McDonald's Breakfast Day

McDonald's did a street survey and found out that most Malaysian knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but about 62% of the people skipped breakfast due to various reasons. One of the most common reason is that there's not enough time because they were rushing for work or scchool.

As one of the major fast food chain in Malaysia, McDonald's decided to help encourage Malaysians to get their breakfast without the needed time to wait for long. We all know the service in McDonald's is quite fast.

So, the action to encourage more Malaysians to get their breakfast, McDonald's has declared next Monday, 19th November 2012 is McDonald's Breakfast Day. Which means, from 7am to 10am on that day the first 1000 customers could redeem an Egg McMuffin for free from selected McDonald's outlets that serves breakfast. Click here to check on a selected McD's outlet near you.

So be sure to go get yourself a free Egg McMuffin from a selected McDonald's outlet near you. You can also purchase the other McDonald's breakfast meal if an Egg McMuffin is not enough for you.

Trying Out McDonald in Hong Kong

It was day two in Hong Kong. I had an appointment to meet up Jane, a Malaysian friend of mine that is married to a Hong Kong husband, thus she's now staying in Hong Kong. Our meeting point is Sogo, Causeway Bay. Since I've arrive 2 hours earlier, so I went to try out the McDonald's just opposite the road because I haven't had anything yet.

At first I wanted to try out the pork burger with egg but then I saw McD's Hong Kong is promoting the monthly special burger, and December is the prawn burger, Mega Ebi Burger (the normal one is Ebi Burger). So, Mega Ebi Burger it is.

This is how it looks like. Fried prawn patties on a sesame bun with lettuce and McD's thousand island sauce. Writing this reminds me of this lol.

The prawn meat look quite fresh. It's quite good.

The WiFi here is free for the first 20 minutes, after that you'll have to buy package from PCCW. I found that there's hardly any free WiFi in Hong Kong's cafe or fast food chain. Sigh. Unlike Malaysia, even some mamak restaurant got free WiFi. Maybe space is too limited there and the eateries don't want to customer to sit too long lol.

After the fast meal in McD's, I went to the meeting point. I waited in front of Sogo for Jane. After half an hour I got a call from her telling me she can't find me. It is because it got windy so I pulled up my hood and she can't recognize me lol. My bad too for not noticing her earlier call. She then met up with me with her sister Chin that is studying in Lingnan University in Tuen Mun.

The first place she brought me to is Yee Shun Milk Company, lol. So this time instead of double boiled milk, I opted for double boiled egg custard because I just had milk in Australian Milk Co. the day before with my cousin.

I can't really tell the different in the custard egg but I found that the milk in Yi Shun is milkier lol.

Looks like tao fu fa lol.

Next stop, Macau Restaurant (澳门茶餐庭). Non-stop eating, no wonder I put on 5 kg when I was in Hong Kong for just 10 days.

Portugal tart is a must try here of course but someone told me that the tart in Portugal is way better than the one in Macau. Well, not everyone can fly to Portugal and eat tart :p

My Yin Yong (Milk tea mixed with coffee)

I ordered a pork cutlet bun tea set. It comes with scrambled egg, which is very nice. I like the fluffy texture and the buttery taste. I wonder how to make scrambled egg with that kind of fluffiness.

Thank you Jane and Chin.

After Macau Restaurant, we went to walk around near Causeway Bay and we run into a shop selling 鸡蛋仔 (something like egg pancake only crunchier). Jane told me that this one is quite popular. So, even though my stomach almost going to burst, I still bought one to try. I was told that original flavour is the best and it had to be a bit burnt.

It's very nice indeed but a bit too many for me to finish it all. So, I ate it bit by bit will walking around in Causeway Bay. It tasted like crunchy kaya balls without the kaya lol.

That's the first half of my 2nd day trip in Hong Kong. Stay tuned.

Pepper Lunch, Pavilion KL

Simon Says: This is something similar to what I'll be going to do for the next 20 days or so. For mine, MY FM is the organizer.

After having teh halia and paru goreng for tea, I headed down to Pavilion KL from 1 Utama. I am meeting Nigel in Pepper Lunch for dinner because he'll be helping me to shoot my Rihanna impersonation video that night.

The first time I tried Pepper Lunch was in Singapore early last year because at that time there's no outlet in Malaysia yet. As Jeroen commented in the post, they are opening in KL soon. Yes, he's right. They opened their first Malaysian outlet in Pavilion KL, which don't surprise me. Seeing food chains from Singapore opening all their first outlet there such as Food Republic, Ministry of Food, Dainti Hill and etc.

