New Zealand Natural Ice-cream Cooking Workshop

Simon Seow: It's the 2nd day of CNY. How many ang pow you got already?

I got a call from Jen and she inviting me to go to a cooking workshop in Cooking House, which is to use New Zealand Natural ice-cream to make dessert. I, of course happily accepted the invitation.

I didn't quite know the exact location of the venue. Luckily I knew that WMW is going to the workshop too. I called her, and she handed the phone to Teckiee. Thanks to them leading me, I finally able to reach Cooking House. We bumped into David and Jen at the entrance.

Teckiee and WMW already started to take pictures once we reached there.

The ingredients that we'll be using.

My favourite ice-cream. Favourite flavour is Rum & Raisin.

Chef Lee will he the one guiding us.

What's in store for us.

Chef Lee demonstrated to us how to make the base for the ice-cream dessert, which is the chocolate sponge cake and butterscotch cookie. We were then split into 5 groups of 5. FBB, WMW, Teckiee, Precious Pea, BabeKL and I in one group. Having a master baker in our team is a real advantage because he actually delegate works to us, and we work kind of fast. I get to separate the egg yolk and egg white. It wasn't too difficult at all. Our chocolate sponge cake didn't taste quite right because of some flavouring mishap but our butterscotch cookies is one of the best tasting.

Cream made from egg white and sugar. It should stick to the bowl even when the bowl is put upside down. Made by FBB of course.

Look nice but taste er...

Shape weird but taste nice.

After all the baking was done. Chef Lee proceed to show us how to make use of the base to make the dessert from New Zealand Natural ice-cream.

Making Mango Heaven using NZN Mango Sorbet and NZN Mango ice-cream.

They actually pre-made some of the dessert so it's time to taste it all.

Mango Heaven

Mango lover will love this, it's not too sweet nor too creamy. Slurp.

Walnut Butterscotch Surprice

That's the surprice in the middle.

Black Forest cake made from the chocolate sponge cake and NZN BoysenBerry Dream.

Tiramisu, made using NZN Caffé Espresso.

I have never eaten so many New Zealand Natural ice-cream at one go and in such an intresting way too.

Teckiee wanted to be NZN's ambassador.

Joshua, Yat and Serene were there too but they were in another group.

One will not get bore with New Zealand Natural ice-cream because they always come out with new flavour. I have yet to try the Durian Flo which is made of real D24 durian mixed with vanila ice-cream. Heard from FBB the taste is awesome. I will use the voucher given by NZN to taste it and of course my all time favourite, Rum and Raisin. Thanks New Zealand Natural.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Launch

Simon Says: Today is CNY's Eve. Wish all of you a great reunion dinner and a Happy Chinese New Year. I'll be in Klang Valley because I was born, bred and live in KL.

This is quite a late post, there's been too much activities that I need to blog about but got hold up by other posts. Two weeks ago I went down to Pavilion KL for the launching of the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It comes with 3.2 MegaPixel camera, 3.5G, wifi, bluetooth, and most attracting of all, touch screen feature. The screen is in HD size too. One of my colleague already bought it even before it this launching. Current RRP is at RM 1,499. I think with the spec and feature, this price is really worth it.

Nokia invited a group of percussion performer named StrikeForce all the way from Singapore to perform in the launch. I shot a video of them performing 'wet percusion', hitting drums with water flowing out on top but I was having problem uploading it to Youtube.

Besides StikeForce, there's also a group of hip hop dancers to get the groove and mood up.

Of course the artists of Nokia IAC were there to perform too.

Those Two

There were some bloggers that I know were there too.

Nigel, David & Aaron.

Almost the end of all the performance, I went around the backstage and StrikeForce were packing their stuff. I manage to took a picture of their customized "water drums".

I later adjourned to La Bodega where another group of bloggers were having dinner and drinks, courtesy of Nokia of course. I'll save that for another post.

Who doesn't <3 Nokia?

