Economy Rice in Restoran Sin Hup Seng

It was a working Sunday. My colleague and I decided to drive down to Seapark for the Sunrise Roast Duck Rice for their famous roast duck (duh). We reached there about 1 p.m. and the place was packed and there were a few group of customers waiting for table. Since, we have to go back to work, so my colleague recommended to eat the economy rice at the other corner of the same row of shops as Sunrise.

The economy rice stall here have loads of dishes for one to choose. @_@

I have a hard time deciding what dishes to take with my rice. I saw the roast pork seems not too bad. So for me is roast pork, spinach and fu chuk. It's not the best roast pork but still very delicious. The spinach is young and fresh. A very fulfiling lunch for just RM 4 to RM 4.50.

Rating: 3.75/5

There is also free daily soup provided. The boss told us that customer come here not for the rice but the soup lol. He say he only buy the freshest fish and good quality vegetables. The daily soup that day is ABC soup. I didn't go and dig up the ingredients because I was already quite full. True enough the soup is quite flavourful rather than tasting like plain water like the economy rice in Pusat Bandar Damansara near my office. But it's not like what the boss exagerated about.

So if you're looking for value for money economy rice and variety of dish choices. You can surely try this one if you're nearby Seapark.

Nagomi Shabu-Shabu, Menara Hap Seng

VKeong invited some of us bloggers to a 50% food tasting session in Nagomi Shabu-Shabu in Menara Hap Seng not too long ago. This is dinner before A Night In Rome.

It's good that the party and dinner venue is so near to each other, and best of all, I get free parking from Nagomi.

Signed my name at the registration.

These are the sides that come with the set if you order a shabu-shabu set.

I asked Chimp to come along and she asked Irsaf to come along too lol.

Seating on the same table is Wilson, Rachel and Rebecca.

After browsing the menu, I decided to have a Duck Meat Shabu-shabu set and a Sake Ikura Temaki (Salmon and Salmon Roe Hand Roll Sushi). The hand roll is nothing to shout about. I always like salmon roe. The salmon and roe is fresh and because the hand roll is only made when you order so that nori (seaweed) is still crunchy. Not too bad.

Rating 3.5/5

The duck meat set comes with slices of thin duck meat, and in the center there's the minced duck meat with an egg in the middle. The staff there will help you mix the egg with the minced meat in to duck meat balls. The raw egg is to make it smoother of course.

This is the first time I am eating in Nagomi Shabu-Shabu and the first time to eat duck this way. As I mentioned, a set comes also with vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, glass noodle, and a bowl of white rice.

First, put in the vegetables to the broth to make it more flavourable. By the way, one can chose between the Nagomi broth or chicken broth. For duck meat, chicken broth was recommended.

Taking a slice of duck meat, I swish and I swash. Just about 3 count, and it will be cook because it is sliced very thinly. One can choose to dip it into the three sauces provided, sesame, soya or chili. The chili is created for local flavour because in Japan there won't be chili sauce provided. I found that the duck meat don't have the gamey taste that one usually found in roast duck. The meat is more springy than chicken. I love the minced duck meat ball.

Rating: 3.75/5

Taking the opportunity of the 50% discount. Our group decided to order an extra order of a la carte Kobe beef. Normal price is RM 125++, after discount it's RM 62.5. There's about 10 slices of Kobe beef. There's 5 of us, so each of us get 2 slices. This is the first time I try Kobe beef too. 1,2,3 and that's all to cook the beef. Overcooking it is not recommended. I found it to be more tender than normal beef and easily melt in my mouth. Next time, I will surely try grill one because grilling will make the fat of the Kobe beef more aromatic.

Rating: 3.8/5

Kobe Beef

In Nagomi Shabu-Shabu, they also serve sashimi and sushi. Sheryl order a sashimi moriawase (assorted sashimi) rather than a shabu-shabu set. She like the butter fish most.

Salmon, Tuna and Butter Fish.

That night is not only to eat but there's demonstration from the chef on how to make sushi and cut a trout salmon.

I have the urge to grab this piece and run. LOL.

The last step of eating Shabu-Shabu is to put the bowl of white rice and cook it in the broth. I should have ask for an egg to add inside, to make it into porridge but alas I was already quite full.

Thank you Nagomi Shabu-Shabu for this wonderful session. Also thank you for your concern on my health.

A Night In Rome

UEFA Cup Final is starting soon in Rome. I won't have chance to go to Rome or Krabi to watch the match like KY and Mellisa. Luckily, I got to go to A Night In Rome party to get a taste of Heineken Rome. I got to the venue, which is the Hap Seng Star showroom after my dinner at Nagomi Shabu Shabu at Menara Hap Seng (ah talk about coincidence). Will write about the dinner in the next post.

Besides free Heineken and cool music. That night, there's a hair show and lucky draw for an all expenses paid trip to Rome to watch the UEFA Cup 2009 Final.

