Redeeming a free meal from Kenny Rogers with Bcard

Two weeks ago I got my Bcard. Why I got the Bcard? Well, it is to go and test it out in some of their merchant and then write about it. This is my experience using Bcard in Kenny Rogers.

So, last week, I went to Kenny Rogers to redeem a meal using the Bcard.

I ordered Cream Chicken Soup and a Dynasty Quarter Chicken meal. Only then I found out that now I can change the muffin with one more side dish. Nice.

When it's time to pay, I tell the staff that I want to use my points in my Bcard to redeem for the bill. The staff will swipe the card, then I'll enter the PIN. Yes this loyalty card comes with a PIN, which I think is very good because other people cannot redeem the points if I lost my card. After approval, the staff will key in the amount and the points will be deducted accordingly.

I forgot to use my 10% discount voucher T_T

And that is how I redeem my free meal from Kenny Rogers using the Bcard. You can sign up for a Bcard free of charge and start collecting points from the participating merchants too. Those participating merchants will have form in their outlet for you to sign up or better yet, sign up now here from one of their participating merchant. Who are the merchants? Click here. Starbucks is one of them too.

Speaking of Starbucks. I have a tip on how to utilize Starbucks Card and Bcard to get you more coffee. When you order in Starbucks, use your Starbucks Card. Do you know that you'll get a free Starbucks coffee after ten coffee you purchased with your Starbucks Card? Not only that, you can collect points using Bcard when you purchase Starbucks coffee using Starbucks Card. So, you'll get a cup of coffee free and also points to redeem.

By the way. Now is a good time to apply for a Bcard and starts collection points because you might win an all expense paid trip to London and other cool prizes.

"Don't forget to take part in the Bcard Swipe and Win contest from 2nd January 2012 to 29th February 2012 to win some cool prizes like an all expense trip to London!! Check it out on www.bcard.com.my for more details."

Little Thai Carnival at Jusco Metro Prima, Kepong Baru

Last week, while going to Jusco Metro Prima Shopping Center to shop for some groceries, it happen that there is a Little Thai Carnival going on there from 10th May 2011 till 9th June 2011. Located at ENEOS Center, there are kiosk selling clothes, shoes, handicraft and of course food from Thailand.

My only interest is the Thai food kiosk. The food kiosk is selling Thai food and snacks such as tom yam, Thai laksa, Somtham (Thai Green Mango Salad), Yam Wun Sen (Thai Seafood Salad), Mango Rice, Papprik Fried Rice, Thai Fried Rice, Spring Roll, Prawn Crackers, and Coconut. Each dish cost on RM5.

Some of the ingredients for Somtham (Thai Green Mango Salad)

Prawn Crakers, and Spring Roll

As for dessert, one can opt for Mango Rice. I was so tempted but I've already decided to order Somtham.

The Somtham will only be prepared when order is placed. The cook will ask if you want spicy or very spicy. I chose spicy which he then use one bird eye chilli to mix the Somtham. Very spicy, he'll use two bird eye chilis. Trust me, even the spicy version is already quite spicy. Those that can't eat spicy food at all will probably be better to order non-spicy version.

He will then starts to pound and mixes lime, raw long beans, tomato, fish sauce, bird eye chili, green mango, lime juice, peanuts, and sugar in a big ceramic mortar. When he finished with the pounding and mixing, he asked me to taste it. I told him not sour enough, so he add more lime juice.

I packed it home and eat it with other dishes as dinner. The somtham here is quite good, the portion is quiet big too for just RM5. If you happen to be in Jusco Metro Prima, do drop by to this Little Thai Carnival at Ground Floor in ENEOS Center. This carnival ends on 9th June 2011.

Seng Kee Fish Head Noodle, Kepong Village Mall, Bandar Manjalara, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur

Tesco Kepong Village Mall is now one of my favourite place to go for movie because I bought the MBO membership card that will allow me to purchase movie ticket through their kiosk. Also, RM1 discount per ticket. Of course the best part is that it is very near my place. So, I will also eat here quite often.

During CNY I came here with my cousin sisters Joyce and Jas to watch I Love Hong Kong. We then went to Seng Kee Fish Head Noodle in the mall to have dinner before the movie. What attracted me to Seng Kee is the Gold Ingot Rice (pork lard rice lah).

The pork lard or gold ingots are very crispy and nice of course. The bowl that is holding the steamed rice is a bit small though, hard for me to chow down the pork lard rice satisfyingly. Should have asked for a big bowl to eat the rice and lard.

