Review

This is the second single released by Gigi Yim in 2024. For the first time in her MV she has got a love relationship with a male actor. This song is about long-distance relationship that didn't end well.

I think this is the first time Gigi has a typical Canto style ballad in her song list. She did very well in bringing out the emotions of this song in her singing. I teared a bit just 30 seconds into the song when I first heard it.

I love her ad lib as always. I would say this song will likely become very popular amongst the fans. Hopefully the Hong Kong radio stations will help to broadcast more of this song in the airwave.

Windy 詹天文 - 《大雕刻家 The Great Sculptor》

The Great Sculptor》, the second single from Windy Zhan is very different from her debut single 《沒有你的新學期》. This new song is more towards KPOP dance genre and it can be seen in the MV that Windy has a dance choreographed for this song.

This song is about when a human from being born till they grow up, many input and opinions sculpted by their parents, teachers, friends and etc. But the great sculptor should be themselves. No one can shape oneself other than themselves.

Kaitlyn 林君蓮《Why Are You Always Looking At Me》

This is a second song by the talented Kaitlyn Lam which not only composed the melody but wrote the lyrics too. This time the style is more to R&B which is a totally different style from her debut single N.F.T. which is to a more funk style.

From her interview during the making of this MV, Kaitlyn said that this song came up when she sees that many strangers looking at her in the street. Besides telling about strangers looking at her, she also said that it can be lovers or friends looking at each other.

I like the arrangement done by JNY Beatz and Kaitlyn is able to carry this chill R&B style. Looking forward to more of her creations in the future.

The latest song from Hong Kong up and coming female singer Yumi Chung. This song is a break from her three previous songs which were more on to dance track.

This song titled "The Next Summer Vacation" is about her daily life as student and singer. It also talks about her countdown to the high school exam in Hong Kong (DSE) that she will be facing next year in 2024.

The song has a kind of a LoFi and chill vibe giving me a kind of easy listening feel. I like the strumming of the guitar in this song. Yumi's vocal is different from her previous three songs and the range is at her sweet spot which is mid-high. Unlike "Wanna be close to U" or "Y2k is right for me?" which very high. Not to say that she couldn't hit the high notes, it is just that the high note is not the best for her voice.

Brief Look Through of Urbanscapes 2012

Just now I went to Urbanscapes 2012 for about an hour plus only because I have to work to be done at 5 pm. I reached at about 3 p.m. It took me a few wrong stop only to find out where is the main entrance and ticketing booths. The main entrance is near Armada Hotel. I parked at the back of Armada Hotel and there's a bridge that leads to Padang Astaka where Urbanscapes 2012 is being held.

This is the layout of Urbanscapes 2012. There are three stages. Green Stage is mostly for play and teatherical performance, The Next Stage is more on indie music, and Volkswagen Stage is the biggest stage that some of the well known singers will be performing. Yuna will be performing today at 10 pm and Sheila Majid will be performing at 7.30 pm tomorrow on Volkswagen Stage.

The rundown of activities and performance on each stage.

I started with the Volkswagen booth because it has cover, it was quite sunny while I was there.

I took part in the contest to count the number of balls inside the Polo Sedan. First prize is an iPod Touch, 2nd prize fly on a plane and view KL, and 3rd prize an iPod Shuffle.

How I wish I have enough money right now, Volkswagen is having year end sales. This Special Edition Golf TSI is selling at with a great discount, what's more this comes with premium specs like 17 inch rim, bi-xenon headlights, sunroof and etc. Previously, this specs will need to top up about RM 8K.

Next stop is of course food!

Fried stuff.

Dave's Deli serving their halal version of World's Best Sandwich, Beef Burgundy and Braised Lamb Shank.

Feeling hot? No worries, there are a lot of ice-cream booth around. Take the Last Polka for example.

Dessert stalls.

More food!

The naked chef?

My box of Soft Shell Crab Maki (RM12).