KFC Zinger Tower

Honestly speaking, I'm not a fan of fast food. There's only a few fast food that I like and will never get bored of ordering when ever I patron a fast food restaurant. When I go to KFC for a quick meal, the food that I always order is the KFC Zinger burger. Just can't quite get it that restaurant to specialized in chicken can make such delicious burger.

I was in 1 Utama walking about when I saw this. As if a Zinger is not enough, now they have Zinger Tower. Since, I am a Zinger's fan, something like this I of course won't miss. In, I go and order myself a KFC Zinger Tower.

Already decorated for Chinese New Year.

I ordered an ala carte KFC Zinger Tower (RM 6.60 excluding tax) because I don't quite fancy carbonated drinks. There's also a Zinger Tower combo (RM 15.90 excluding tax) which consists of 1 zinger tower, 1 regular pepsi max, 1 mango pudding, and 1 zinger time watch.

Nice packing.

The difference between KFC Zinger Tower and the normal Zinger is that there's an additional hash brown added to it. While it is not as tall as shown in the board outside the KFC outlet. The size is bigger than normal Zinger.

KFC Zinger Tower

Biting into the KFC Zinger Tower took me quite an effort because I don't really have a big mouth (no pun intended). The Zinger fillet gave a dash of spiciness like the KFC Hot & Spicy chicken. The hash brown combining with the cheese, Zinger fillet and the chili lime sauce seems weird but tasted delicious nevertheless. One thing is that adding the hash brown to it makes the whole burger very fulfilling. I like the chili lime sauce very much, wish I can have more of it.

See me devouring the KFC Zinger Tower in the video below:

I like more of the delicious chili lime sauce.

RM 6.60 ++ for a KFC Zinger Tower is very affordable and very fulfilling. One of this baby can last me until the next meal. Ah, another good Zinger series from KFC. Will surely order it again if I drop by KFC the next time.

Rating: 3.75/5

If I had an ABSOLUTE EXTREME life

If I had an ABSOLUTE EXTREME life then I won't be getting my kicks from eating chili pan mee in Kin Kin, instead I'll be eating insects in Bangkok. Ah, well, even though I don't have enough dough to fly to Bangkok. I can always come to Kin Kin for some kick. Behold, the ABSOLUTE EXTREME spicy chili pan mee.

Three big spoon of the really spicy dried chili flakes will really get some kick in me.

The stuffiness in the restaurant due to the ever full tables added the extra perspiring factor.

The crowd.

The white pan mee turn to red hot pan mee after mixing up the dried chili flakes. Bon appetit.

I found out that the three big spoon still doesn't give me any extreme kick. Never mind, add one extra spoon of dried chili flakes.

This is what I call extreme.

Oh my god. I think I've over done it. My lips are now like burning sausages. Instant Angelina Jolie's lips without the need of a plastic surgery.

Sweat started to comes off me like water falls.

Then my lunch date started to complain. "Ew... what's that smell, Simon ?" "Oh oh, it must be the sweat that's upgraded my BO to version 3.0", I thought to myself.

It is time to take out my secret weapon. The Rexona Men Absolute Protection deodorant roll-on, which fits nicely in my pocket.

Applied it on both of my arm pits. Ah, refreshing. No more BO, no more sweat.

And Zoe Yve is not complaining anymore.

The texture of the pan mee here seems not as springy as the one in Super Kitchen. Nevertheless the taste is not bad at all and the dried chili flakes does not has the burnt taste as in Super Kitchen. Standard size RM 5.50 per bowl (Rexona Men Absolute Protection deodorant not included). The service here is still as bad as ever and the boss is so arrogant. I still prefer Super Kitchen, I come here for the free sauna only.

Simon Says: MDG2 Beautilicious Contest

Simon Says: It's been a while that I didn't patron COCA for the steamboat and the yummy pineapple fried rice. Hope that I can win the COCA GONG XI Giveaway and go there to taste it again.

For those of you that think that I am getting paid for being the official blogger for Malaysian Dreamgirl 2, you're wrong. The official bloggers don't get pay but instead we will be invited to the auditions, the shooting, the Dream House maybe, and etc. It's an experience money can't buy. On top of that we will so be given goodies worth RM 500. I was given part of the goodies when I went for the auditions in KLCC Impiana Hotel & Spa.