The beautiful hostess, Marion.

We got Joey G spinning the wheel.

The hair show is sponsored by Redken.

KY showing his Heineken ID, which I don't know why I didn't get mine yet since we applied almost at the same time.

Endless buckets of Heineken thanks to Desmond.

Surrounded by Suanie, Steph, Ei Ling and Cindy.

Horng, will be in Krabi too watching the final. So nice.

I'll just imagine that I am in Rome by looking at this background.

Bumped into Cynthia too.

An event like this will be weird if you don't see Joyce there.

The night started and ends with Lap Sap spinning some cool club music.

Even though I won't be going to Rome or Krabi but it's good to enjoy Heineken with friends like Wilson here. Thank you Heineken and Nuffnang for inviting. Maybe next year I got to go somewhere exotic and watch the final.

Before the Penang Trip...

me and Huai Bin only have about a week's time to look for accommodation. What's better way to do it online. I found this website call HotelsCombined.com. From here, I can find hotels not only in Malaysia but also most city in the world like Bangkok and Singapore. Of course there's hotel in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Okay, so that's how we got our accomodation and booked a room in Cititel Penang. Internet made travelling so easy nowadays. We can book the flight online from MAS website, made hotel reservation and even book for tour bus if we wanted to.

Long Weekend Penang Trip - Day 3

Continued from the second day of me and Huai Bin in Penang, I wrote that my friend will be driving us around on Day 3 but she'll only be free after 4 p.m. and we have to check out from the hotel at 1p.m. Normally it's 12 p.m., we asked for an extension. So, we kept out luggage at the concierge first as we wanted to go for brunch.

We planned to go to Lorong Seratus Tahun for the curry mee that we missed the first day, char kuey teow by the lady in Lorong Selamat, and ice-kacang in New World Park. This time instead of taking the taxi, we took the thrisaw. We were tourist after all lol.

It's kind of cramp for me and Huai Bin to sit in one trishaw and both our weight added together is about 165 kg. So, you know that the uncle is very strong now to be able to pedal us.

It's quite fun to travel in the trishaw but I also felt it is quite a dangerous ride because every other vehicle around us is bigger and faster, and we're out in the open without any cover. Lucky it's not raining while we're on the ride. Want to take a feel of what it's look like riding a trishaw? You can play the video I took.

We reached safely at our destinaton or should I say the wrong destination. The uncle actually don't know where is Lorong Seratus Tahun, so he asked his friend and was told to go to Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Center but he took us to Sun Yat-Sen Base instead. There's two Sun Yat-Sen attraction in Penang. Luckily we were able to stopped the uncle again and tell him that he took us to the wrong place.

Managed to snap a picture before we go.

So, there we go again on the trishaw. After passing the road and building that we passed by, we made it to Lorong Seratus Tahun. The fee for the ride is RM 10.

Luckily it's still open when we reached. So now I can try the curry mee that I ate in Lorong Seratus Tahun in SS2 from the original stall. The curry mee here is different from the normal curry mee we always see. The soup here uses very little santan (coconut milk). It's not spicy at all if you don't add in their specially made chili paste that is on every table there. You more of it if you like it spicy. I usually put in three full spoons.

We ordered a small bowl with extra prawn that cost RM 5.50 per bowl. Besides fresh prawn, there's also blood cockles, sotong and pig blood (black pudding). Satisfying bowl of curry mee. I found that the taste here is about the same as in SS2. So, next time I can go to SS2 if I'm craving for Lorong Seratus Tahun curry mee and don't have to come to Penang. The quality is almost the same, just the price is different of course.

Rating: 4/5

After eating the curry mee as appetizer, we walked across the road and into Jalan Dato Keramat. I remembered Cheryl told me that Ah Leng char kueh teow is along this road. I called Kah Wheng and got the direction but alas, Ah Leng already closed. So, we took a taxi and go to Lorong Selamat.

Me and Huai Bin shared a plate of char kueh teow that cost us RM 8.50. I think this is the price for extra prawn. I at first mistaken this stall for sister char kueh teow, they put crab meat and prawn in their char kueh teow. While waiting for our char kueh teow (even though there's not many customer, still we have to wait for 30 minutes), a lady in the restaurant let us sample some of her pork floss. I found it to be quite nice, so I bought one.

The char kueh teow here also use some very big prawn. The taste here is a bit saltier than the one that we ate on the first day and the prawn is not as fresh. Ah, such a disappointment.

Rating: 2.75/5

While we were enjoying our char kueh teow, it was raining quite heavily. Luckily, it was only drizzling when we finished, so that we can walk to New World Park which is just a stone throw a way from Lorong Selamat. By the way, Tune Hotel, Penang is just next to New World Park.

