Margaret's Cafe e Nata, Macau

After 5 days in Hong Kong, I went to Macau for a 2 days trip before going back to Kuala Lumpur. The recent I visit Macau is mainly because my friend is working in Galaxy Macau and he has a place for me to stay so I can save on accommodation.

I was brought to Margaret's Cafe e Nata to eat their popular Portuguese egg tart. Actually I've eaten the egg tart here before when I was here for a day trip in March. This time I chose to eat in the cafe itself.

As usual the cafe is packed. Long queue of people packing away their Portuguese tart.

To really appreciate the true taste of their egg tarts, I suggest to eat it in the cafe instead of taking away. First, it will still be warm. Second, the skin will be crispier than take away and lastly the butter taste in the skin will still be strong. That is what makes the different, it's the butter taste in the Portuguese egg tart. Of course the soft creamy egg custard is also the reason. I found the egg tart taste way better than I last ate it (I packed the egg tarts last time).

I also ordered a cup of hot latte to go with the egg tarts. Ah, this is how one should enjoy their Portuguese egg tarts. I still haven't had the chance to try Lord Stow's Portuguese egg tarts though. Some say the latter is better but for me Margaret's Cafe e Nata's egg tarts is really very good. So if you visit Macau, trip both of the version and see which one you prefer ;)

Mille Crepe from Nadeje Patisserie Cafe

I've been reading about this piece of pastry called Mille Crepe a lot from blogs. In Klang Valley, one can get it from Food Foundry in Happy Mansion, Section 17 which is the same row as 6 to 10 Grill & Nasi Lemak. Oh, I read that 6 to 10 has shifted to Aman Suria, which is farther for me T_T

Most blog I read states that one of the best Mille Crepe is found in Malacca and not Klang Valley. Sigh, for me that rarely drive to outer state (due to my car is not serviced enough), going to Malacca will have to wait a year or two more lol.

Ah, a few weeks ago when I came back from work in the morning (graveyard shift mah), I saw this on the table.

Surprise, surprise. Apparently my cousin sister, Meng Kuan went to Malacca with her bf and she is so nice to tapaoed some Mille Crepe from Nadeje back for us. According to Jason Mumbles, at first the Mille Crepe in Nadeje is really superb and a year later, he went back and the quality deteriorated. I don't really know because I haven't even try Mille Crepe before this lol.

I chose to eat the original flavour. Of course, it won't be as good as eating it in the cafe itself but this will have to do for now. I like the texture of each thin layer that just melt away in my mouth once in contact my saliva.

I think it will be better if eaten not more than 2 hours after buying from the shop. The one I eaten was kept overnight in the freezer but still edible and not too bad. Well, I found out that the pioneer Mille Crepe baker from Nadeje is now making Mille Crepe for delivery in Johor Bahru, KL and Singapore. You can place your order through their website, Humble Beginnings. I read Joanne Peh's blog that even the Media Corp artist purposely ordered from JB during Ah Jie (Zoe Tay)'s Birthday (it's not available yet in Singapore at that time).

Now if I am craving for Mille Crepe, I don't have to go Malacca already, all I have to do is call one of the number here.

The Loaf, Pavilion KL

I've never patronized The Loaf in Pavilion KL before even though it's been more than a year there. Firstly, I'm not a big fan of pastry and secondly, the price of pastry in The Loaf is not actually cheap. Then two weeks ago I got myself to Pavilion to meet up with Zoe to get my long awaited Christmas present and also I invited her to go to the Phua Chu Kang Fans Gathering.

She asked me to wait at the fountain in front of Pavilion KL

There's still an hour to kill for the fans gathering to start and we're both a bit hungry. So, I recommended that we go try out The Loaf. Most of you would have know that The Loaf is owned by our beloved ex Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir. The first outlet started in Langkawi, and only recent years the branch started up in Kuala Lumpur.






I saw that there's a 50% promotion on one new item. Tomato Cheese Pastry. Selling for RM 4.80 per piece normally but now it's only RM 2.40 per piece. So I ordered 1 for me and 1 for Zoe. Very suitable for her because she's half vegetarian.






Zoe remembered my birthday was two days ago, and she insists of buying me belated birthday cake. Awww.. so nice of her. Happens that The Loaf doesnt make any cake. So, instead of having birthday cake, Zoe bought me half a dozen of cup cake like Mini U-Hu-Hu.

There's some hit and misses in the Mini U-Hu-Hu. We liked the Inspiring Fluffy, Glitzy Strawberries and Trickled Caramel. Inspiring Fluffy is like a cheesecake but with more eggy flavour than cheese. Glitzy Strawberries is like a strawberry moose cake. Last but not least Trickled Caramel is like a egg pudding with caramel sauce, which is the one we liked best. There are a lot more choices to choose from and the more you buy the cheaper it is.

The other pastries look very nice and delicious looking but the price is a bit stiff for a non-pastry fan like me. Those of you that like good bakery and pastries should drop by and have a look. Good news is, now The Loaf has branches in Empire Shopping Mall in Subang Jaya and also IOI Boulevard in Puchong. Don't have to drive all the way and brave the traffic to Kuala Lumpur city center anymore.