So, here's what's in the goodies bag I got from the auditions.

1. InTrend Magazine January 2009, the Official Magazine of MDG2. The winner will get a spread on the magazine.

2. RM 50 Marie France Bodyline Product voucher, RM 50 Svenson Hair Care voucher and RM 50 Bella Skin Care voucher.

The vouchers will be quite useful for me, I'm obese, so Marie France might be able to help me, I'm starting to show baldness at the forehead, so a treatment in Svenson might help slow the process, and some of you knows that I go for facial treatment so the Bella Skin care will be useful too. The problem is for RM 50 in these 3 center won't really get me anywhere near the result I wanted so I'll have to top up hundreds or maybe even thousands of ringgit. So, I'll just scrap the plan on using these vouchers.

3. Escada Incredible Me perfume. Ah, something that I can use or maybe not. The smell is very nice not too heavy. I heard that this is a fragrance for female. I don't really have problem about this because I used to use my sister's perfume when I was younger. Nah, I'll just give it to my cousin sister as her birthday present. Her birthday is on January. Save money kekeke.

4. Wella Professionals - BioTouch balanced anti grease shampoo. This is something that I really can use. I have very oily hair. Even working for 12 hours in an air-conditioned room, my hair will still get very greasy. This shampoo really comes in handy. This came to me in the right time because the Wella Professionals - BioTouch balanced anti dandruft shampoo that I got from Ringo is almost empty.

Yes. I need to regulate my greasy scalp.

5. The last but not least goodies are Beautilicious liquid lipstick, instan eyeshadow and eye shadow refill. Since I don't do part-time as a drag queen, these 3 cosmetics is of no use to me. So, this is what I will do.

These Beautilicious cosmetics will be given to the one that can answer this question, "Which shorlisted contestant in the MDG2 Auditions KL leg said that Andrew Tan (CEO of AndrewsModels) is very good looking?" and complete this sentence in less than 20 words, "I love Beautilicious cosmetics product because...". The one with the correct answer and the best sentence will win the products shown below. The answer can be found here.

Email your answer and and the completed sentence to yyseow[at]gmail.com with the subject "Simon Says: Beautilicious Contest".

Contest closed on 26/1/2009.

Alliance Credit Card That's You:niquely Yours

If you all have read my post on the Alliance Bank event that I went to, you'll have know that Alliance Bank has come out with a You:unique credit cards that allows you to put your face or any picture of your choice and be printed on the credit card. The picture is subject to approval because no obscene picture is allowed.

As I've mentioned in my post in the event, You:nique is not only about your face on the card. It also allow people like you and me to choose the from three choices of card features, which is Great Rebates, Great Rates or Great Rewards.

Imagine, now if I have two other identical triplet brothers. Eldest brother name is Daimon, the middle, Chumon, and the youngest is Simon, that's me. Our face is somewhat identical, so the picture on the card that we upload looks the same.

Daimon Seow

Chumon Seow

Simon Seow

Even though the design may look the same for me and my two identical brothers but each of us has different personality.

Daimon is very careful in spending when it comes to credit card, he always clear his credit card bill on time. He also like to see hard cash rebate. So, he opted for Great Rebates which allow him to get monthly cash rebates up to 2% on all retail purchases, without any restrictions to petrol, groceries or specific merchants. Daimon spend about RM 250 for petrol every month, and RM 300 for groceries. At 2 % cash rebates, he'll be getting back about RM 11 every month and RM 132 for a month. It might not be much but hey it's something for nothing. He's getting some extra cash just by spending what he must spend on regularly.

As for Chumon, he's a the type that like to stretch his cash to the max to create more cashflow for his business, so he sometimes only pay the minimum. He don't mind paying finance charges. So, he opted for Great Rates, offering a flat finance charge at 9% p.a. which is drastically lower than the current market rate of 18% p.a. Now, Chumon is getting 50% discount from the normal finance charge on credit card by other bank institution. With the extra charges saved, he can use it as a cashflow for his business. Now this offer is very suitable for businessman like Chumon.