I knew about the ice-kacang here after watching Ho Chak! Season 8 Episode 12. We ordered the ice-kacang special, which have 4 fruits and ice-cream. The 4 fruits is mango, banana, papaya and honey dew. On top of that, there's also kidney beans and and very firm jelly like thingy. I can say that this is one of the best ice-kacang that I've ever eaten. A must try if you're here. I also ordered the Tee Nya Kueh that Ah Yoon ate in the show.

The Tye Nyah Kueh don't have taste on it's own, it only have a mild pandan taste. It gets it's taste from the gula melaka. It's quite cooling and the taste is balanced well with the brown sugar.

Tye Nyah Kueh

My lovely bowl of ice-kacang.

After our brunch, we made our way back to the hotel and waited for Valerie to come and pick us up. At about 4.15 p.m. she arrived. Since, there's still time, I ask her to drive us to the Snake Temple which is quite near the Penang International Airport. The snake temple closes at 5 p.m. and we made it before it closes.

Snake Temple

The snakes are not in the temple but a room next to the temple. Due to development, the snakes here are near extinction. Huai Bin paid RM 30 to take picture with the snakes on him. They will print out the picture on the spot and give it to you. I don't think Pinky will ever pay money for this lol.

There's actually a snake farm next to the room. We paid RM 3 each for entrance fee instead of RM 5 by showing my MYKAD. There's about 15 different species of snake in the farm. There's also tortoise and monkey. There's one big tortoise that is already 65 year old, which is still very young for a tortoise. We also able to watch the python feeds on the chicken.

That day must be our lucky day because the person in charge there decided to add an extra snake show for the crowd there. The show was supposed to have ended already. We were shown the handling of Mangrove Snake, Cobra, and King Cobra. The snake handler told us that, the Mangrove is not very poisonous, it's venom will only cause pain within 45 minutes. Huai Bin asked whether he can get bitten by it and take medical leave the next day. Lukily, he was stopped by the lady owner, if not, we might not make it in time for the flight because we have to go to the hospital lol.

Handling the Mangrove Snake.

The King Cobra can grow longer than the Cobra that can only grow until 1 meter long. Hence the name King Cobra. The King Cobra's venom can kill a human within 15 minutes if no anti-venom is injected. Even though there's a nurse with us that day, I don't dare to stay close an get bitten by it.

The King Cobra.

For RM 3 each, we got ourselves quite an entertaining visit to the Snake Temple. Valerie drove us to Queensbay Mall (currently the biggest shopping mall in Penang) to have dinner. There's nothing special to eat, so we chose to eat in Dragon-i.

Xiao Long Bao, Drunken Chicken, Fried Prawn in Bean curd roll, and Crab with egg white.

Me and the Nurse.

After dinner, it's time to go to the airport to check in.

Huai Bin and I at the Penang International Airport showing our MAS boarding pass.

Take one more picture with Valerie before going back to Kuala Lumpur.

It's been a very interesting 3 days 2 nights in Penang, Malaysia. Domestic traveling can actually be fun too if you know what to look for. A long weekend like this is also a good time to grab the Weekend Special package from Malaysia Airlines.

Adios Penang, Hello Kuala Lumpur.

I'm a Standout in Life

How I standout in life? Well, I practically eat anything and dare to try food that normally people will shun away from. One of my favourite Malay delicacy is the goreng paru (cow lungs), which most people don't even know what paru is until I tell them.

Paru Goreng

I also like to eat gyutan yaki, Japanese grilled cow tongue. It can be eaten raw too. I once tried sup lidah, (cow tongue soup) in a nasi kandar restaurant in Bangsar. Not my favourite but still I dare to try while most will put the thought away.

Gyutan. Picture source here.

On a recent trip to Penang, I found a new favourite of this not many-people-dare-to-try-food, Sup Torpedo. For those that is not very familiar, sup torpedo actually is bull's private part soup. Yeah. From the comment I received, many will say gross, yuck and etc. This is just another food for me.

It's actually very long.

My serving.

One should try this kind of exotic delicacy at least once in a lifetime. If you really don't dare to try. I recommend that you down a few bottles of Tiger Beer first to make you bold lol. That's what I did before that, drank a few bottles of Tiger Beer. Not that I need it but it make that sup torpedo taste much nicer.

Downing my Tiger Beer.

Enjoying my sup torpedo.

Am I outstanding or what. I am outstanding among friends for daring to try food that normally normal people will not even think of seeing. If you think you have some very special talent or behaviour that really standout, why not join me at Standout with Tiger and Nuffnang party. Oh, by the way, the new Tiger Beer bottle design is real catchy. I caught my attention straight away when I saw it in the newspaper. See ya there, all you Standout peeps.