The outlet here in Pavilion KL is bigger than the outlet I went to in Singapore. Yes, we got the luxury of space here, so don't envy us Singaporean. LOL. Just kidding. Ahem. Let's get back to the main topic.

Well, one thing I don't envy being a Malaysian is that our spending power is low comparing to our friends from across the Causeway. While it cost only SGD 9.90 for a Weekday Lunch Star Deal set of Pepper Steak that comes with rice and a soda, it cost RM 30.80 for a Pepper Steak and rice here in Malaysia. You have to top up RM 2.50 for a soup or a soda. Even if converted back to Malaysian Ringgit, it's still cheaper to eat in Singapore. If one is earning Sing Dollar then it's even more affordable. Sigh.

The ordering is the same here. Place your order at the counter, you'll be given a number to place on your table, and then they will serve your order. This time I ordered Hamburger Steak with Fried Egg (RM 21.80).

Instruction of how to cook your Pepper Lunch.

Spread the butter evenly on the Hamburger.

Instead of the normal garlic or honey sauce, I was advised by the staff there to pour the French Onion sauce. I call it that because it tasted damn like French Onion soup, only thicker and saltier.

Pouring my sauce after the needed done-ness is reached.

Taste wise, it's not too bad but it still can't beat Pepper Steak that I had in Singapore. Didn't know what hamburger can go so well with rice. It must be the sauce. It's quite fulfilling too with the fried egg, bean sprout and corn as the side. Wish that they will come out for set lunch that is much more affordable. If not, I think they won't last very long in Malaysia.

Down it with rice not fries.

Even though it's not what I was expecting as the one that I've eaten in Singapore but with the eating with a company of fun loving friends more than cover the flaw. Thanks David, Hsu Jen, Kel Li, and Nigel for helping me making the Rihanna video.

KFC Zinger Tower

Honestly speaking, I'm not a fan of fast food. There's only a few fast food that I like and will never get bored of ordering when ever I patron a fast food restaurant. When I go to KFC for a quick meal, the food that I always order is the KFC Zinger burger. Just can't quite get it that restaurant to specialized in chicken can make such delicious burger.

I was in 1 Utama walking about when I saw this. As if a Zinger is not enough, now they have Zinger Tower. Since, I am a Zinger's fan, something like this I of course won't miss. In, I go and order myself a KFC Zinger Tower.

Already decorated for Chinese New Year.

I ordered an ala carte KFC Zinger Tower (RM 6.60 excluding tax) because I don't quite fancy carbonated drinks. There's also a Zinger Tower combo (RM 15.90 excluding tax) which consists of 1 zinger tower, 1 regular pepsi max, 1 mango pudding, and 1 zinger time watch.

Nice packing.

The difference between KFC Zinger Tower and the normal Zinger is that there's an additional hash brown added to it. While it is not as tall as shown in the board outside the KFC outlet. The size is bigger than normal Zinger.

KFC Zinger Tower

Biting into the KFC Zinger Tower took me quite an effort because I don't really have a big mouth (no pun intended). The Zinger fillet gave a dash of spiciness like the KFC Hot & Spicy chicken. The hash brown combining with the cheese, Zinger fillet and the chili lime sauce seems weird but tasted delicious nevertheless. One thing is that adding the hash brown to it makes the whole burger very fulfilling. I like the chili lime sauce very much, wish I can have more of it.

See me devouring the KFC Zinger Tower in the video below:

I like more of the delicious chili lime sauce.

RM 6.60 ++ for a KFC Zinger Tower is very affordable and very fulfilling. One of this baby can last me until the next meal. Ah, another good Zinger series from KFC. Will surely order it again if I drop by KFC the next time.

Wendy's, Sunway Pyramid

On Halloween Day, I went for SCREAM in Sunway Lagoong Elephant walk. Upon reaching Sunway Pyramid I went around to look for dinner. I opted to have fast food since I don't want to waste to much money and time. I haven't try Wendy's before, so it is the best choice of fast food of course comparing with McDonald's and Carl's Junior which also have outlet in Sunway Pyramid.

The choices of combo and side dishes.

With so many choices it's really kinda hard for me to make a decision. Since, beef burger is kind of common in Malaysia, so I opted for the Shrimp Supreme Combo and a bowl of Chili just to fill up my stomach lol.

3 sizes that you can choose from.

I opted for small combo because Wendy's does not server Coke Light, I don't like drinking to much normal Coke and also I will be ordering a bowl of Chili too.

My bowl of Chili.

