What Did I Learn From Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 Kuala Lumpur

I just got back from Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 Kuala Lumpur. Not gonna blog about how it went and all that. I'll just summarized what I learned and took back with me from all the Master Classes.

1. Time management is important in blogging. If you are serious into getting readers. Make something like a Editorial Calendar to scheduled what you'll post in a week or even in a month.

Kenwooi.com, Chee Wah, and KY

2. Frequent updates is advisable for getting readers to come back to your blog, so that they can expect a few posts in a week but quality of the content must be good and not just blog something that is not really good as a filler. Like, Kenwooi, he'll put his not so good post during the weekend when not many people reads blog.

Huai Bin and Hui Wen

3. All of the top bloggers state that your blog is about you yourself. Don't blog for anyone. You must be true to yourself and blog honestly. If you lie in your blog, sooner or later someone will find out, which will hurt your credibility in the end.

Eric Cruz, Firdaus, and Lionel

4. Blog design 101 - Auto play music in a blog is a definite NO-NO. It's just plain annoying. A Font is a cookie cutter and a typeface is cookie. Go Google it if you want to go into detail about the different between font and typeface.

Vivy Yusof and Beautiful Nara

5. Have a simple and easy to remember blog name or blog URL. Design a logo or make a recognizable header. Last but not least having a unique tagline is important for your blog's branding.

Carlos Nizam and Sue Anna Joe

6. Learned some basic photography skill and the basic rules of capturing a good picture before you go and bend the rules. Investing in a good camera do help to up your game in blogging or vlogging.

Xia Xue

7. Find out why you blog in the first place and what you're passionate to blog about. It might be food, cooking, traveling, your personal life or even camel. Blog something that relates to you and others. Oh, please blame Lionel from Ripplewerkz if XiaXue.sg is not moved to Wordpress yet in a few months time =P

Premesh, Timothy Tiah and Kenny Sia

8. Timothy told us that when he login to his secret Nuffnang Control Panel that only him and Boss Ming have access to, he sees that social media platform like Twitter and Facebook didn't pulled down the traffic in blogs but helped to increased the traffic because it shows 30-40% of the traffic is referral from Twitter or Facebook. So, blog is still relevant in Malaysia blogosphere. Some of the top type of blogs in Malaysia are, food blog, entertainment blog and personal/lifestyle blog.

Ernest and Maria

9. Using a different way of blogging will help to boost your readership. For example, doing a vlogging and post on YouTube and post it in your blog post instead of only writing it in words. Draw comics instead of telling your story in words. Utilize other social media platform such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Pininterest to link it back to your blog.

You mean like this?

10. Last but not least. Nuffnang will be launching the New Nuffnang soon!

Beyond The Still: A Short Film by Visual Story

From the first time I met Nigel Sia, I come to know that he can take very good photos with his Canon DSLR camera. He then moved on to do videos. He is very nice to helped me on my Rihanna's Umbrella video 2 years ago when I have to do it for an advertorial. I know nuts about video editing then. He quit his job and is now a full time freelance photographer and videographer. Some of the wedding videos he and his friends shot are very good, might even gives Kidd Chan a run for his money :p (just kidding). If you are getting marry and haven't get photo/video arrangement yet for you wedding day and dinner, you can starts by looking at Visual Story.

Recently he shot this short film "Beyond The Still" with Joshua Ong, Ren, and Joshua Wong. This short film was shot using solely Canon DSLR cameras. I will say, it's actually very good. Maybe not a Wong Fu Productions yet but given time, these guys could be our very own local version of Phil, Ted and Wes.

Do go watch it in YouTube so that you can like this video. I'll save it and watch it again on the Nokia E7 that can play HD video, my laptop's screen just won't do justice to this short film. Also, they made it to the final selection for The Star In.Tech competition.

Please help vote for Team: Visual Story here if you think that this video is good.

By the way, these are some of the behind the scene photos shot by Jason Lioh.

After looking at the gorgeous girl video, maybe I should buy a Canon DSLR, since my Panasonic Lumix Digital Camera was stolen when I was in Hong Kong :p

P.S. Remember to vote for Team Visual Story here.

SML Volatile 1st Heat in iStyle Fashion KLIA 2010

6 teams from 5 different fashion designing academy are going to compete with each other on iStyle Fashion KLIA 2010. I'll be rooting for Team SML Volatile. On the first heat of the competition, "BeAccerized". The teams were given an one hour time frame to do accessories selection at participating outlets at KLIA within an one hour given time frame. Teams need to go to Eclipse, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to look for apparel. Each team was given a female model profile base on number drawing lots. And the team that picked the first number get to select their apparel first. SML Volatile were second. The teams were all given a choice to select a complete garment plus one (1) accessories, which does not include shoes or handbags.

After getting the accessories and apparel that they wanted. Team SML Volatile started to discuss and work out their strategy on the 1st heat. Oh, while they have to complete task for the 1st Heat, they have an additional task to work on which is the Malaysia Airport Front liner Attire. Both of it have to be submitted by Friday noon, 29th October 2010.

Churp Churp, We Go Fly Kite

After the Nuffnang Glitterati Plus Open Meeting, we all break for lunch. Food is not hard to fine at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus because there's three rows of shop lots cater to that. There's Starbucks, Wong Kok, Face to Face, and Subway. I can seee Oldtown under renovation. I would have thought this is a shopping center if not for the lecture theater.

At about 2.30pm we then joined other Churpers for the Churp Churp Fly Kite activity.

Wheee!! Jessica having fun.

Serge trying out my Batty Kite.

Some of the Churpers did very well in flying the kite.

I was able to fly my Batty up high too for 3 or 4 times. Each did not last longer than 5 minutes. The wind is not good in Taylor's Lakeside.

Yeah my Batty flying high.

Guess who is flying it?

It's Boss Stewie. He had so much fun playing with the kites.

The wind improved and there's four or more kites that made it up.

My face was red because of the sun. Lucky I applied sunblock if not I would have get sunburn.

Nicole and Yi Wern said that I looked like I was drunk with my face so red and hair untidy. WTFLOL.

All Churpers that came are also bloggers, hence each have a camera in hand or on lap :p Congrats on the new domain Jackie ;)

The Chua sisters forced Joshua Law (birthday boy on that day) to make a video on kite flying.

I had lot of fun that day. I was like a kid again running here and there like sorhai LOL to fly my Batty. So, Churp Churp not only let you earn some side income utilizing Twitter and Facebook but also organized fun activity such as this. It's worthwhile that the next day I had muscle pain on my back and shoulder. The lack of exercise is so obvious.