Long Weekend Penang Trip - Day 2

After a day of walking on the first day. The second day is a luxury for our feet because we don't have to walk too much. As, I've wrote in the end of my previous post, Cheryl and Kah Wheng drove us around Penang. It's like a Penang historical tour for Huai Bin and I. Sorry again for waking up late and made you both waited for so long. Pai seh :p

Once we pop on to Kah Wheng's car, Huai Bin and I were given two choices for lunch, Ah Leng Char Kueh Teow or Chicken Rice. Since, we already had CKT on the first day, so we decided to go with chicken rice. Sigh, now I regret the decision I made because I didn't know at that time that Ah Leng CKT is the one that you can opt to add mantis prawn to it. We were too late on the 3rd day to go and try T_T

Kah Wheng drove us to Kedai Kopi Thew Chik near Cititel for Goh Thew Chik Hainan Chicken Rice. You'll see two stalls in front. Both are the same stalls.

Well, to me a KL people that tasted some of the best chicken rice in KL. This one seems quite normal. The way they put the soya sauce with oil on the roasted chicken is more Cantonese KL style rather than Hainanese style. Real Hainanese doesn't put any soya sauce or any kind of sauce on the chicken. Nevertheless, it's not too bad. I especially like the springy chicken intestine.

Rating: 3/5

After filling up our stomach. Cheryl asked us what place we wanted to go. I told her I wanted to visit the Peranakan Mansion, which she thought was Cheong Fatt Tze mansion. We reached there around 12.45 p.m. the tour of the mansion already started at 11 a.m. so we have to wait for the next and last tour of the day which is at 3 p.m. We then made a detour to Fort Cornwallis to meet with Sir Francis Light.

Aye, aye sir.

We paid RM 3 each to the entrance fee. If you studied Malaysian history before you'll know that Sir Francis Light is the Mat Salleh from England that got the piece of land called Penang from the then Sultan of Kedah at around 1786 A.D.

Fort Cornwallis was then built to strengthen the defence of Penang's port because this is a very important port for trading of herb and spices. Thus what left here today are the cannons and bunkers. There were also some interesting artifact that were recovered from the archaeology excavation on display in the mini museum there.

After getting to know how Penang end up to be one of the three states in Penisular Malaysia without a Sultan. We drove to Khoo Kongsi next because there's still time before the 3 p.m. tour starts at Cheong Fatt Tze mansion. On the way, we made a short stop at the now most happening clubbing and dining place in Penang Island. QEII. I first heard the name when I went to Hennessy Artistry in The Loft. Only when I come here that I found out that QEII means Queen Elizabeth II because it's at Queen Elizabeth II pier. -_-

Nice view of the pier.

There's a marina here. Yatches owned by super rich?

There's nothing much here by day but Cheryl told me it'll be pack like sardine by night. It's nice to have candlelight dinner here too. A good place for dating.

A twist and a turn (actually quite a lot of turn) and we're end up in Khoo Kongsi. This is one of the oldest building for the Khoo clan . Those with the surname Khoo. Before this, I always thought Khoo Kongsi is some kind of olden days organized triad or something. Kongsi Gelap rings any bell. Only after reading an article in the newspaper that I know that it is an association for the people with the surname Khoo. Just like there's a Seow Kongsi, not really sure it's call a kongsi though.

From what I heard, some businessmen from Taiwan donated money to restore the Khoo Kongsi to it's previous glory. This place even won the award for the restoration project. From the floor plan, I see that this is a very big area with a lot of houses surrounding a temple in the middle. The main attraction is of course the temple itself. I bet most of the people that lived in those houses has a surname Khoo :p

There's two rooms beside the temple that has all the plagues inscripted with the name of a Khoo that made some achievement acadamically. There's doctors, lawyer, accountant and newer one like computer science graduates.

Khoo Kongsi became popular after Anna and the King came here to shoot to if not mistaken. You can get more of the history facts and FAQ in the official website. At the back of the temple, there were a few Chinese drawings. One of the drawings is named The Nine Old Men.

Oh, before we go in, we have to pay RM 5 per adult. It's not free, so prepare some cash if you want to visit Khoo Kongsi.

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion

It's almost 3 p.m. when we arrived at Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion again. Lucky there's not many tourist yet. The fee for the guided tour is RM 11 per person. There's one rule here is that, one cannot take photo of the interior, you can take all you one of the exterior. After we paid the fee, we were asked to wait inside the living room for the tour guide. Do you think Huai Bin and I can hold back and not to take pictures while inside? Of course not.

Alas, while Huai Bin got away with the picture taking, I got caught by the person in charge there while doing the act. Luckily I was not asked to delete the photos I've taken. From the tour, the guide will tell you the story of Cheong Fatt Tze, the original owner of this mansion and why is the mansion built the way it was. Mostly has something to do with Feng Shui.

