Kazokutei (家族亭) at Tokyo Walker, Plaza Singapura, Singapore

Following another recommendation from Nic, I made my way to Plaza Singapura and went up to 4th floor to look for Tokyo Walker. The concept here is similar to Itadakimasu in Parco Millenia Walk, grouping a few Japanese restaurant in the same area. The different here is that most of the Japanese concept restaurants in Tokyo Walker seems to be part of Ajisen Group.

Tired of eating tonkatsu or ramen, I opted for the specialty restaurant in handmade udon, Kazokutei

In the menu here there are explanation on the origins of udon and there are a few ways to prepare the udon. Traditionally there are two method, the Kokudashi Udon(Eastern Flavour) and the (Western Flavour). Dried bonito is used to make the soup for Eastern Flavour Udon while Western Flavour prefer to use konbu (sea tangle).

Surprisingly I opted for neither of the flavour, instead I ordered a Wagyu Beef Shabu Shabu set (SGD $14.80++) that comes with udon cooked in boiled water. Yupe. Just boiled water. So that I can taste the natural taste of the wheat in the udon.

Shabu shabu set comes with a pot of broth that's filled with cabbages, enoki, shitake, tofu and Japanese leek. This will gives a natural sweetness to the broth. There is of course a burner under the pot to keep it hot so that I can swish and swash my wagyu beef slice until the done-ness that I like.

What I do is just count 1,2,3 and dipped the wagyu slice into the goma (sesame) sauce and put it into my mouth. It's food orgasm. How I wish I have the budget to order extra portion for the wagyu slice.

Of course the main star here is the handmade udon. Served in a bamboo bucket in hot water. I tried the udon first without dipping it into the soya broth given. Honestly, I am not a udon person because the udon that I had tasted always turned out very soggy but the udon here is quite springy and you can almost taste the freshness of the wheat used to make it. This udon, I like.

Dipping the udon into the soya broth will gives it a new level of taste. Both way also I don't mind, so one mouth with the dipping then the second without the dipping. It's a very good meal of udon and wagyu beef for just SGD $14.80. I wondered whether I can get it here in Malaysia with that kind of price.

Rating: 4/5

I will sure come back to try more udon given the chance next time.

TRON: Legacy 3D in GSC Maxx

Thanks to Nuffnang and Glitterati Plus MY I got to watch special screening of Tron: Legacy 3D in GSC Maxx. GSC Maxx is actually the Imax cinema that is now taken over by GSC in Berjaya Times Square. I read that GSC added a dual projection to the cinema to improve the brightness of the film. This is the first time I watch a movie in an Imax cinema. It is one very big screen.

I have no recollection of whether I have watched TRON before. Even if I have watched it before I won't be able to understand the movie much because I will still be in primary school. Never mind if you haven't watch the first TRON before because much of explained in TRON: Legacy.

Jeff Bridges reprises is role of Kevin Flynn whom created a virtual cyberspace which he was able to travel to and was trapped in there for 20 years. So, you be able to see an older Kevin Flynn. It will be a different thing for Kevin's clone Clu which have not aged at all because Clu is a program created by Kevin to help him run the virtual world. Using the same technology that was used in The Curious Case of Benjamin Franklin, they made Jeff Bridges looked like what he looks like 20 years ago. Yes, Clu is acted by Jeff Bridges only in the post production they make his face younger.

The visual of the virtual world is stunning, even more so when watched in such a huge screen in GSC Maxx. I like the disc fight scene which is quite cool but found the way that they called out the motorcycle is a bit lame :p

Story wise it's not too bad but don't expect much of it. This movie is to go for the visual effect and to be wow in the virtual world of TRON. Starring Jeff Bridges, Garett Hedlund, Oliver Wilde and Bruce Broxleitner.

Rating: 7.5/10

Kronenbourg 1664 Launch at The Hill

We all know France is famous for good wines and champagne. Only after going to the launching of Kronenbourg 1664 that I know that the French also brew beer. The launching was at The Hill, Damansara Heights. It's a new bistro and restaurant near Jarrod & Rawlins and The Courtyard in Damansara Heights but at a higher slope.

Beautiful girl serving us beautiful beer.

Kronenbourg 1664 is brought in by Carlsberg Malaysia. The first half of the event we all tried the bottle version. I might say, it's very nice. I didn't know French beer and be as good as those beer country like Belgium and German.

There's also very nice finger foods like oysters, salmon croissant, duck liver pate and calamari.

Nicole
and Casey were there very early and they already drank a few bottles of Kronenbourg 1664.

This is the launching of a French beer, so the theme that night is of course of all things French.

More food to go with the beer.

I will say Kronenbourg 1664 tasted a bit fruity that is quite easy to drink. The ladies will like this beer. I've already down my 4th bottle before they start to serve the Kronenbourg 1664 Draught.

Later I bumped into Ah Bok, Esther, Louise and Emeryn when I went to the 1st floor to get the masquerade mask.

Esther

Emeryn

Alas, I got the Kronenbourg 1664 Draught

Louise is happy to get her Kronenbourg 1664 Draught too.

Too bad I have to rush to a movie screening and can't stay long. Well, I've had enough to drink. Kronenbourg 1664 is sure one nice beer, I won't mind ordering it if the restaurant I eat at is serving it.

Souvenir, which left only the box now :p
