I've watched Resident Evil: AfterLife twice. The first time I watched it in 3D and normal for the second. To me the normal version look kind of flat. RE: AfterLife was shot using James Cameron's Phantom 3D camera that he used to shoot Avatar. So, this is the second film to be using the same 3D technology as Avatar. Which, should be watch in 3D.
Milla Jovovich is back as the leading actress for this fourth installment of the video game based zombie movie. Other than the superb 3D effect, she's the other reason that anyone would want to watch RE: AfterLife.
The story continues from the previous installment, Resident Evil: Appocalypes, where Alice (Milla Jovovich) settled her unfinished business with the Umbrella Corps before continuing her journey to Arcadia in Alaska to find Claire (Ali Larter) and K-Mart. (says to be a safe sanctuary from the T-virus infection).
Claire Redfield and Alice.
Alice found her way to Alaska and only to found that there's no one there. Something is wrong there...
Joining the cast for the first time is Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller (Prison Break)). For those of you that didn't play Resident Evil or Bio Hazard, Chris Redfield is the first male character in the 1st installment of the video game and he only appeared in the 4th installment of the movie. You would have guess that Chris and Claire are related here. Oh, it is kind of ironic that they find Chris locked up in a prison lol.
My favourite fight scene in the movie is where Alice and Claire has to fight off The Executioner (it is one of the new zombie mob found in the latest Resident Evil 5 video game). And boy, one have to watch this scene in 3D to appreciate the superb 3D effect done using the Phantom 3D camera. Just watching the big ass axe swinging your way is out of this world.
The plot in this movie is the simplest of all the 4 installments. So, if you are going for this movie for the story and plot, then you better stick with the previous three installments and stopped at Apocalypse.
Claire, Chris and Alice found their way to Arcadia.
Shawn Robert is Wesker, one of the top guy from Umbrella Corps which has T-virus injected to him. So he's very strong and fast. He's the villain of this installment. The fight scene is somewhat a bit too simple with him. I don't know why he reminded me of Agent Smith from Matrix.
Well, if you are planning to watch Resident Evil: AfterLife, I advise you to watch it in 3D because you'll waste your money if you watch it in 2D version.
Resident Evil: AfterLife opens on 10th September in Malaysia. Again, watch it in 3D or don't watch at all.
Rating: 9/10 for 3D and 6/10 for the plot/story
Oh, remember to stay back after a short credits run to take a look of a brainwashed Jill Valentine.