We were told by the guide that the trishaws outside the mansion are actually props from the movie Indochine. The current owners of the mansion bought it from the production company after the movie was shot here. Seems like a lot of movie has been shot in Penang. I'm too lazy to write the whole story that the guide told us. Come here and listen for yourselft :p Oh, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion opens for home staying too but you'll have to book a month in advance because they only have 38 rooms. You can book it online through their website.

After visiting so many historical places, it's time pay respect to another temple. We drove our way to Kek Lok Si in Air Itam but not for that temple, the temple we're visiting is our 五脏庙 (stomach). Pasar Air Itam is famous for it's laksa stall.

Look at the laksa broth boiling there. Slurp.

Due to the long weekend, there's so many customer patronizing here even though it's already 4.30 p.m. Which also means the laksa here must be real good. I ordered 五果汤 (five fruits soup) to crunch my thirst. While Kah Wheng went to ordered laksa, century eggs and fried popiah for us. Cheryl taught us to dip the fried popiah into the laksa. Not too bad. I can say that the laksa here is authentic from the sight of the bunga kantan and 虾膏 (prawn paste) alone. It also helps that the broth is full of tiny bits of sardine. A must try if you ever come to Penang. Stayed away from the one in Gurney Drive and save the money for this one. But they raised their price to RM 2.70, normally laksa in Penang cost around RM 2.20 to RM 2.50. Still cheaper than Gurney Drive which cost me RM 3.00. You can get the map from KY.

Rating: 4/5

What we ate at Air Itam.

After a wonderful local hawker meal. There's two options that we can take. One, go to Kek Lok Si. Two, go to Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera). We opted for number two for two reasons. One, there's a long traffic going to Kek Lok Si. Two, the new Guan Yin statue is still under construction. How wrong are we because when we got to Penang Hill there's also quite some traffic but not as many as Kek Lok Si. We went to buy the ticket for the tram and found out the next tram available is at 8.30 p.m. That's about 3 hours of waiting. Logically we forgo that option to wait. So, Huai Bin and I just took some pictures and suck it up. The tram come and go in a 15 minutes interval by the way.

The last time I went up the top is 20 plus years ago if I remember correctly. ":)

We sneaked to the exit and took the picture of the tramp tram.

Kah Wheng then drove as back to the hotel so that we can take a shower and a short rest before we go for dinner later at night.

At about 8.30 p.m. Kah Wheng pick us up from the hotel and drove us to a place the usually go for hokkien mee (prawn noodle) and oh chien (oyster ommelette). I forgot to ask the road and the area. So, you'll might have to do a search yourself based on the signage. Anyone knows where is 三条路 888 福建面 (3 roads 888 Hokkien Mee)? lol

Hokkien mee is another famous Penang local delicacy besides laksa. Which from my experience the best tasting one is still found in Penang. You can add extra ingredients like egg, fish ball, pork ribs and roast pork to your hokkien mee here. I ordered one with everything. After I saw Huai Bin's bowl of ice kacang, I ordered one too. Really different from the one we find in Kuala Lumpur. The fish ball here is square in shape and the secret is that one fishball is cut into half, according to Cheryl. She ordered a kind of longan drink called "geng geng" which comes not in a glass but a small glass bottle like what 100 Plus used to be in before it changes to plastic bottle. Hokkien mee here is not too bad but I think it still lack of something which I don't really know what lol.

Rating: 3.75/5

It's time to indulge in alcohol and loud music after dinner. So we're back near Cititel Hotel, just across is the SoHo. We chose a pub called SOI 11, which at first I thought is SOI II. The area here is something like the Jalan Pinang clubbing area or Heritage Row, Jalan Yap Ah Shak, where a few clubs and pubs are in the same area. One of the biggest club here is Slippery Senoritas I think.

We drank 4 buckets of beer with 6 bottles in each bucket. Mostly drank by me and Huai Bin because he kept daring me to bottoms up, which made me puke a few time.

When we're still sober.

At about the third bucket. Huai Bin spotted there's three ladies sitting in another table. He then dare me to go and get to know them. Which, I chicken out at first. Not enough alcohol maybe. After a while, I took the opportunity to take picture for Huai Bin and the girls and get to know them too. LOL. I only got one of their Facebook.

The three girls we met there.

At about 2 a.m. and me and Huai Bin are fully intoxicated, we decided to call it. Kah Wheng dropped us at the entrance of Cititel and went home. I was walking towards the entrance when Huai Bin dragged me to the opposite direction. Even in this kind of state, he still remember that we planned to follow the recommendation on the MAS in-flight magazine "Going Places" to try out Sup Hameed, which is just a stone throw away from our hotel. Just happen that the May issue is about food.

It was drizzling and Huai Bin cannot walk straight, so I have to help him a bit. We already know what to order before we came here. It's not from the recommendation in "Going Places". We passed by the stall before so we know what they serve. We're going to order...

Guess what?

Huai Bin helped took this picture.

Still no clue?? I'll show you the uncut version of it.