I ordered Tom Yum Fish Head soup to go with my pork lard rice. The Tom Yum is not too bad. Enough oomph of sourness and spiciness.

My cousin sisters ordered Fish Head Meehoon which they says is kind of bland.

Too bad there's no other dishes that can go well with the pork lard rice, if not it will be nice. I also order fried nam yue minced pork balls as a side. Quite yummy this one.

Pricing here is a bit more pricey than what you'll get outside. The fish head meehoon is about RM8.50 if not mistaken.

Michaelangelo's, Solaris Mont Kiara

Simon Says: I'll be going for Arthur Kopit's Oh Dad, Poor Dad tomorrow night. Anyone joining me?

I just remembered that I haven't post about Michaelangelo's after I read Hitomi's take on it. So, now here's my post. Let's start off with my favourite stout nowadays. Guiness Draught. Yummy.

I've shown you these tools before.

Yes, the tools are meant for us to eat escargots. Michaelangelo's version doesn't use cheese or cream. They use olive oil, garlic and herbs. We both found the escargots a bit too salty. I personally still prefer cheese or garlic sauce with the escargots.

Rating: 2.5/5

The lamb rack is of the dish in their promotion of giving a free house wine for each dish ordered from the promotion menu. So, for the free wine we ordered lamb rack. They recommended white wine to goes with the lamb.

Free house wine.

The portion is not very big. We got two lamb racks. It taste not bad.

Medium is the done-ness.

Rating: 3.5/5

A hit and a miss here. Will come back for some other food they offered here next time.

Playing with my escargot tool.

Of course the night doesn't end there. We still have room for dessert. Off we go to Honey Moon, Kepong.

I ordered Azuki Bean Black Grass Jelly (RM 5), I added one scoop of ice-cream to eat. I forgot how much is the extra charge for the ice-cream :p It taste not too bad.

Rating: 3.5/5

Our favourite of the night is Hitomi's choice of Sweet Memory which is purple glutinous rice ball and durian meat roll in to ball in milk. Recommended for durian lover.

Rating: 4/5

I can't help but think of something else when I look at the mascot of Honeymoon lol. What do you think of it?

After the dessert, we went to Desa Park City where Hitomi parked her car for a walk and some night photography before we call it a night.

Japanese Curry Rice from Pasar Malam

Two weeks ago on a lazy Saturday night, I was at home (too tire to go out, been going out from Wednesday to Friday) catching up on TVB drama series. Then it was dinner time, I know that the nearby taman, Taman Sri Bintang got pasar malam (night market) every Saturday evening. So, I drove there to get my dinner to be pack home so that I can watch TV while eating lol.

As I walk towards the pasar malam, I noticed the make shift stall that is on a small lorry. The stall is selling Japanese food. There's no sashimi of course. There's Japanese chicken curry rice, Japanese prawn curry rice and assorted tempura. RM 4.50 for Japanese chicken curry rice is a bargain compared to when you it in Japanese restaurant. One on the go please :p

I then walk for awhile in the pasar malam to see what's there to offer. I bought a few sticks of fried stuff and two dust removing cloth (RM 10 for two and works very well in removing dust from TV and other stuff).

The Japanese chicken curry rice do taste authentic like what you will find in Japanese restaurant. Also given is a small portion of sliced cabbage with Japanese mayonaise. I can do with a larger portion of the salad. The only down side is that they don't sell Japanese pork curry rice. Which will be using buta katsu instead of tori katsu. Nevertheless, it's still very appetizing.

Rating: 3.5/5

I was already quite full after eating the curry rice but I still have a few sticks of fried stuff to finish. Well, no choice. I'll start with my favourite, fried chicken backside ;) (those with heart problem please don't try this at home) Now I know why my blood pressure is at so high when I checked in the clinic a few days ago. Sigh, no more buttock for me.

Next one on the list is fried sotong (squid). They only use the tentacles part. Crunchy.

After the squid, I am really very full. So, I saved the fried dried tofu and fried fu chuk for supper.

It's really fun to go to pasar malam and hit on the food there once in a while. You might find some interesting food there.

Kepong Food Crawl

Simon Says: It's the first week of the month again. This means Time Out KL: Comedy Thursday Night is on the 5th of Feb 2009. Remember to get your discount voucher here.

This happened about a month ago. Yes, I was busy. I remember that I was going to take a short nap at about 8 p.m. I checked my mobile and saw a missed call from WMW. I called her and she asked me whether I know about Sen Kee Satay in Taman Desa Jaya. I don't quite know the name Taman Desa Jaya but I know there's an area we call Desa Jaya in between Kepong and Selayang. She then asked whether I am intrested in a food crawl in Kepong. I of course said yes. Even though I have limited money in my wallet lol.