Don't forget to go the the Tune Talk booth to get yourself a free popcorn and cotton candy.

Tickets are available at the ticket booth there. I'll be coming back again tomorrow for the food and Sheila Majid of course. More info here.

Heineken Thirst Is Back!

It's the 4th quarter of the year, which means it's time for more parties and events. Don't let it stop! In a month time, Heineken Thirst - Malaysia’s leading electronic music festival - powers back to life on December 8 at Sepang International Circuit.

This year's line up:

Avicii

Justice

Above & Beyond

Gesaffelstein

Brodinski

Also will be there are our homegrown talents like Goldfish & Blink, LapSap, Mr Nasty & GuruGuru and Phil K Lee.

Of course, Heineken’s continuously evolving roll call of creative and collaborative talent doesn’t end with the music talent. This year promises to develop those themes ever further at a specially designed Heineken Thirst festival site featuring some of the latest innovations in creative technologies, digital landscaping and interactive collaborative installation pieces. In another Heineken Thirst exclusive, the festival will feature a huge sculptural centrepiece in the form of Robert James Buchholz’s Wish, fresh from its appearance at this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, a 17 metre high installation consisting of three LED lit flowers that pulse in time to the music.

Rukes

Add to that the presence of the world’s leading DJ celebrity snapper Rukes, the self-taught LA based photographer who tours the EDM festivals of the world with his lens and you have the recipe for a night of supercharged thrill-seeking and discovery on December 8 at Heineken Thirst, Malaysia’s leading electronic music festival.

Arthur's Day Celebration at Beer Factory

This year's Guinness Arthur's Day was celebrated in 3 different venues. Namely Souled Out, Laundry Bar and The Beer Factory. Each venue will have different singer. Since I wanted to see Justin Lo, so I chose to come to The Beer Factory in Sunway Giza.

I first bumped into Clover who was working part-time there.

After a while Chutipond was here too.

The first band on the stage.

Then one of my favourite band from the 6 bands they have, "Once Upon A Time There Was A Sausage Named Bob" continued to rock da house down.

In between break, I went to Arthur's Lounge to buy a Guinness duck beak cap and two Guinness chocolate bar.

Will Ng was up after "Once Upon A Time There Was A Sausage Named Bob". His singing was okay only.

Got the chance to take picture with the MC of the night. The gorgeous Stephinie Tan.

Finally, at 11.30 pm, Justin Lo went up on the stage. Started with a fast song of "决战二世祖"

He sang few songs until 12 midnight, and it's time to countdown for Arthur's Day one by one live in the three outlets.

To Arthur! And the party continued with almost endless flow of Guinness Draught.

Tiger Asian Music Festival 2012

I know I'm quite late in posting about this great concert that was attended by a 40,000 strong audience. Luckily I got to be in the VIP area thanks to Tiger and found some place to sit and breath easy. The best part is of course the free flow of Tiger beer all night long.

I was dressed for the occasion as in beach wear. So, a Hawaiian shirt will be very suitable. I had a bit of wardrobe change there because I got to get a LANSI T-shirt. So, I wore it on the spot.

Met Kate and Shannon.

Emily was my guest that night.

The concert opens with Beyond in the first performance. Brought me back to my primary school years.

Video here is Beyond's Wong Ka Keung and Paul Wong singing one of their hit song back in the 80s, "喜欢你". For more videos from Tiger AMF 2012, subscribe to my YouTube Channel.

Paul took off his shirt when it's time for his solo act.

He sang "Can't Bring Me Down" during his solo act.

It was a fun yet hot concert. Lucky the rain never did come down even though the sky is showing signs. Looking forward to another Tiger Asian Music Festival next year.

DEAR orange

Orange.

Rating: 4.5/5

Bianca Wu 胡琳 Jazz them up

I bought this CD "Bianca Wu 胡琳 Jazz them up. Bianca with the new york village jazz cat" from Rock Record yesterday. It cost me RM 75.90. I think it's worth every sens I paid for. Why? Well, the CD is of Analog Quality and is pressed on Silver Alloy disc by Japan Memory-Tech. Getting a bit lost with the technical terms? Oh well, I'm lost too until I played it on my car.