Well, as for me, I always like to get as much reward points as I can to exchange for the item that a credit card has to offer. So, the Great Rewards is definitely my choice, which will get all my local and overseas retail purchases except petrol and government agencies will entitle me to 2X rewards throughout the tenure of the card, not just during promotional periods. Now, I can get to exchange items from the catalog in half the time as it normally would take me to do so. So, it means either in a year I can exchange more items in or I'll go for the higher end item in a shorter time than other card programme that I am currently using. This is for as long as I am using You:nique, which unlike some other that only for a certain time frame. Unless, I change it to Great Rebates or Great Rates but I'll stick with this for awhile.

So, even though Daimon, Chumon and I are triplet and look alike and our You:nique credit card also has almost the same look, our card features are very different from each other.

From the example I've given, we can see that You:nique is for the current moment the one and only credit card that give you such flexibility in customizing the look and features. Oh, if you don't want the hassle to upload your picture, you can choose the card design from the photo library available when you start Step1: Design. Please be note that there's a minimum dimension of 1020 x 660 and only in JPEG format for uploading picture.

Upload your own photo or choose from the photo library.

After that, it's time to preview your design on a credit card in Step 2: Preview.

When you're satisfied, and you've read all the terms and conditions. Then check on the check box and confirm your design by clicking on the CONFIRM DESIGN button. Then, this will be the last step, Step 3 : About You. This is where you fill in the necessary details. You'll be contacted to let you know that your design has been accepted.

Just three simple steps to get your own customized Alliance Bank You:nique credit card. Do it before 31st of March and enjoy waiver of RM 38 joining fee and 3 years of annual fees!

*Disclaimer: The information here is only to let the public knows that there's this customizable credit card in town. Please make sure you read clearly all the terms & condition on the Alliance Bank You:nique website before you make any decision.

Intan aka MalaysianSuperMummy, Andrew, Satkuru and I were invited to the Malaysian Dreamgirl Season 2 audition which is held in KLCC Impiana Hotel & Spa last Saturday. As one of the official blogger of MDG2, I was allowed to be in the auditioning room when the audition is running. Click here for my full report on the audition.

As for this post, I'll post up the people I met during the audition there. The first one to greet me is Dennis, one of the crew member of MDG2. He's very friendly.

The very friendly Dennis.

This is the backdrop in the auditioning room, where the girl auditioning will stand in front of.

HP an Intel is the main sponsor this time around. The winner of MDG2 will drive away a Chevrolet Aveo Lux 1.4(A), RM 10,000 cash, HP Pavilion Notebook, RM 1,000 worth of products from Beautilicious cosmetics, RM 1,000 of Escada fragrance, RM 1,000 of Wacoal lingerie, RM 1,000 of Marie France Bodyline vouchers, RM 1,000 of Bella Skin Care vouchers, RM 1,000 of Svenson Hair Care vouchers, a spread in InTrend Magazine, exclusive AndrewsModels portfolio, and RM 500 of Wella Professional hair products. Nice!

Julie Wong (CEO of Beautilicious), Elaine Daly, and Andrew Tan (CEO of AndrewsModels) are the judges for the audition in Kuala Lumpur.

Jerad (CEO of Capxion Media) was seen briefing the judges for the audition this round. At this time, there's already more than 30 hopefuls waiting in the waiting room.

Kenny Sia happens to be in town for the Youth 09 event, and he dropped by the audition around noon. He's one of the online judges. We then had lunch. Buffet style. Slurp.

Nice lunch, the food here is not bad at all.

After lunch, a bunch of bloggers dropped by too for a visit. Diese happens to come back from Penang to her parents' house in Bangi. She's the official MDG2 blogger from the Northern Region.

Diese, me and Dennis. DSD?

Tock Tock brought Zoe Yve here to meet Kenny. LOL. No lah, just kidding. Zoe Yve forced her friend to go for the audition because she's not old enough yet to register for the audition. So, Tock Tock drove her and her friend here.

Kenny looking for a new job from JobStreet.com.