Yes. We ordered SUP TORPEDO. For those uninformed, Sup Torpedo is also known as Bull Penis Soup. ^-^

Huai Bin requested the torpedo not to be cut into small pieces, so the boss give us one big bowl to share. It cost us RM 15. The texture is a bit like beef tendon only softer and more chewy. The soup is where the taste is because the torpedo tasted bland. I especially like the bread that comes with the soup. Very old school. Contradicting to popular belief, we didn't feel any different after drinking the soup.

Rating: 3.5/5

The dissection. Sorry, I was drunk.

After trying out the special soup. We went back to our room and slept away. Funny thing is that Huai Bin didn't remember a thing from the moment after he took the pictures with the girls we met in SOI 11.

Guess where we went on the third day?

The third and final day. It's my friend's turn to drive us around and to the airport. Good to have friends in Penang. Stay tuned.

Come See Malaysian Dreamgirl Finale at The Curve

I just watched episode 21 and Ming's eliminated T_T. Ah well, at least now she can approved me as her friend in Facebook. Added her in FB since a few weeks ago. Just only found out from her MSN that her English name is Emily. I wondered why she never used that name in Malaysian Dreamgirl 2.

I'll miss your cute hand drawn picture shoes, Ming. So, my RM 5 vote didn't help much eh. Now, I am wondering whether the RM 75k voting package myth for Juanita is true or not. lol.

I bet you'll be missing Pinky and Dawn. Don't worry because I know you'll be joining them again for one last show in the Malaysian Dreamgirl Grand Finale in the Curve.

If you want to see the 12 finalist performing on stage and catwalk. Come to the Curve on 15th of May (Friday) 7 p.m. onwards to see it yourself. Better yet, get exclusive invites and you'll get to be near the stage and see it closer. There's a few way you can get invited. The methods are listed here. I am a blogger so, if I need to, I'll choose Blog 2 Finale. Oops, due date is 11th of May for the contest. 1 more day only. Fast, fast, go blog.

Now that we have the top 3, so come to see for yourself is it Juanita or Pinky or Dawn will be crowned the new Malaysian Dreamgirl. Juanita seems to have the highest chances of getting the first place. Even Ming herself told me that she think that it's most probably will be Juanita to win.

But not to forget, Pinky too is always at the top and rarely at the bottom 3 except for the time she told her boyfriend Ah Fai that she wants to go home. After she found out that she's really wanted to continued in MDG, she's never been at the bottom. Will we see a late surprises that day?

Or a underdog like Dawn will strike in the finale and come out the top? Why not? Dawn as the quality of a model. She has a waif figure that is very suitable for catwalk and clothes.

If you don't want to be the last to know the results. Then make your way to the Curve on 15th May from 7 p.m. onwards. Even if you can't get the passes, you can still go because it's open for the public just that you won't be next to the stage. Sorry, I've already given the passes that I have so you have to try to win it.

Long Weekend Penang Trip - Day 1

Last Friday, which is Labour Day and a long weekend. Huai Bin and I planned a trip to visit Penang. Penang Island to be exact because we didn't go over to the mainland. We got only 3 days 2 nights, even Penang Island itself there's not enough time for us to cover all of the attraction there. Of course, when it comes to Penang, there's the great food there. I go makan in Penang! Kekeke. Instead of taking the bus or driving there, we chose to fly with MAS. It will really safe the time from the traffic congestion in the highway because it's the long weekend. It's really cool that MAS now has a Balik Kampung stimulus package that offers value airfare during time like this.

We met up in KL Sentral 2 hours before our flight so that we can check-in our baggage there. MAS is one of the few airlines that offer this service in KL Sentral. Before checking-in, we have to buy the tickets for KLIA Express first. One way cost RM 35 for adult. It only takes 28 minutes to reach KLIA. Save time and save money for petrol and toll.

Huai Bin look fresh even though he only had two hours of sleep.

The sun is rising on the way to KLIA.

We arrived in KLIA at about 7.45 a.m. Our flight is at 9.15 a.m. Boarding time is about 8.30 a.m. So, we still have some time to kill.

Prohibited items to bring on the plane. For domestic flight only the upper part is prohibited. Which means I can bring my lip balm, and mineral water in my hand carry.

Our plane has arrived.

Flying with MAS is a real gem because there's no extra pay for baggage not exceeding 20 kg.

Ample leg room even in the Economy seats.

Free salted peanuts.

Free drink. Mine is a pink guava juice.

Huai Bin picked the seats near the window so that he can take picture. No extra charges to pick the seat when checking-in and we don't have to sit separately just because we didn't pay extra to pick our seat like what you'll encounter from a low cost carrier.

It only takes 40 minutes to reach Penang International Airport from Kuala Lumpur International Airport versus 5 hours from Kuala Lumpur to Penang by car or bus (taken into consideration the time lost in traffic congestion due to long weekend crowd)

Welcome to Penang Island.