When I played the CD on my 7 year old car audio system, I'm still using the stock audio system. The quality of the sound is really very good. The normal CD that I played on my car never sounded so crispy clear before and the detail of each instrument is so solid. The drum, the guitar, the piano and of course the vocal. Imagine if I play the CD on a good hi-fi or vacuum tube system.

Bianca Lim 胡琳 has a vocal that can put most popular Hong Kong singers to shame. Her technique is also quite good. This album is a cover of the songs sang by the Four Heavenly Kings in the 90s. Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Leon Lai and Aaron Kwok. The songs were rearranged into pop jazz.

Once I listened to the AQCD, and then listen to MP3 format, the MP3 now sounds like crap. No matter how high the quality the MP3 is converted to, it still can't beat even a normal CD. Take AQCD into account, MP3 is just a convenient sake.

Some of the songs that is in this album.

Oh夜 (Leon Lai)

(Aaron Kwok)

(Andy Lau)

If you are in to high quality sound and is a Hi-Fi enthusiast, then this album is surely one that you will want on your collection. By the way, I am not a Hi-Fi enthusiast. The only devices I have to play CD is my car's CD player and laptop =P

Showcase & Autograph Session

If you watch YouTube a lot and are into the Chinese music scene, then most probably you'll know this girl called A-Fu 鄧福如. She got popular when she did a cover of Bruno Mars' "Nothing On You" and the video got viral and it's now got millions of view. Then some smart record company signed her up and released her debut album "原來如此".

So, when I heard from OneFm 88.1FM that she will be in town to promote her album in Sungai Wang 6pm yesterday, I of course have to go down there to have a look. Since I'm off shift on that day too. After collecting my birthday gift and contest prize which are 4 TGV Cinema passes and 2 TGV cinema passes from Nuffnang and Churp Churp respectively, I will then drive to Sungai Wang. I shouldn't have stopped by at Yut Kee for tea and roti babi.

I thought a drive from Dang Wangi to Bukit Bintang will know take me 5 minutes. How wrong was I. Once I got into Jalan Sultan Ismail from Dang Wangi, it's like a standstill. Took me about 40 minutes to reach there. Not only that, I didn't expect the showcase to start on time as from my experience, usually the artist will be late. Maybe A-Fu is a new comer so can't be late :p By the time I reach Sungai Wang lobby she's already half way singing her 3rd and last song "Just The Way You Are" another Bruno Mars cover that she posted on her YouTube Channel.

After that, OneFM DJ came out to chat a bit with her.

On from their conversation that she's been to Malaysia for 3 days already and that day is her last day in Malaysia.

She didn't wear her white Beats headphone that she's wore in some of her videos that day. But I saw a fan of her wore one when he went up to get her autograph. Beats headphone is not cheap yo!

Before the autograph session starts, there were a photo session for the 20 lucky winners from a radio contest to take picture with her.

After some more photo session for the media. It's time for the autograph session. I haven't had the chance to buy her album yet, so I bought it on the spot. It's only RM35, which is quite okay. So, I queued up to get her autograph :p I was also able to shook her hand and I saw that her left hand has some numbers and characters written with a blue pen. I shook her left hand because she's using her right hand to sign the CD.

Woot! I got her autograph.

The crowd is not exactly a lot of compared to most seasoned singer but for a new comer, this crowd is good enough. Not to mention the traffic jam that cause most fans didn't make it in time. Joshua is one of them.

After the autograph session was closed, there's this one fan that didn't get her autograph. He asked A-Fu whether she can autograph for him. She then came down from the stage to autograph the CDs for him. Damn lucky this guy.

Not the guy in white, he's EQ Music's director.

Lastly, he emcee asked A-Fu to put a big signature on the backdrop.

It's time to say goodbye!