Tock Tock bumped into an old nemesis.

Claudia, the infamous ShitZoe and me.

Aaron and Joshua also came by. We're a noisy bunch in the reception area. I think that's usually what you get when a group of blogger get together.

Surprise of the day. Fiqa came to look see look see too. It's been quite a while. She's very busy nowadays. We do lunch ya when you are free, Fiqa.

The other online judge for MDG2 came all the way here after her speech in Youth 09. Joyce aka KinkyBlueFairy, this is the first time I see her after she shaved her hair for charity. Her hair worth RM 20,000 yo!

Lovely Joyce, me and Julie.

That's all for now. Want to see the girls that came for the audition? Click here mate.

My Pet Dog, Ah Boy

Sorry for the short hiatus. I've been very busy. I was at the Lauching of Nokia XpressMusic 5800 at KL Pavilion.

Then the next day I went to Malaysian Dreamgirl Season 2 KL Audition, not to participate but there as one of the official blogger to cover the audition in KL. Intan, Andrew and Satkuru were the other four official bloggers that's covering the audition too. Will blog about the the two event soon.

The judges for KL leg are Julie Wong (CEO of Beautilicious), Elaine Daly and Andrew Tan (CEO of AndrewsModels)

Besides that I joined WMW, CityGal and Jason on a small scale food crawl in Kepong. My teritory, and I didn't even know that there's such place that sells very yummy duck satay.

Duck satay

Back to the topic.

Last week my cousin brought home a wandering dog from my aunt's coffee shop. One of her customer found him wandering on the road and brought him to the coffee shop. We called him Ah Boy. I don't really know what breed is him. Might be a crossed bred.

Ah Boy is quite obedient, maybe because he's not a puppy anymore. He's a very picky eater though, rarely touches the dog biscuit we feed him. Hence he's quite thin for his age.

Ah Boy doing the stretch.

He like to show my his teary eyes when I am eating.

"Give me food. Human food."

Ah Boy licking his er...

Shaking his tail happily. No, I'm not giving you food.

Okay this is a short update and also a teaser on my up coming posts. Stay tuned.

Roast Duck at Weng Kee Restaurant

Simon Says: Girls, are you prepared for this coming Saturday MDG2 Audition in Impiana KLCC Hotel & Spa. I was invited to be there. See you all there this Sat. ;)

The Rise of the Lycans starts Jan 09 << Does Vampire eat roast duck?

Warning: Tidak Ditanggung Halal

It was another lazy Sunday afternoon and I am working morning shift. As always me and my colleagues will drive out for lunch on Sunday morning shift. My colleague Fam is driving and we still haven't decided where to eat. I'm not really sure how he end up driving to Section 17, PJ.

Then one of my other colleague Felice suggested to have roast duck, and since there's not much time, so I suggested Weng Kee Restaurant that specialized in roast duck. There we go to have roast duck for lunch.

Weng Kee doesn't hang the roast ducks like other roast duck eateries do and the stall is located deep inside the restaurant. If you don't go in and see the plate of roast duck on the table that other customer is having, you won't know that they are selling roast duck.

Char siew and siew cheong.

Besides roast duck, Weng Kee also got char siew (BBQ Pork) and siew cheong (Chinese sausage). The char siew here is roast until quite dry and dark yet when I chew it is very tender and full of the sweet taste of caramel, sweeter than the one I had in Famous Seremban. I still say that char siew in Famous Seremban is the best I've eaten yet. The siew cheong is not bad at all with the right proportion of lard and liver.

Rating: 3.5/5

Roast duck.

We were quite disappointed with the roast duck. The skin is not crispy at all. Lucky the taste is not bad and the meat is quite juicy. Nothing to wow about, any roast duck stall in Kepong sells much better roast duck than here. Maybe next time we should go to Sunrise Roast Duck at Seapark to try the roast duck rice there.

Rating: 2.5/5

Sauce for the roast duck.

You might want to give the duck a miss if you happen to come here. I won't might coming back for the siew cheong though.

My plate of white rice with the dishes. The green vege comes by default I think.