The Chili in Wendy's is absolutely marvelous. Generous portion of beans and minced beef in the Chili. The taste is great too as what a chili should be, I meant comparing it with the chili you order from Chili's, I didn't go to Mexico and tasted the genuine one before. For only RM 4.99 ++, I say, it's value for money, for light eater, a bowl of this can fill you up.

Fat fries

The french fries here, I'll have to say beat McDonald's. While it's crispy in the outside, there's still potato filling inside because the fries here is thicker than what you get in McDonald's. So you won't be eating air after biting into the crispy outer layer. It's also not too salty as with McDonald's. Two thumbs up for the fries here.

The wrapping of the burger reminds me of aluminum foil.

The Shrimp Suppreme

It's kind of disappointing, it look just so simple, a piece of lettuce, some mayonnaise and that's it. I like the bun though, it's kind of like that same bun you find in Chicken McSpicy. The taste is like eating fillet-o-fish, except there's a bit of shrimp taste in it. It might be a nice alternative from beef or chicken but nothing to wow about.

Shrimp or fish?

As for dessert, at first I thought I want to order Oreo Twisted Frost, which suspiciously look so much like Oreo McFlurry. Well, I guess it's because both franchises are owned by Vincent Tan so there will be some similarity. After downing the Chili, my won't be able to fit in the Twisted Frost. So, I walk to Pyramid 2 to go to Sunway Lagoon entrance and I bump into a donut shop that I also haven't try since their opening.

It's J.Co Donut & Coffee, Malaysia of course.

I just bought a piece of original glaze. Tasted not bad, a bit too oily though. I'm not much of a donut fan to be honest.

Mos Burger & Pepper Lunch

The second day in Singapore. My sister is going for a routine check up in Gleneagles Hospital, so we took a taxi there from her place near Simei. Her examination will takes about 2 hours. I didn't wait for her and took a bus down to Ochard Road.

At first, I plan to stop at Takashimaya but I'm not too familiar with the bus stop in Ochard Road, I stopped at one or two stop before Takashimaya, which is Isetan Scotts. Time is around 11.30 p.m. and I eat breakfast. I went inside Isetan Scotts to look for food. There's a McCafe there but I don't think there's anything good to eat. Went to the lower ground floor and I found this.

Since MOS Burger is no longer available in Malaysia, so I think haven't a MOS burger is better than McD's. I went in and order a Unagi Rice burger. It's your normal grilled unagi with the Japanese sauce and shredded seaweed clamped by the rice pieces. You'll have to wait for your order to come because I think they will only make it when you order. That's why I got a No.2. The burger arrived still warm. It only cost $ 3.70 (RM 8.29). The unagi is so soft and juicy. The sauce tasted just right with the balance of saltiness and sweetness. Give me seaweed anytime. Yummy!

Warning on the wrapper

MOS Unagi Rice Burger

Of course, the burger is kind of small and will definitely not enough to satify my gluttony. Just happen to be opposite MOS Burger is this.

Pepper Lunch!

Another franchise that is not available in Malaysia. How can one resist the steak on that poster? Best of all, it is Monday and it's nearly 12.00 p.m. which entitled me for this promotion.

For only $ 9.90 (RM 22.10)you'll get a Pepper Steak (Normal Price $13.90 steak only), soft drink and rice. Pepper lunch uses selected New Zealand beef and their pepper is freshly grind every day. Only the skin of the peppercorn is used to make the pepper.

Since it's 5 minutes to 12 p.m. and the queue is not very long, I am qualified for this promotion that limited to 30 sets per day only. Monday is Pepper Steak. I made my order and the counter and pay. A tag number will be given to you.

My receipt. I'm tag no.9

I waited for about 10 minutes and my Pepper Steak arrived on a flaming hot teppan.

My Pepper Steak is cooking up smokes

You spread their special pepper butter on the steak and then let it cook until the right doneness you wanted and you pour the special sauce to cool down the teppan and stop cooking.

The way to cook a Pepper Steak

Special garlic sauce, special soya sauce and pepper

Checking the doneness

I like mine medium-well, so I let it cook a bit more and then pour the special garlic sauce.

My medium-welldone Pepper Steak

The steak is so tender and juicy. The sauce goes well with the steak. It's so good to eat with rice. The beansprout also very crunchy and fresh. Didn't know that a fast food steak can taste so good.

Pepper Lunch Logo

That's my brunch the second day in Singapore, a MOS Unagi Rice Burger and Pepper Steak from Pepper Lunch. Both are franchises that are not available in Malaysia. I am quite full already but in another 2 hours time later, I'll be eating again. That will be in the later post.

Hint: It's Japanese again and this time it's pork.
