onde onde, Waterfront Desa Park City

Back in July this year I went to onde onde in Waterfront Desa Park City to have their popular assam laksa. I bought a deal from I forgot which group buying site that give a special price for their assam laksa. Since DPC is just 5 minutes drive away from my place, it's quite obvious that I don't have to think twice about buying the deal.

onde onde is a little cozy self service restaurant. At the counter, I could see there are a few varieties of Nyoya kuih, which looks very appetizing. The recipe used here is based on the recipe from the owner, Paul Khong's mother Sally Teh whom hails from Mallacca. You can read more about their story here.

I also ordered their Nyoya otak-otak as a side, honestly a bowl of assam laksa is not enough for me. I liked the fact that their otak-otak is steamed instead of grilled because I think steaming retains the fish taste inside the otak-otak. Soft, creamy and full of fish and santan (coconut milk) flavour. A side that is worth a try if you come here.

The true gem came when I saw their assam laksa. It's so rich with flavour and ingredients. Their soup is thick that each scoop is filled with fish flakes, unlike some of the diluted soup found elsewhere. The balance of sourness and savouriness is just nice. A dash of prawn paste sauce in the laksa just made my day. I can say that this might be the one of best laksa found outside Penang or even wins some of the laksa in Penang. Highly recommended by me to try their assam laksa if every you drop by.

What I like about Waterfront Desa Park City is that after a nice warm meal in onde onde, I can go to have icy cold New Zealand Natural premium ice-cream a few shops away. ;)

This is a very back dated post. A few months back my sister and my brother-in-law were back in KL with Ruth and Noah. They are having dinner with some of their friends in Rakuzen Kitchen, Waterfront at Desa Park City. Which is only 5 minutes drive from my place.

As now seems like a norm with any Japanese restaurant managed by Super Dining Sdn. Bhd. next to it is a Shojikiya shop.

I was late because I finished work only at 8 p.m. they already almost finish their main. One of their friend ordered this...


Japanese rice wine



I was offered a glass. That's a plum inside. Added so that the wine won't taste too strong.

Wasted no time in browsing through the menu and I order a salad. Try to ahem, lose some weight which fail miserably, obviously.

The house salad dressing which is the same that you can find in Rakuzen, Pasta Zanmai and Sushi Zanmai. You can even buy it from Shojikiya.

Watashi no Sashimi no Sakusaku Sappari Salada (Sashimi Salad)

Consists of crab meat, raw salmon, raw white fish, lettuce and tomato. The salmon and the white fish are fresh but to the white fish is too fishy for my liking with a bit of skin still intact. The portion is quite big too to be eaten by myself. Overall still not a bad salad. Next time I'll order a small portion instead.

Green tea and chocolate mochi ice-cream.

I always like the skin made of glutinous rice which is quite chewy and eat it with cold ice-cream. Brings back my memory when I was still in primary school where I can buy two balls of mochi ice-cream with only RM 1.

Nope. My sis used to work in Krispy Kreme in UK, this is her lanyard that she now use to carry her apartment's tag in Singapore.

After the dinner, the bill was taken care by Jess, my sis' bff. We then walk around to explore the shops in Waterfront.

Remember I wrote a short post about Waterfront not long ago? Well, I went there again last Saturday and this time I brought my camera along.

One of my favourite ice-cream.

Desa Park City is just behind Bandar Manjalara, you can going to the guarded entrance at the roundabout that is going to exit to LDP. Don't worry about the guard, you don't have to stop and give your IC or license, just drive straight in. Go straight and turn left at the first turning, then straight until a small roundabout, take 9 o' clock. Go straight until you see bright lights and building on your right. That's where Waterfront @ Parkcity is at.

Shiojikiya 正直屋, and next to it is Rakuzen Kitchen.

So, it's not the full fledge Rakuzen, might be a toned down version. Too bad still not open for business yet when I was there.

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

At the back there's a nice man-made lake. Nice to come here to jog.

Another short post, just good to know that now I don't have to pay RM 1.60 toll to go to 1 Utama if I craved for Big Apple Donuts, don't have to look hard for parking if I want to eat good Japanese cuisine, can always come here for my fav ice-cream, and do some shopping for groceries in a supermarket ala Jusco style (hope they sell Hoegaarden here). In short, this place is like a mini 1 Utama closer to home. ;)

Waterfront @ Desa Park City

Yesterday night I went to check out Waterfront @ Desa Park City that I got to know from blurriehunnie. It's just 5 minutes drive from my house. There's a MaxValue supermarket which is owned by Aeon Co. Ltd (Owner of Jusco), which is very similar with any Jusco supermarket. This means you can use your Jusco Card in MaxValue.

There are a few eating outlets in operation already, namely BBQ Chicken, One Noodle, Secret Recipe, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Kluang Station, and Natural New Zealand Ice-cream. Still under renovation is Big Apple Donuts and of course Rakuzen. Yes, now I can eat good Japanese food with only 5 minutes drive away. Free parking and no traffic jam.

I don't have a camera with me so there's no picture. It was a spontanious thingy to go there. There's also a pet shop, myNews.com, bicylce shop, DIY shop, and 7-Eleven. The first floor is mostly beauty salon, hair salon, interior design, and music school.

The ambience there is really nice with a park at the back. Will surely hangout here more often after more shops open. Then I don't have to go all the way to The Curve for Big Apple Donut or Ikano for Kluang Station's coffee and Hainamese Chicken Chop.