Down our lunch with a glass or iced herbal tea. Not much choices of beverage here.

2008 New Year's Eve in 1 Utama

In my previous post, I wrote that I might be celebrating New Year Countdown alone in 1 Utama. Well, that's half true actually. I had dinner alone in Dave's Pizza & Vino, it's the last day to try out the Guinness Infused Meal promotion. Will post about it later.

After working from 8pm 30th Dec 2008 till 8am 31st Dec 2008, I went home and slept until 5 pm. Then I drove to 1 Utama to do some banking in HSBC Amanah and dropped by to visit 988 DJs that is doing live broadcasting in Studio V that Cindy blogged about here and here.

They're On Air.

DJ Sam happened to be there too to prepare to be the MC for the countdown party later that night in 1 Utama. I of course, took a picture with her. She's one of the DJ for 988 Hello Morning show, which starts from 6 am to 10 am every Mon to Fri.

DJ Sam of 988

Then DJ Luke took a commercial break from his On Air show K6 Clan. When he's going back to the studio, I manage to ask him for a picture. He's very friendly in person.

With DJ Luke

He later invited me to sit inside the studio while he's interviewing Master Kenny Hoo of Good Feng Shui Geomantic Research. Master Kenny is giving his bazi readings on the birth date sent in by the listener earlier.

DJ Luke also briefly interview me On Air, asking me my name and my new year resolution. LOL. My 15 seconds of fame on local Chinese radio.

Master Kenny, me, and DJ Luke.

Then it's almost time for DJ Anson to take over the time slot. I managed to get him to sign on the 988 2009 CNY album. He's one of the DJ for Hello Morning too.

DJ Anson

Also asked DJ Morna to sign on the CD and of course took a picture with her. She host the Weekend Queen show on Saturday.

DJ Morna

The Christmas tree decorated by Cindy?

It's a very comfortable place to do broadcast.

There's a countdown party in 1 Utama, and Justin Lo (側田) will be performing. Thanks to Charlie, who is working in Digi, we managed to get a good spot in the Yellow Zone. The party is main sponsor is non other than Digi.

Charlie not working but still wearing his employee tag.

Part of the crowd in front of us.

The DJ from 988, DJ Sam, and DJ Luke were the MC and also a DJ from Red.FM. The DJs from 988 also perform two songs from the CNY album, additional to Sam and Luke were Xin Yi, Morna, Anson, and Nick. I took picture with Xin Yi and Nick before in the Yeah! Award Celebration Dinner.

Most of the picture I took didn't turn out well. Here's one of Casey Tse, even though she's from Hong Kong, her debut album is a full Malaysian production.

Casey Tse (謝文雅)

I took a short clip of her performing her new song Fly from her debut album "I am Casey". One of her ballad "学了好久 AKU CINTA PADAMU" is very nice too.

After Casey's performance, it's time to countdown. The fireworks in 1 Utama is programmed to goes off according to the music that goes with it. The fireworks is so damn near that that I felt like the earth is shaking. It's one of the nicest fireworks I've ever seen. Even Justin (側田) said that.

After the countdown, it's time for Justin to perform. He sang songs like "Stuck On Up", "命硬", "決戰二世祖", "情歌", and 2 new songs from his latest album, "三十日" and "未輸". Due to the audiences encouragement he briefly sang two more song "Kong" and "好人" without music.

Stuck On You

決戰二世祖

DJ Sam ask for encore

After the performance ends I manage to take picture with 988 DJ cum Chief Program Director, DJ Tock Ping (林淑萍), now she only host the "Logon 1001" every Thursday night.

淑萍 jeh, the boss of all the DJs in 988

The traffic is too damn congested to take my car which I parked in 1 Utama. So, Charlie and I walked to his car, which he parked in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail and we went to a nasi kandar restaurant nearby to have supper.

My chapati with daging cincang.

Charlie eating with two forks because the spoons is being washed.

Last but not least. All the best to you all in the Year 2009. Ah, Chinese New Year coming soon. Ang pao, ang pao mari.

Simon Says wishes you all a great year in 2009.
