pork lard rice (猪油饭). It's actually white rice steamed in a clay bowl (which looks so much like a beggar's bowl) and then you'll have to mix a scoop of premium soya sauce and half scoop of pork lard with the rice.

Put Chai Fan

Premium soya sauce and pork lard.

The pork lard is specially made in the restaurant not just any pork lard. The colour of the pork lard is so nice. I am lazy to use words to describe how to create the pork lard rice. Hence, I took video.

This is how the pork lard rice looks like after the mixing.

Pork lard rice.

Ah, the aroma of the pork lard rice is really hard to describe in words. The premium soya sauce also tasted fabulous, never tasted soya sauce that you can still taste the soya bean. We ordered each of us a bowl of pork lard rice. Aaron and I of course had a go on mixing the pork lard rice.

Careful, careful.

Why so serious?

Okay time for the dish to be serve. The speed they serve the dishes is fast. It's a must, if not they won't be able to serve so many customer that are still queuing.

Wai Tao Five Taste Chicken (围头五味鸡)

Nice and tender chicken. The taste is not too bad too. Much like the soya sauce chicken. The next dish, is a must order here because you won't be able to find it in Malaysia or I think. The baked eggs with fish intestines (鸡蛋焗鱼肠) is something that is out of this world. It's the first time I've eaten fish intestines. The combination of both are just marvelous. My personal recommendation besides the pork lard rice.

Baked eggs with fish intestines (鸡蛋焗鱼肠)

How it look like inside.

Next up is the Claypot Bamboo Shoots and Fresh Oyster with Ginger & Spring Onion (薑总枝竹生蠔煲). The oysters are so fresh and juicy. The bamboo shoots and the fu chuk absorbed the sauce, which tasted so flavourful.

Claypot Bamboo Shoots and Fresh Oyster with Ginger & Spring Onion (薑总枝竹生蠔煲)

We Cantonese people must have soup in our dinner. So, we have big bowl of soup of the day (明火煲例汤). Nice to balance up the ying and yang of our body.

Today healthy life stlye, we of course must always have some green in our food. Very fresh vegetable. This restaurant is in Yuen Long after all. Very near the vegetable farms.

We end the dinner with complimentary dessert. Red bean soup, Cantonese style, the red bean are cook till dissolved.

Ah, it was such a wonderful dinner. My saliva is drooling while I am writing this. I wanna have a taste of the pork lard rice and the baked eggs with fish intestines too. It's worth the travel from Hong Kong to Yuen Long, New Territory. Not a problem for me because I stayed at my aunt's place which is in New Territory too. You might also want to try the famous B仔 herbal jelly while you are here. Elaine told me it's quite near Tai Wing Wah.

Address:

Tai Wing Wah Restaurant (大榮華酒樓)
2/F Koon Wong Mansion, 2-6 On Ning Road Yuen Long 元朗安寧路2-6號2樓
Tel: +852 2476 9888

Directions: Take MTR to Lai Chi Kok Station, change to West Rail and stop at Yuen Long Station. From there, take the green taxi and tell the taxi driver to take you to Tai Wing Wah. Taxi fare should be around HKD 20 or less. It's very famous there in Yuen Long, so every taxi driver will know how to go there.

Light Rail Station in Yuen Long

After the fulfilling dinner, we decided to walk to the Light Rail (轻铁) station and take a light rail to the West Rail Yuen Long station. Yes, from Yuen Long to Hong Kong or Kowloon, you can take Light Rail then change to West Rail and finally change to MTR. Takes about 45 minutes plus minus. Very convenience the public transport in Hong Kong. Especially if you have the Octopus Card.

Tai Ping Koon Restaurant (太平館餐廳), Hong Kong

On a Saturday afternoon. My cousin Elaine brought me to Tai Ping Koon Restaurant (太平館餐廳) in one of their Tsim Sha Tsui branch to have tea. This is a place to eat Western food, Hong Kong style. This place is different from Garden Restaurant because Tai Ping Koon was founded in 1860 during the Qing Dynasty.

There's a few signature dish that one must try in Tai Ping Koon and one of them is the Swiss Sauce Chicken Wings. The chicken wings are very well marinated. It tasted like a mix of soya sauce and ketchup, HP sauce maybe? There's boiled brocolli and radish as the side.

Rating: 4.5/5

Their hi-tea set is quite affordable and many choices. The other signature dishes that you might want to try here is the TPK Roasted Young Pigeon, Baked Crab Meat in Shell, Baked Portuguese Style Chicken, and TPK Bake Souffle.

