Nagomi Shabu-Shabu, Menara Hap Seng

VKeong invited some of us bloggers to a 50% food tasting session in Nagomi Shabu-Shabu in Menara Hap Seng not too long ago. This is dinner before A Night In Rome.

It's good that the party and dinner venue is so near to each other, and best of all, I get free parking from Nagomi.

Signed my name at the registration.

These are the sides that come with the set if you order a shabu-shabu set.

I asked Chimp to come along and she asked Irsaf to come along too lol.

Seating on the same table is Wilson, Rachel and Rebecca.

After browsing the menu, I decided to have a Duck Meat Shabu-shabu set and a Sake Ikura Temaki (Salmon and Salmon Roe Hand Roll Sushi). The hand roll is nothing to shout about. I always like salmon roe. The salmon and roe is fresh and because the hand roll is only made when you order so that nori (seaweed) is still crunchy. Not too bad.

Rating 3.5/5

The duck meat set comes with slices of thin duck meat, and in the center there's the minced duck meat with an egg in the middle. The staff there will help you mix the egg with the minced meat in to duck meat balls. The raw egg is to make it smoother of course.

This is the first time I am eating in Nagomi Shabu-Shabu and the first time to eat duck this way. As I mentioned, a set comes also with vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, glass noodle, and a bowl of white rice.

First, put in the vegetables to the broth to make it more flavourable. By the way, one can chose between the Nagomi broth or chicken broth. For duck meat, chicken broth was recommended.

Taking a slice of duck meat, I swish and I swash. Just about 3 count, and it will be cook because it is sliced very thinly. One can choose to dip it into the three sauces provided, sesame, soya or chili. The chili is created for local flavour because in Japan there won't be chili sauce provided. I found that the duck meat don't have the gamey taste that one usually found in roast duck. The meat is more springy than chicken. I love the minced duck meat ball.

Taking the opportunity of the 50% discount. Our group decided to order an extra order of a la carte Kobe beef. Normal price is RM 125++, after discount it's RM 62.5. There's about 10 slices of Kobe beef. There's 5 of us, so each of us get 2 slices. This is the first time I try Kobe beef too. 1,2,3 and that's all to cook the beef. Overcooking it is not recommended. I found it to be more tender than normal beef and easily melt in my mouth. Next time, I will surely try grill one because grilling will make the fat of the Kobe beef more aromatic.

Kobe Beef

In Nagomi Shabu-Shabu, they also serve sashimi and sushi. Sheryl order a sashimi moriawase (assorted sashimi) rather than a shabu-shabu set. She like the butter fish most.

Salmon, Tuna and Butter Fish.

That night is not only to eat but there's demonstration from the chef on how to make sushi and cut a trout salmon.

I have the urge to grab this piece and run. LOL.

The last step of eating Shabu-Shabu is to put the bowl of white rice and cook it in the broth. I should have ask for an egg to add inside, to make it into porridge but alas I was already quite full.

Thank you Nagomi Shabu-Shabu for this wonderful session. Also thank you for your concern on my health.