We took an airport taxi to our hotel. Cititel Hotel in Jalan Penang, George Town. It cost us RM 38, we bought the voucher from the counter in the airport. It takes about 20 minutes to reach Cititel. As it is a long weekend, Huai Bin was only able to book a room with one King Size bed instead of two Twin Size bed. No problem there. As long as there's a room to stay. Kekeke.

We can view the sea from our room.

After putting down our stuff, it's time to go out and search for lunch. So, we make our way to one of the best known place for Char Kueh Tiow in Penang. Lorong Selamat, Jalan McCalister. At first we wanted to take the Rapid Penang CAT Free Shuttle Bus to McCalister Road but we waited for 15 minutes and didn't see one. So we took the cab which cost us RM 15, and then we saw the Rapid Penang CAT bus came to station 7, which is just outside Cititel Penang. Sigh. RM 15 is an outrageos price because on the 3rd day we took a cab back to our hotel from Lorong Selamat, which cost us only RM 8. Even though RM 8 is not cheap for such a short distance but still it's better than RM 15. Oh, the taxi in Penang doesn't use the meter even when there's meter installed in the car. So be sure to haggle the price first before going in.

Once we reached Lorong Selamat, I immediately recognize the char kueh tiow stall just outside the famous ice-kacang restaurant that KY blogged about before. Huai Bin and I then placed our order and were told that we have to wait 1 hour @_@. We decided to go explore the area while waiting for our char kueh tiow.

Just opposite the ice-kacang restaurant, I saw a very familiar logo of a bell. I know that the shop opposite will be selling the famous nutmeg produce (buah pala). There's so many other products being sold here too like the Tambun biscuit. I bought two nutmeg medical cream while Huai Bin bought two packets of nutmeg to eat.

Since, I know that Lorong Seratus Tahun is also some where along McCalister Road, so I asked the staff there where is it. He don't quite know the exact location but he asked his friend and got us the location. He also gave us two Penang tourist brochure that have map.

After getting the direction, we made our way to cross the road , which we passed by the aunty char kueh teow of Lorong Selamat. There's two char kueh teow in Lorong Selamat and both has a lot of customer too. While walking our way to Lorong Seratus Tahun, which is famous for the curry mee, we bumped into Dr. Sun Yat-Sen.

Okay. Not exactly the great man himself but his Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Centre Penang. Too bad, it doesn't open on public holiday so we didn't get a chance to visit. Lucky the gate is open and we got to take pictures with the statue outside the mansion.

For the country.

After asking the local there for more directions to Lorong Seratus Tahun and being chased by dogs, we finally made it to Lorong Seratus Tahun. But alas, we were too late because it's almost 2.30 p.m. and the curry mee already closed T_T We'll be back.

Walking around in the heat can really work out one's appetite. Lucky when we were back at the char kueh teow stall, our food is ready. We were asked to sit at the restaurant opposite because the ice-kacang restaurant is packed. I ordered teh C bing (iced tea with milk and sugar), some kopitiam in Penang uses brown sugar in teh C bing just like Sarawak. Only thing is that they don't know how to make it into different layer.

1 hour wait is really worth it, each plate will get three big scrumptious prawn. Of course there's the Chinese sausage, egg, beansprout and 'gau choy'. It's not too salty and the chilli is very rounded with the flat noodle. Most importantly a bit of pork lard were use to uplift the aroma. The wok hei is there too. The best is the prawn is so freaking springy, once I bite into it, it's like dancing in my mouth. So fresh. I won't mind paying RM 6 for this.

Rating: 4.5/5

After having lunch, we decided to walk down to Komtar. Yes, we walked. We walk a lot on the first day. LOL.

A random clinic that I saw on the way.

It's actually not that far walking from Lorong Selamat to Komtar. It took us about 15 minutes. Huai Bin wanted to go up the observation deck in the 60th floor in Komtar. So, we made our way up.

It bloody cost us RM 15 each just to going to the observation deck. We get a bottle of small drinking water though. It's very empty in the observation deck. I guessed not many people like to take photos from here. The windows in the deck is quite dirty and thus making it quite difficult to take the pictures. A good thing here is that you were able to view Penang Island from a 360 degrees view.

Some of the picture I took of Penang Island while up there.

We then walked along Jalan Penang back to our hotel from Komtar after we were done taking pictures. On the way, we saw a crowd nearby a cendol stall. Immediately it triggered us to go and buy two bowl of cendol. It seems that we have found the famous Jalan Penang cendol stall. Funny thing is that there's another stall just opposite with no customer at all.

The customers waiting to place their order.

Service is quite fast and efficient. Our order is served in a matter of seconds. Even Phua Chu Kang came here for the cendol, don't pray-pray ah.