So, I drove to Carrefour Kepong where WMW is waiting for me. Took me 20 minutes, normally only 5 minutes from my place. It was a Saturday so there's many people shopping. Once I get on WMW's car, I was greeted by a very hungry CityGal. Then Jason show me a street directory which is almost 5 year old. Metro Prima was not even there yet. -_- Once he pointed out our destination, I already know where's the place is at. So, I navigated them to Taman Desa Jaya. You can read how it all begin here.

First stop, Seng Kee Duck Satay. I've been living near Kepong for more than 20 years and I don't know about this place. What a shame.

They used to sell pork satay too but now it's replaced with lamb.

We ordered 10 sticks of satay for each of us, which is 40 sticks. CityGal tapao another 10 for KampungBoy and WMW also tapao another 20 sticks.

The staffs diligently preparing our duck satay.

The satay sauce is very creamy and peanut-ty.

Alas, the yummy duck satay with the side dishes of onion and cucumber. The texture of the duck meat is harder than chicken but softer than lamb. It doesn't have the gamey taste that duck has. It doesn't taste like roast duck, it's more like a kebab. At first, I only planned to have 5 sticks due to budget constraint but alas I can't deny such a temptalicious affair. I had 10 sticks instead.

Next stop, I recommended Gou Lou Chao Fun (Tall Man Fried Noodle) that I tasted a few years ago, which I think is not too bad. I warned them that we might have to wait very long though. Located along Jalan Kepong Besar, this restaurant has been serving the residents of Kepong for almost more than 25 years.

The restaurant is called Seng Yuen but the locals call it Gou Lou Chao Fun.

The noodles are cooked by this uncle alone, hence the long wait.

I ordered Hokkien Char (hor fun and mee, some might think it's weird but this is how I like it), Cantonese fried Ying Yong, and Loh Mee.

Hokkien Cha

After an hour long wait, our noodles finally arrived. Not sure whether it's because there's too many customers hence a drop in the quality. As, WMW put it, there's not enough wok hei and the lack of pork lark.

The Cantonese Fried Ying Yong tasted quite bland but WMW say it's ok for her. Maybe, I'm more towards the heavy tasting side lol.

Cantonese Fried Ying Yong

Sigh. Quite disappointing. It's not what I've tasted before. The disappointment doesn't stop there. The Loh Mee I ordered turned into Yee Mee instead. -__-

Afraid of waiting for another hour, we gladly took the Yee Mee. Not too bad the Yee Mee but it's never my plate of noodle.

Overall Rating: 3/5

Mun Yee Mee

Our disappointment ends when the pork lard that we ordered arrived at our table. Pork lard saves the day. Woot!

Trust me, it's not enough for the four of us.

It's almost 12 midnight when we reached our last stop for dessert. We passed by Tim Pun Gor Gor when we started our journey from Carrefour. Since my car parked in Carrefour, we make it out last stop of the night.

Since I only left RM 3 in my wallet, so I ordered one of the cheapest dessert sold here. Almond Sweet Soup + Red Bean + lotus seeds, RM 3 for a small bowl. It's a quite interesting mix. Never did I know that almond can taste so well with red bean. Yummy and fulfilling.

Rating: 3.75/5

Sweet Soup + Red Bean + lotus seeds

CityGal ordered Black Sesame sweet soup + Almond sweet soup, RM 3 for small bowl. Hence the colours are black and white. Read her review here.

Black Sesame sweet soup + Almond sweet soup

Jason and WMW shared on of the most expensive yet nicest dessert here. The mango with noodles (RM 7.50). The noodles is actually coconut jelly shaped like hor fun (rice noodle). The 'noodles' are really refreshing and smooth. Blended very well with the mango. Next time will come back to eat one bowl.

Rating: 4/5

Mango with noodles.

Why is CityGal laughing?

Well, the staff there speak some very Hong Kong style Cantonese. The waiter told us that they need to 'ta yong' (means closing time) instead of 'san moon'. WMW which is not very well verse in traditional way of speaking don't get he waiter, hence created a very funny scene.

And we end the night of food crawl in Kepong here. Ah, such fun going on food crawl with fellow foodies. It's been a long while that I haven't done that. I wasn't even a blogger yet in my first food crawl. Total damage for the night is RM 15. Not too bad. That's all I have in my wallet lol.
