Mak Man Kee Noodle (麥文記麵家), Hong Kong

After buying the CDs and comic in Mongkok, my cousin Elaine and I took the MTR to Jordan Station (exit C2) and make our way to Mak Man Kee Noodle House (麥文記麵家) in Parkes Street. Elaine told me that this is one of her favourite place for wanton mee and their nam yue pork trotters (南乳猪手) HKD 42 is very good too.

The noodle here is hand-made using just flour and eggs(including duck eggs)1. So, the noodle will be very springy, and indeed it is very springy once a bite into my order of prawn roe dry noodle (虾子捞麵) HKD 34. The prawn roe is very tasty too, very 鲜. But I heard that the prawn roe noodle in Macao is the more famous one. I'm not that picky, the one in Mak Man Kee is already very good, especially if I mix it with the nam yue sauce from the pork trotters. Yummy.

Rating: 4/5

Prawn Roe Noodle (虾子捞麵) with generous amount of prawn roe.

The Nam Yue Pork Trotters is a must order dish here. I see every table will have a bowl of pork trotters. True enough, the pork trotter is not too soft or too hard, you can feel the collagen is still intact yet not too fat. The nam yue sauce was absorbed by the pork knuckle and tasted just with the right saltiness from the nam yue.

Rating: 5/5

Elaine ordered a bowl of wanton noodle (細蓉) HKD 24. Which is not too bad, especially when the noodle is so springy.

Elaine also ordered a plate of boiled kau kei (勼己)without the oil and oyster sauce. Even without oil and oyster sauce, the kau kei is naturally sweet. Healthy and delicious, quite a difficult combination.

Rating: 4.5/5

Mak Man Kee Noodle House is one of the few shops that still uses the traditional hand-made method to make their noodle. So if you really want to try old school wanton noodle, this is one of the restaurant that you should visit. Their nam yue pork totters is also a dish to die for.

After such a simple yet wonderful dinner, we just walk a few steps to Australian Dairy Co. ( 澳洲牛奶公司) which is just beside Man Man Kee Noodle House to have dessert.

The dessert here of course is their famous steamed milk pudding (蛋白焞鲜牛奶) HKD 18. All I can say is that it's very milky. Not really a fan of milk but gotta try something new right when you're aboard. It's smooth and not too sweet. Not too bad really if you like milk.

Rating: 3.5/5

Elaine ordered steamed egg pudding (焞蛋) instead because she's lactose intolerance. Well, I tasted it and I can't really make a different between here and Yi Shun's.

Elaine can't finish her steamed egg pudding, so she gave it to me. I mixed it up and voila. I found the best combination.

Rating: 4.5/5

Looks like half-boiled egg lol.

Australia Dairy Co. is quite packed and I can't help but notice a lot of customer is eating macaroni in soup with ham (火腿通心粉) even during dinner time. Hong Kong people really has weird eating behaviour lol. It is advisable to come during non-peak hour if you don't want to be rushed when you're enjoying your meal here.