If you want to experience the western cuisine that the people in Hong Kong had in the 70s and eat in a restaurant that will take you back in time to that era, Tai Ping Koon Restaurant is really one of it's kind. I don't think there's many old western restaurant left in Hong Kong nowadays.

Very old school design.

I only had the TPK Swiss Sauce Chicken Wings because I wanted to save some space for dinner. We were going to eat at Tai Wing Wah (大榮華). One of the famous dish there is the pord lard rice. Yum yum. Will post up the great food there soon.

Hennessy Artistry 2010 at Opera Club, Sunway

It's back and I went. Yes, I meant Hennessy Artistry is back and I got the media pass to go to the event last Friday in Opera Club, Sunway. I reached there early at about 7pm because I have to attend the press conference.

Finally met the popular blogger that has the same name as me. Simon So.

Joey G is the MC for the press conference.

He introduced each of the performer that is going to perform that night. Then there was the Q & A session. Firstly is Joey G doing the questioning and the performer answers. Then the Q & A was opened to the public.

The line up for the 1st Hennessy Artistry in 2010: DVJ G Mix, Shawn Lee, DJ Sasara, & Bunkface. I can't helped but think of Xia Xue when I look at DJ Sasara's bleached blonde hair.

I was busy eating the finger food that seem to be endlessly coming and of course the free flow of Hennessy Artistry mix. This time Hennessy Citrus was introduced. Even during the press conference I drank about 3 glasses already.

At about 9pm, the doors are opened and we can go into the dance club. I was greeted by the Hennessy Mixing Bar when I came out from the elevator in the 1st floor of Opera Club. Michelle here was kind enough to show me how to create a Hennessy Artistry mix. So, I ordered a Hennessy Cranberry mix from her.

Picture is not enough, let beautiful Michelle show you step by step on how to create a Hennessy Cranberry mix, the step is the same for other mix, it's just the mixer that is different.

After I took my glass my Hennessy Cranberry, I went to the media/blogger area. Lo and behold, on each table, there was one bottle of Hennessy VSOP and 3 different mixers. There are cranberry, citrus and coke mixer. I am one very happy person already. Florence and Joyce were happy to share their bottle of Hennessy VSOP with me.

With Florence.

With Joyce.

Brenden later came over and told Florence and Joyce that Hennessy Ginger mix is very good. I tried that in the press conference, which is of course very nice if you like the taste of ginger ale.

I helped myself to another glass of Hennessy Ginger.

The crowd is starting to build up as time passes.

There was an air acrobat performance above the dance floor to keep the crowd entertained while waiting for the real show to start.

More pictures with people that I bumped into that night.

Zoe. She's been very busy lately.

Long time no see, Jane. She came all the way from Penang.

SJ are you drinking H2O?

Wen Pink. Future airline cabin crew.

The show finally starts but I didn't take notice much except when Shawn dish out his B-boxing stuff. Why? Well, I bumped into the FHM Girl Next Door Finalists. Since this is not the first time I meet them, so we did a bit of a catch up.

Julia, Crystal, Hui Jeat, and Michelle.

There's so many more pretty girls at the opposite of the media/blogger area. One is the VIP area which I can't go in and another is the public area. Lucky some of the girls chose to sit in the public area.

Sook Foong.

BangsarBabe. She was in the VIP area. Very nice of her to come out and take pic with me kekeke.

Crystal Liew.

Julia Moh.

Jesmine Yep

Hui Jeat

Last but not least. Katherine Ng. FHM GND Finalist. Probably Miss Universe Malaysia 2010 Finalist too. This girl can really dance.

<

Bunkface came out to rock the crowd. The crowd went wild and I continued my picture taking. I was tired after Katherine teach me how to dance with my chest. Takes a lot of energy yo!

Amanda Panda. Long time no see girl.

Then I met some of the Nuffies there.

Very beautiful Jestina.

Very gorgeous Michelle.

Very pretty Rachel.

Damn, the guys working in Nuffnang is so damn lucky. Why all their female colleagues so damn hot one.

Finally, DJ Sasara spinning some cool dance hits.

The picture not clear you say? Don't worry, I got video.

Lastly, picture with Nicole and Emeryn. They were both in VIP area at first, so I couldn't reach them to take picture with them lol. Lucky they came over after the floor is open for all.

Nicole and Emeryn.

Well, this Hennessy Artistry is not too bad at all. Bumped into so many people. I bumped into one of my high school friend too. She won't let me take picture with her though. Pinky was working there and she don't let me take picture with her too T_T

There's more Hennessy Artistry coming. So, not to miss out in the coming event, it's good to join the Hennessy Artistry Facebook page and also follow their Twitter too.