Having a bowl of cooling cendol is really refreshing. The cendol texture here is really different from the one I normally eat. It's firmer and not slumpy at all. Very rich with pandan flavour too. They also put red bean. Nice. This stall is at Leboh Keng Kwee, Jalan Penang. You won't miss it because there's always a crowd here queueing for a bowl of cendol.

Rating: 4/5

After downing the cendol, we continued our way back to our hotel. We freshen up and took a bit of rest.

Me all freshen up and ready for a nap.

After a short nap. It's time for dinner. So, Huai Bin and I decided to walk to Gurney Drive for food. You read that right. We walked again. This time we underestimated the distance to Gurney's Drive from Cititel Hotel. It's like going from South to North. It took us like 45 minutes to reach there. It's a blessing in disguise though because the traffic there is so congested.

We passed by this beautiful Mansion 32 on the way. It is now converted into a fine dining restaurant.

We were so bloody hungry when we reached Gurney Drive Hawker Centre after all the walking.

Look at the crowd. My bet is half of the crowd is from KL. LOL.

After we found a table, we started our food frenzy. We ordered laksa (assam laksa for us KL people), char kueh teow with duck egg, muachi (glutinous rice) which is quite famous and sold out very early, look out for the newspaper cuttings in front of the stall because there's a few muachi stalls there, sotong bakar (grilled sotong) that comes with a special chili sauce, pork satay, fried chicken skin and buttock, and fruit rojak with sotong. I personally recommend the muachi, pork satay, sotong bakar and fruit rojak. There's much better char kueh teow and laksa else where in Penang.

After downing our food with a can of ice cold beer, we made our way to the sea side. We were attracted by a crowd surrounding some people. We go check it out and found out that it is actually two street performer performing fire dance and stunt. I contributed RM 2 to their collection of money because they are really good. Huai Bin took videos of them performing here.

Nice.

My most favourite shot.

Call them if you want them to perform in your house party.

Took a picture of the sea at night.

After the show ended, we decided to call it a day and walked to the front of Gurney Plaza and took the taxi home. We don't mind paying RM 15 for the ride because we were dead tire to walk back to the hotel.

Huai Bin and I at Gurney Drive

Next day will be historic places and more good food. No more walking or taking the taxi because one of SixthSeal.com's long time reader Cheryl is coming to show us around. Stay tuned.

Rudy doing the Flag

All I can do is this ...

Rudy told me that he's been going to the gym nowadays. I guess I have to work my muscle out too.

Lola told us that Viva Vertical will be conducting classes for kids too. So, don't think pole dancing is erotic or something. It is actually a sport and a lot of muscle and training is needed to be good at it.

He's Just Not That Into You - BMM3

I missed the first and second Bloggers Movie Meets but I made it to the third one this time. Even though it means that I won't be having enough sleep because I'll be working night shift on that day itself and I have to wake up at 11 am.

Made my way to the meeting point, McD's in Cineleisure. Jeffro was already there.

Aaron was so nice to bring half a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts that he got from the pre-launching. I had half a ring. Not bad, the texture is firmer than J. Co and Big Apple. The first outlet opened on 27th April 2009 in Berjaya Times Square. I wonder who got the 1 year supply of Krispy Kreme. I'm not much of a doughnut fan, so I will wait for the heat to cool down before buying different flavour to try.

How long is 33 movie tickets stick together?

Well, the answer is that it's longer than Pam's height.

Nigel brought some Roxy and Quiksilver calendars and give it to the bloggers that came that day.

Jamie with her Roxy calendar.

The movie is not bad and it's quite funny too with a few cheesy line. It's good to watch but not good enough for to watch it more than once. Near the end of the movie, us bloggers got a pleasant surprise because when before the ending credits, the screen suddenly showed pictures of a couple that we don't know. Then, candles were being light up and there's three guys went to the front with guitar and started to sing. Only than it got me that there's someone in the audience wanted to propose to his girl friend. He chose a good time to do this because there're 33 bloggers in there and some with DSLR. With such a scene happening right before our eyes, of course the bloggers will shoot picture and video like nobody's business. There were like 6 or 7 DSLR surrounding the couple and shooting away.

Friends of the couple singing love song to build the mood.

Jack was able to captured this memorable scene in video.

I thought things like this only happens in movie or TV. Never thought that I will encountered it in real life. After the proposal, us the audiences cheered and clapped for the groom and bride to be. Then we took a group photo and adjourned to Laundry for a drink.

Even when we were sitting down having a drink, bloggers will be bloggers. Cameras out and shooting begin again.

Pam and TimTam

Pam got some scratches on her hand. Go to her blog if you want to find out more of the story behind the scratches.

Just Do It!

I left earlier because I still have to work at night. Well, it's fun to have a gathering with fellow bloggers and added the extra drama with the marriage proposal inside the cinema.

Here's the link to the bloggers that were there that day.
